Ok, I was reading up on the new 'trophies' thing and I'm now, that much closer to buying a PS3. Now only if they could revamp that controller.....
|
by making it look more like a 360 controller?

I had the PS1, PS2 and the PS3. I never really thought the controller was that bad. Until the S-type controller came out for the original xbox. That design carried over to the 360. It's just about perfect. The sony controllers are just too small for my hands for any long term gaming sessions. My fingers cramp up. Plus, the PS3 version feels too light weight. I haved compared the weight to the dual shock 3, that one might be a little better from that standpoint.
|
My main issues are the analog stick positions and the L2/R2 buttons (almost worthless for me, especially now), the controller just doesn't fit the hand naturally.
|
I've had the snap-on trigger extenders for over a month now, and they really do make a nice difference.
|
I kind of apprehensive to download the new update with all the news about it bricking systems. Anybody have any issues with the update?
|
I downloaded it this morning and haven't had any problems so far.

The Stardust update is taking decades. And I've been kicked out of it once already. I'm hearing that the new expansion pack is available in the Stardust in-game store now.

Thinking about both the 360 and ps3 controllers, they have the same amount of buttons that are pretty similar. Does anyone know if there's a way to use the 360 controller on the ps3? I would imagine there could be a product you could by that would modify the 360 controller like a convertor or something similar. But then there always the six axis motion control that would not work with the 360 controller until microsoft comes out with their rumored motion sensor controller.

I think I saw somewhere someone modded a 360 pad and crammed all the DShock innards into it, but officially I don't think there are any converters. Plus everything is wireless which complicates things.

The real pisser is Sony forces you to do the update if you try and use online features, but then they refuse to take responsibility if it bricks your console out of warranty. Forced firmware upgrades should be Sony's financial responsibility if they are bricking consoles. |
Woo, good thing I didn't update then. I usually let them stew a few days anyhow.

the design of the xbox controler is really stupid and weak they are really just trying to copy the DS3 but they fail to deliver. |

the design of the xbox controler is really stupid and weak they are really just trying to copy the DS3 but they fail to deliver. I like the 360 controller mostly for it's analog stick, as they are placed ergonomically, are concave so your thumb won't slip off, and they have a good resistance from their center position. The PS3 controller has none of that. The sticks are in an awkward position for thumbs to stretch to. They are rounded, and my thumbs constantly slip off of them, and I'm usually pushing from the side of the stick. And there is virtually no resistance to the stick, and it's as if they don't want to snap back to the center. Then there's the issue of the triggers - the 360 has good ones that feel more responsive and natural for both shooters and racers. The PS3 triggers are afterthoughts that are very awkward to use. I could go on, as the 360 controller obliterates the PS3 controller in every conceivable way, but those are the main issues, so I'll stop there. |
Installing the firmware. Why I didn't read this forum first? :(
At least I have the 20GB PS3 (with upgraded HD to 320 GB). Edit: It seems I downloaded 2.36 (I was out for 2 weeks). I tried to upgrade from that and it says that I have the latest version. |
Wow, I'm surprised they pulled such a major upgrade. Hope there's no problem with continuing to use it. I really like the in-game XMB -- it's one of those things that I never thought was a big deal, but now that it's there, I really notice the difference.

the design of the xbox controler is really stupid and weak they are really just trying to copy the DS3 but they fail to deliver. The DS3 is the most comfortable controller with the primary analog stick in the middle of the freaking controller? Are you serious? There are millions of PC controllers and only a bare handful actually resemble the Sony controller. The DS3 is the standard controller for gaming? What? There is no standard controller. Every console has its own unique controller. The design of the xbox controller is stupid? Its not the controller with the primary analog in the freaking middle. People have been complaining about that for years, and Sony still refuses to change it. And how could the xbox being trying to copy the DS3 when the xbox controller came out first? Does MS have some kind of time machine that they used to go into the future to see what the DS3 would be like before they designed the 360 controller? |
