It's up now if you have your pass from Borderlands GOTY package. Else, I'd say the demo probably goes public that week of release. Depressing that it is getting such bad reviews. I hope my experience is different.

Re: Official Duke Nukem Forever Thread of Bad(Classic) Oneliners

The bad reviews after such a long, anticipated wait seem very familiar to another disappointment I vividly remember. (I'm looking at you Phantom Menace.) But I'm not the kind of guy who only likes current games and hates everything that is older than 6 months. So I'm thinking if I can just accept it's a 10-year-old game that took me over a decade to get around to playing, it will help my enjoyment factor.

It sounds like the gameplay is not old-school enough for people that nostalgically remember Duke 3D, and it's not modern enough for people who don't. Which points to why you shouldn't spend over 12 years developing a game.

Re: Official Duke Nukem Forever Thread of Bad(Classic) Oneliners

Eh, I wouldn't compare those. I think many people gave up on DNF a while ago and didn't have great expectations. It wasn't like Episode 1 where people genuinely wanted to see another Star Wars movie and couldn't wait for it. I think most of the interest in DNF is just curiosity to see how the game would finally turn out (and if it would actually come out).

I'd compare DNF more to Chinese Democracy, for which I believe people's eventual hopes weren't that high either. And actually, the review for CD on All Music suggested listening to it as if it was 1998, not 2008.

Still looking forward to it. Then again, I liked Matt Hazard, so what do I know?

I would never liken this release to a Gearbox original. They just cleaned it up and got it ready for release. They didn't design it.

Seriously, if I was putting my name on it I would make damn sure it didn't absolutely suck like this is appearing to be.

Re: Official Duke Nukem Forever Thread of Bad(Classic) Oneliners

I played it for about 2 hours last night and yep, it sucks as bad as the demo. It's just not fun to play, and games are supposed to be fun. I could forgive the terrible graphics/gameplay/design if it was at least entertaining. I suggest people rent it for a day or two since Duke is a part of gaming history, but do not buy it.

Wow this is too bad to hear. There was an extended preview before the Southpark I just watched, and graphically it just looked old. I said to myself, it's probably fun to play at least! Sounds like not? Damn!

Re: Official Duke Nukem Forever Thread of Bad(Classic) Oneliners

Is anyone really surprised it turned out so bad? The brand had some value more than a decade ago, and this was just a last-ditch effort to try and get some final money out of it. I would have preferred they never released anything, and let it remain the poster-child for vaporware.

It used to be the joke was that DNF was never released. Now the joke is that it was released.

No, the joke is that Gearbox wasted time working on this instead of Borderlands 2.

I honestly was. I thought, how hard could to be have three things? Duke Nukem sense of humor, controls and fun. 1 (iffy) out of three ain't bad Graphics, music? I was willing to give it a pass. But crappy controls and a difficulty level out of this world? No way. I always liked the character, no matter how years passed, this was just extremely disapointing. I guess I am naive, but I just didn't think they would mess this up this bad.

Re: Official Duke Nukem Forever Thread of Bad(Classic) Oneliners

Problem is ppl's expectations have changed over the years for FPS. Go back and play any FPS from 1999-2000 when DNF should have came out. Besides awful graphics, you'll find very lackluster gameplay. Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2 for example. I remember that game was once #1 on PC Gamer's top 50 games of all time.

I guess this is one reason why I hate that developers only make FPS now. RTS and TBS games have much longer life span and replay value. I still have a blast with Starcraft 1 online.

I read someone bitch about how you can't even save anywhere, only checkpoints I guess? This is for the PC version. Not to mention only being able to carry 2 weapons. Those are things Gearbox could of easily changed, inexcusable.

I generally hate Ctrl-Alt-Del, but that one is pretty good.
