I would gladly throw down $60 for a PS3 FFVII port.

2-3 games a year? :( At least they have Twisted Metal. That may be just enough to hold me over until a new one comes out.

You?

In any case, I enjoyed the overall game so much, I had no problem playing to the end. I just hope when the sequel is made, there's more puzzles and exploration and not seemingly endless waves of mercenaries that took way too many hits to kill. (How much was Roman paying them anyway? Did he just need the treasure to pay off his mercenary bills? And did he really need such a huge army if he was only chasing after two people?)

Did anyone shell out for Qore and care to comment on it?

Walker Boh 06-06-08 11:12 AM

PS3FanBoy has a 26-image gallery that shows what's included:

Raul3 06-06-08 11:55 AM

Yeah, if someone buys Qore post comments here. I'd like to hear from someone I "know". :D

I saw that, but I was hoping for some forum comments like Raul3 says.

UncleGramps 06-06-08 12:01 PM

For $3, I might buy the first episode of Qore just to see what it's like (and get into the SOCOM beta). If I do, I'll post some impressions.

Ocelot 06-06-08 12:07 PM

Nah, $3 is still $3... search the web or read from this forum, lol.

Sony charging for online features, demos, themes, and other content??? Oh noes! Where or where have I seen that structure before? :D

Nowhere.

Microsoft only changes to PLAY online.

Woohoo, I actually got the MGS4 PS3 bundle pre-order on Amazon. The pre-orders started at 1pm est, I got the order in at exactly that time, and in about 4 minutes all the pre-orders were gone, and the site has been acting funky, at times totally dead, ever since then.

Well they did hold some demos for Gold Members Only for a while.

So THAT'S what happened to Amazon. I wondered why the main page wouldn't load (was looking up something game-unrelated).

Okay, with the Wal-mart deal and after much thought, I am seriously considering throwing my hat in the ring and buying a PS3 for a BR player. I have always been an "xbox fanboy" to some extent and never owned a PS2 and had a PS1 quite briefly so I really don't keep up with any developments on Playstations. So please humor me with some quick dumb questions that may have already been answered here or elsewhere (but I don't wish to have to trek everywhere to search for them).

I have seen that there is an 80GB PS3 coming out with MGS4 in it for $499.00. The only difference I know of between the 40GB and the 80 is the backwards compatibility of PS2 and PS1 games and a new (revised?) controller. Is one controller better than another? What's the difference? Any other differences between the 80 & 40 not mentioned above (other than the hard drive space)?

Is Guitar Hero 1 & GH: Rocks the 80's (and their respective guitars) compatible with the PS3?

I don't think hard drive space will be an issue since I will continue to use my 360 for my gaming needs unless there is an exclusive PS3 game that I would like to have. Which brings me to the question...are there many "must-have" exclusive PS3 games?

Any rumors of a hardware price decrease in the near future?

I am wondering if I would have been better served when they were doing the free BR giveaways a few months ago with a purchase but I assume all of those are long gone and not coming back?

There is also a special at TRU this week for a PS3 System Value pack for $434.95 which includes the 40GB PS3, BR remote, recharge station and 1 game and 1 BR disc. Unfortunately the movies choices are awful and none of the 3 games are PS3 exclusive so it has me wondering if I need the remote or recharge station.

Also...are there any other accessories that are must-buys that don't come with the PS3. I hardwire my machines and just have component right now so wireless and HDMI doesn't come into play. Anything else I am overlooking that is needed?

Thanks for the help.

40 GB is backward compatible with PS1 games as well just not PS2 though there is a rumor that that could be coming via a FW update in the future (not important to me as I have a PS2 and have little reason to play last gen games on my next gen system)

Is one controller better than another? What's the difference?
new dualshock controller in the MGS bundle has rumble which the original controller (now being phased out) doesn't ... I like me some rumble so if you don't mind paying $50.99 for the controller out of a package deal (less at times on sale ex. buy.com w/google check out) its inclusion is an advantage

Any other differences between the 80 & 40 not mentioned above (other than the hard drive space)?
80 GB version has CompactFlash®, SD Memory Card and Memory Stick Duo™ card slots ... these are not on the 40 GB version but I have never wanted them
Four USB ports are on the 80 GB version while the 40 has 2 slots... 2 have been plenty good for me

Is Guitar Hero 1 & GH: Rocks the 80's (and their respective guitars) compatible with the PS3?
can't answer, I defer

Which brings me to the question...are there many "must-have" exclusive PS3 games?
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
MLB08 The Show
Ratchet And Clank: FTOD
MGS4

those are key to me ... others might add Hot Shots Golf, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, GT5, and a few others

Any rumors of a hardware price decrease in the near future?
nope don't think so

given they haven't returned since the first of the year I don't think we will be seeing something like this in the immediate future

so it has me wondering if I need the remote or recharge station.
remote is good if you aren't good with gadgets and can't negotiate through using the PS3 controller for playback .... I got mine for practically free but I wouldn't by any means consider it a necessity.... recharge station is worthless to me as you can recharge via usb on the PS3 itself or on your PC via usb

Also...are there any other accessories that are must-buys that don't come with the PS3. I hardwire my machines and just have component right now so wireless and HDMI doesn't come into play. Anything else I am overlooking that is needed?
optical cable for audio and I believe the PS3 still only comes with composite cables so you would need to buy proper Playstation capable component cables

Is there a certain name for the new controller or does it just say "rumble" (or whatever) on it?

I don't mind using the controller but tell me, does the controller power itself down after a certain period of time like the 360's do? That would be the only thing that would make me really want a controller if they do that. I would hate having to power it up to FF or Rewind if it shuts down after 5/10 minutes of no use. But I don't want to run the batteries out like crazy either if the controller is not being used.

Is there a separate jack for the optical and the component cables? Will any component cables do or do you have to buy a certain PS brand with a "special" attatchment for the component cables to work? If so...what do those cost?

Thanks for all the answer so far musick!

New controller is called the DualShock 3. It should be in the same spot the old ones said 'SixAxis'.

Rob V 06-08-08 02:29 PM

I picked up Hot Shots Golf the other day on the cheap --- great game. I love the golf swing mechanic; even though it's a three button push there is plenty of room for error - thus making the game fun and challenging.

Dualshock 3 as mentioned above

pretty sure it does not power itself down in anyway
if it does go into any kind of standby mode all you would have to do is hit the PS button on the controller to activate but like I said I don't think it powers down at all until you tell it to
controller and remote are both bluetooth enabled

yes, seperate outputs and you have to purchase a Sony or compatible version of their cable ... I think this runs about $20

Thanks for all the answers.

Well that sucks. I thought my 360 included component cables with the system and I expected the PS3 to do that as well...especially since they talk about the BR capabilities. Does the 80GB include anything other than composite cables or is it the same as the 40? I don't need it now but do you have to have a special PS3 HDMI cable as well?

I take it any optical cable will do?

musick 06-08-08 09:15 PM

any optical and any HDMI cable will do
80 GB, like the 40, also only has composite cables in the box

edstein 06-08-08 10:29 PM

I bought a PS3 last Sunday. I knew this going in but, the lack of any Hi-def cables and a normal remote control really sucks. I absolutely hate using the sixaxis as a remote for movies. Luckily I had a extra HDMI cable.

Not that I'm picking on you or anything, but I never get why people complain about not getting a remote control for movies on a game system in the box. I mean what system has ever included a remote for movies in the box.

With BR being such a highly touted part of the PS3 by Sony itself, it would stand to reason that a remote would be expected. It seems just as many people buy it for its movie playing abilities as buy it to game on.
