I've been trying to decide what to buy Fallout 3 on. I was leaning towards the 360, but I've always played these on PC and I think I might try and see if my laptop can handle it. I know my Desktop can, but it would be nice to play it on my lunch and breaks at work :)

Specifically, if you get it at Best Buy through pre-order, you get a bottle opener. If you order on amazon, you get (with lots of money) a pip-boy alarm clock and other crap. Anyone know of anything else?

nickdawgy 09-28-08 06:38 PM

Fallout and Fallout 2 are on Gametap now. The first game is free to play.

I am grabbing the collectors edition not the survival edition. I don't think a Pip Boy clock is worth the extra $50.

my friend is reviewing this game and let me borrow it so that i can give him my impressions.

Here is my early impression:

there are 5 difficulty levels - veryeasy, easy, normal, hard, veryhard. normal is the default.

The game is very much in the spirit of the first 2 fallout games, except the combat is in realtime and feels just like a fps, but you can pause the game and switch weapons during combat.

The graphics are nice, but is not outstanding. It is not in the same quality level as MassEffect or LostOdyssey.

The game can get gory. I shot the guard in the head and his head splattered off his body.

Lots of customization on your char. Not just stats, but the looks also.

All the chars have voice. There is a bit of weird quirk. When the chars are speaking to each other and you try to speak to one of them, the voices overlap and you cannot understand what they are saying. Not a huge deal. just make sure they are done talking to each other before you talk to them.

Lots of choices in the dialog screen, just like fallout 1/2. You can save just before talking and try out the different options.

That's all i have for now. I only played for 2 hours and just got out of the vault.

Pirates rush to torrent leaked Fallout 3

Fallout 3, Bethesda's eagerly-awaited post-apocalyptic RPG, has been leaked onto file-sharing sites less than 24 hours after going gold. Impatient gamers have rushed to download the ripped Xbox 360 version, with one site claiming that over 800 people are now sharing a complete set of files.
It doesn't stop there. One cocky gamer has even gone so far as to post a live streaming video of their first experiences with the game. Presumably they don't have a problem with advertising the fact that they're breaking the law.
We have contacted Bethesda, but so far they've declined to comment on the situation. While we're sure they're not too happy about the leak, they can at least take heart from the positive response most people seem to be giving the game. Early reactions to Fallout 3 have included, "Sweeeeet!" "Yay!" and "I want to **** this game so hard!"

Your friend is apparently a dirty little pirate! :)

Not the first time that a game has leaked early. Should we be surprised?

I want to fuck this game so hard as well...but I will wait until she is legal...

Here on the metro I've started seeing some great posters for it with a guy in power armor standing in front of the destroyed Capitol building. Great posters, but a little disconcerting given exactly how close we are.

Too soon?

foxdvd 10-11-08 10:42 PM

I am so looking forward to this game, but in the combat videos it does seem that there is a small disconnect between your shots and what is actually happening on screen. I am not expecting COD4 or R6V2 level of tightness in the combat, but I hope it lives up to at least Mass Effect.

Swedish PCGamer gave it a 81% score, with the main gripe being that real time combat is not as good as the VATS.

No, the building itself. ;p I work right outside DC. Wonder how much of the pentagon has survived in-game. (I don't work there either).

Played this for a bit over the weekend, and it actually felt more like a Fallout mod for Oblivion than it did a true sequel to Fallout 2 - which I guess is a good thing for Oblivion fans, but sucks for Fallout fans who hated Oblivion. And yes, the shooting does feel a little off.

Got my new OXM today in the mail and they have a huge 7 page review.

They give it a 10!

Another TRU placeholder will be soon missing from my collection!

fumanstan 10-20-08 06:14 PM

I'm still trying to decide between getting this on PC or 360. Being first person for the most part, I think i'd appreciate it on the PC more. Not to mention I have a beefy enough PC and want to continue supporting that platform.

aktick 10-20-08 06:39 PM

This is another one I got based on hype alone because of the ~$40 price. (Live.com/eBay 30% cashback)

Having never played Fallout 1 or 2, am I going to be missing a bunch of story? Or will it make sense what's going on from the get-go? I really liked Oblivion, so I guess that's a good sign for me.

nickdawgy 10-20-08 09:52 PM

Play the first two, you owe it to yourself.

You might not get the references or easter eggs, but I am sure you'll be fine storywise.

argh923 10-21-08 02:22 PM

Haven't ever played the first two...but got this paid off at Gamestop today with trade-ins. Pretty excited about it.

Are the first 2 just on the PC?

Yes. Both are currently available via GameTap.
