It's been 9 years since I played Tomb Raider but I fondly remember playing TR2 on my pentium 2-300mhz pc with keyboard.

I tried the demo and the graphics environment was very nice indeed. However, I kept dying. It took me a while to grasp the idea of TR and after some stupid DUH moments I was able to get the idea. After a couple of hours I was close to finishing the demo but you cant save and it was already 1am so I called it a night.

I don't think I'll be picking this game up, a rental for sure but that's just me. I'm used to Call of Duty 4 type games.

Like I said, I just came off TR:Anniversary so I was in the right frame of mind for the demo. The only 'duh moments I had were where ledges or vines that blended in too well with the environment.

I played through the whole demo at lunch. Turns out I was only 10 minutes from the end when I quit last night. You get to solve a lone puzzle in that final few minutes. Nothing too complex. Good stuff. The second time through only took about 30 minutes, since I already knew what to do.

I am curious as to how old the demo build is. I've had a few glitches like getting stuck in some foilage, and at one point today I was balancing on a beam and all my controls were backwards. I pressed forward and Lara walked backwards and vice versa. The camera still sucks ass. Looks to be just as bad as the previous two games.

Thanks for posting your impressions on the demo, Michael Corvin. I'm sorry the manual grab wasn't much help, though. BTW, did that function return in Underworld or has it rightfully been dropped?

I don't think I need to give a reason for the following.

Most of the menu options are blacked out for the demo. I don't think you can change anything, but that's not saying it couldn't be in the full game.

So I decided to give this a rent this weekend and am loving it. Don't pay attention to the review score because it's a great game. Yes there are camera issues, the same problems that have plagued the previous two games. There are occasional glitches as well but nothing earth shattering... until a few minutes ago.

The game autosaves after each chapter/area + you can save anywhere. I have 13 save games and none of them will load now. Two of them are corrupt, but the others give me a "load failed" message.

I'm already halfway through the game, but damn I don't want to start over already. What a P.I.T.A. Just did a quick test on a couple arcade games and those saves appear to be fine so I'm not sure if it is the hard drive or the game. Buyer beware.

My copy arrived yesterday. I was not aware of the bad reviews (I haven't read any for this game) but I certainly love it. I've experienced a few glitches (one made me restart a level because game suddenly became completely unresponsive) but not enough to make me mad at the game.

I am sorry to hear about your glitch, Michael Corvin. I sure hope the same doesn't happen to me.

The only thing that really bothers me is the audio during the cinematics. Were the dialogue is placed seems rather random at times. I'll either hear Lara from all the speakers or from the far side (slightly beleeding into the adjacent surround speaker) if she is but a hair off center. It's rather distracting. I also found that in other instances the dialogue was mixed too low and it made it hard to hear the conversation between Lara and
Spoiler:
Natla
early in the game.

The most common glitch for me is getting stuck on scenery. It happens a LOT. Fortunately firing your gun 'un-sticks' you every time. Other than that I love the game. I think anyone who enjoyed Legend or Anniversary will as well.

I solved my problem. I had to delete EVERY autosave on my machine, leaving just my single personal save. To play it safe I then copied that remaining save to my memory card and am running off that instead of the hard drive now. Fortunately that worked. Had I not kept a 'personal save I would have had to start over.

Now I have multiple 'personal' saves and am not using the auto saves at all. Of course it could have been a fluke but I can't help but advise to utilize the save function instead of relying on the auto save. Couldn't hurt to copy your saves to a MU as well. Also should be noted, all these problems arose when I entered the NXE Party mode with friends who were all doing different things.

I'm really liking the game too. I just completed the first level and thought the puzzles were really good compared to the recent additions. The only thing I don't like about the game is firing the guns...seems so cheesy. It actually seems the exact same as Tomb Raider 1, they never made it any better. I know it's not a shooter, but the 'combat' is horrible. I'm hoping the rest of the game is as good as the first level.

The puzzles in this game are epic. You're in for a great ride. The gunplay does blow but fortunately there aren't too many battles. Unfortunately the second half of the game seems a bit rushed. The level design of the first half is simply amazing in their scope, but by the end they are shorter and easier to figure out.

