on the XMB
under settings >> system information system software will tell you which version 2.35 is the latest I think 1.82 added upscaling if you are not using wifi or a hardwire connection you can download firmware onto a usb device via pc and upload onto the PS3 http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Ab...html#update_PC |

people are reporting on the US playstation.com boards that the 80gig MGS4 units are rated for 380W max power comsumption which indicates the 90nm cell chip. this is very discouraging. my dvd player died and i was going to pick this up as a blu-ray player for second room. my 60GB unit fans sound like a jet taking off when upconverting a dvd. was wanting the newer 65nm chip hoping it might run cooler with less fan activity. at this point i think i may just pick up the 40gig unit which is confirmed to have the 65nm chip....crap really would have liked the extra hard drive space and extra dual shock 3.

I got my Metal Gear Solid 4 signed by David Hayter, Kenichiro Imaizumi, and Ryan Prayton

I just got the 40gb PS3 a couple of weeks ago. How can I tell if I have the 65nm chip version?
|
I got a PS3 a few days ago (Ratchet and Clank rock!) and can't get the damn sony bluetooth remote to "register". Is there a trick?
I know the problem isn't the PS3 because I got the bluetooth headset registered.... no problem. |
I just did my second remote, pretty simple. Put the battery in the remote, turn on the PS3 and go to the accessories option of the menu. Click register bluetooth devise. Then follow the on-screen instructions which I believe is to press the start and enter buttons on the remote. Good Luck.
|
Actually, with the latest update there is no "register bluetooth device". There is a "register bd remote" which is supposed to work as you describe. It doesn't. Broken right out of the package. That's some great quality control. Amazon can have this POS back. It sucks.
|
I got a remote in the mail the other day, got my PS3 yesterday. I didn't have a single problem with getting the remote to register.
|
I got the BD remote from Amazon, when it was $15. I have the latest firmware in my PS3 and I had zero issues registering my BD remote.

So I guess the MGS4 PS3 is somewhat hard to find? My friend went to Best Buy this morning at 9:30 and was 20th in line all for the PS3. Apparently he had also asked a friend to check Walmart after midnight and they were sold out.
Didn't realize it would be that popular for people to be waiting for them. |
Yes, the new 80Gig is hard to find. My local mom & pop game shop can't even order them. I went to wal-mart at 6 am and they were sold out (apparently they only got 8, which sold promptly at midnight). My wife went to 2 other wal-marts, one of which got 3, they other got 1. She got the 1 for me (she's awesome), but was there when it opened.
When I went to pick up the MGS4 LE at gamestop they had a few sitting behind the counter, but I don't know if they were pre-ordered or not. The 80 Gig is the current model with PS2 compatibility (can anyone confirm the new one is, I haven't gotten mine hooked up yet to find out) and I believe the 40 does not have wifi either. If sony wouldn't have stopped making the motorstorm version I am sure they would not be selling out of this one. Whether or not you like it, its probably a good business move on their part. I've been looking for nearly 2 months now for a new 80 Gig and didn't find one. I did however find a new 60 Gig at a flea market, but figured I may as well wait to buy a few more weeks and get a larger drive for the same $$. I would speculate that in a month or so they will be more available, but right now they are selling out due to the forced demand created by Sony (well that and MGS is a system seller). |
When I was at my BB this morning picking up my copy of MGS4, they had several bundle PS3s just sitting there on a dedicated MGS4 table next to the gaming section.

They ALL have wi-fi. There isn't a PS3 out of the two dozen models they've released that doesn't.

I also picked up the Monster Game HDMI cable. Does anyone know if its a good product or not? |
^
Congrats on your new toy! I would take back that Monster HDMI cable ASAP and order one up at, you guessed it, www.monoprice.com . A quality cable and you'll save mucho $$$. |
HDMI is HDMI. Retail HDMI is too expensive. Monster HDMI is an ass-rape. Please don't open it. PLEASE!
6ft $4.05 + nominal shipping. http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 |

Sadly, no. The cables Sony gives you will be the bottom of the spectrum. Just order that stuff from monoprice and wait the day or two it'll take. You'll save yourself about $80, if I'm guessing right.
If need be, expedite the shipment. What store did you buy the Monster from? Most stores are pretty good about accepting open cables as returns. If you're careful opening it, you *might* be able to just borrow that one until the other comes in. I cannot be held responsible for my scheming not working for others, however :) |
