Blitz the League II for Xbox and PS3

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/886/886976p1.html

I got a chance to play the last one a couple of years ago and I gotta say its one of the most unique football games out there. Actually its probably the antithesis of most "traditional" football games and basically gives a big "f-you" you NFL licensing. The new one looks like the same gameplay and better graphics. I'll get you guys the details as I find em. Tell me what you think.

I thought the first one was borderline unplayable but I'll give this one a shot.

The last two unlicensed football games did TERRIBLE business. Whoever is financially backing this venture is a fool. You're in the business to make money, and I can say, sight unseen, that this game won't. You'd have better chance of financial success by backing the producers of "Speed Racer II".

Business wise is another story, but I thought the idea of Blitz: The League was fantastic, and same with All-Pro 2k8 (which actually played much better than madden, if not as graphically polished). I have to say the same for the upcoming tecmo bowl game - the football game market is big enough that it can support different takes on it. Madden isn't the be-all, end-all on football, despite its popularity.

That said, Blitz has some unique aspects, but it's kinda like the short-lived ESPN TV show Playmakers built as a game - the NFL isn't thrilled with it, but it has an air of truth to it. I'm not sure it will last, but if you get a chance to check it out, it's worth it.

Well the guy who created Playmakers, Peter Egan, made the storyline for both games so I can see where you get that comparison. I think its exactly what they're going for, over-the-top type of gameplay where you'll get to experience stuff you will never ever see in an NFL game. I think they're catering to the crowd that plays GTA4, really taking things out of the box.

Heres the trailer from E3 I found on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrMmq9tW27s

What does that trailer have to do with video game gameplay?

No problem. I just hate it when someone puts out a video game trailer that has absolutely nothing to do with the game you'll be playing. I call it the FF VII syndrome, but of course Killzone 2 elevated it to an artform.

Yeah it looks like the Blitz team went right after him because of his history with Playmakers. Supposedly, the NFL didn't like the kind of material and the direction of Playmakers (I'm surprised they approved of it in the first place) so Blitz picked him right up. If you look at the direction Blitz went after they dropped the NFL license, Peter Egan was the perfect fit for the job.

If you ask me, its one of the smartest moves that the Blitz team did. The crazy storyline is one of the main selling points that drives the franchise now. I'm sure the NFL isn't too happy about it but it sure makes for an interesting storyline and game.

Kotaku: Why should anyone buy Blitz: The League 2 over Madden 09?

Cover Man Lawrence Taylor: That’s a good question. Well, it all depends. If you're use to the missionary position, that’s what you’re going to do. But if you want to sit there and experiment? From the behind, then maybe a little doggystyle and all that stuff, then you’re going to buy Blitz 2. Now you (pointing at me), you might like missionary. That’s something you can control. It’s going to be the same thing every time. But if you want to experience and enjoy it. And get downright dirty with it, then you’re going to get Blitz 2.
I'm sold.

LT is the man, he was great as Quentin Sands in the last one I'm glad hes coming back for this one.

What do you guys think about him referencing Blitz the League to doggy style? It is the antithesis to NFL licensed games, it pretty much does stuff you would actually want to happen in a bizzaro world NFL game.

I liked the concept of the last Blitz, but it needed some serious tweaking to its gameplay. When two minute warning hit, you knew to not let the other team even think about touching you, because it would result in an automatic fumble turned into a touchdown.

The good thing about the new Blitz is that they're going onto the Next Gen systems (PS3 and Xbox360) and they seem pretty serious about this game too. They graphics and system look solid and if by any chance something does go wrong, they can have patches for the game that could be downloaded to fix it right up. Smart move on Blitz's part.

I was thinking, they really pushed this game to the Mature rating's limits. When I think back to all the "juicing" and the kind of injuries you can get I'm surprised the NFL isn't making more noise about this. Well, a lot of the crazy stories are probably true, if not inspired by some true story. Sending hookers to tire the other players out the night before a big game? Totally believable and great storyline for a MA rated game.

The precision aim tackling is really looking good, its pretty gory and intense so get ready before looking at this vid, especially the fact you get to pinpoint where you want to hit and how hard you get to smash them. The internal busting is just the icing on top.

From the other video previews the game looks a lot big improvement over the last too.

Just curious to see if anyone picked this up. I have a desire to play a football game and I am just burned out on 2k5. I have never been a huge madden fan and I missed out on the clearance of NCAA 08 and Madden 08 at Target.