Since I had to delete all my quick saves achievement hunting has been a bitch. As for my time with the game, I'm done. I might rent it again after both DLC packs are out.

I gotta say, as much as I love the game, the audio mix blows (at least on the PS3). In-game audio is great except for a problem that also extends to the cinematics. The LFE is set 20dB too hot. At first I thought it was that the LFE was not properly filtered, since I have my LPF set to the Audyssey recommended 120Hz setting rather than the THX recommended 80Hz setting. After much careful fiddling around on my Onkyo 705, I realized I needed to reduced the LFE input of PCM multi-channel sources by 20dB so that the bass was punch but not ridiculously boomy (even in quiet moments when I’m just walking in an underground area).

I’ve slowly gotten used to the extreme audio positioning whenever someone is speaking slightly off center but I still feel the channel separation was overdone. However that’s nothing compared to the excess bass.

Too bad this is not a game that needed to be installed into the PS3 cos I’d have assumed it could have been fixed via patch.

How is this compared to Legend on 360? I enjoyed that one a few years back.

TRU sales lead on PlayStation 3: http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=140155

I guess no one was interested in the downloadable content.

Then again, given how the Tomb Raider franchise started on Playstation, it would make sense that the core fanbase would be (mostly) in the PS3 camp.

That thread over there is overrun by Sony fanboys and an unmoderated mess.

Sales couldn't possibly have anything to do with the glut of 360 exclusives over the past three months. In just the past three months we've had Too Human, Infinite Undiscovery, Fable II, Gears of War 2, the Last Remnant, Left 4 Dead. Then you toss in cross platform titles like Rock Band 2, GH:WT, Fallout 3, Force Unleashed & Mirror's Edge. Something's gotta give. 360 owners have not been hurting for quality entertainment. Kinda makes me worry for Prince of Persia.

Just noticed this is just UK sales. We'll see how it pans out when US figures roll in. With nearly a 2:1 install base I imagine it will be closer.

It's not like the last month or so has been shabby for the PS3 either. I've bought more titles in the past month or so than I did the previous 10 months. It probably has more to do with the core base of fans being likely PS3 owners.

Yeah, they are Sony fanboys but, given how negative they are to Tomb Raider (and Crystal Dynamics) in general, I figured it was worth mentioning.

I just wish Eidos would make the downloadable content available to both PC and PS3.

It does seem like an odd title for exclusive DLC. Big AAA titles I can understand, but TR, for all intents and purposes, is still living on it's past glory and needs all the fans on both sides of the console war.

Which is why I thought it was an asanine move by both Eidos and Microsoft. Mainly the latter, I doubt whatever money they paid for the exclusive was worth it even if the game were doing better on the 360. It's practically a niche title.

So Eidos limited the game's exposure and Microsoft wasted their money.

Anyhoo, I finally finished the game. I really enjoyed that final boss "battle". It was frustrating and fun all at the same time.

How the hell did it take me 3 hours to finish the Thai level? Oh, could it be because Lara decided it was cool to get stuck in every fucking wall? Ugh.

I just beat the game for the second time last night. Still a lot of fun but the Treasure Hunt mode is rubbish.

Once the novelty of being able to explore the levels sans enemies wears off, you realize there's little to no challenge since most of the treasures are lying around in breakable jars and the level specific puzzles are already solved. And then the fact that most of what these treasures unlock is pretty pointless (no extra game modes, weapons, costumes, etc. - just artwork) settles in.

Still, if you're a completist, simply start a New Game. The treasures you've collected thus far carry over and it's a lot more interesting than wandering empty rooms with already solved puzzles.

I want to like this game, but it blows. I'm finish it only because I've played every other TR game and I know the story will at least be satisfying.

The controls are a fucking mess and it's almost a crapshoot on where to jump, climb, what to do next. Combat is just plain sucky -- how many bullets can the bad guy take and her kicking is sporadic -- will she really kick the bad guy or pot this time? Nope.

The camera has it's own mind too.

On the plus side, achievements seem easy enough.

I rented this and only finished a few missions or whatever but the controls are fucking terrible...I get stuck lots on lots of things for no reason (like physical objects in the game)...sure you get some nice ass shots and closeup crotch camera angles when that happens, but really underwhelming experience. Don't think I'll bother finishing it.
