Thanks for the info guys. I did hours of research and it turns out that was the problem. I read poeple just hacked off the third center prong! No way Id do that and I didnt know adapters were out there, so I found an old extension cord, hacked off the hard plastic that takes up where the third prong would go and it worked! Awesome!

On a seperate topic, does the PS3 upscale? My regular DVDs look like shit, around 480i, on there. DVDs on my Oppo look as good as my bluray Spiderman 3. Anyone know why this is?

Ive also noticed that my games, Viking, Conan, Resistance, look very crappy. Maybe 480p. However Burnout looks beautiful. When I tried playing Resistance, it said I had my TV set to 1080i, for better quality go to 720p. huh? Thats better than 1080?

My TV doesnt have 720p.

The PS3 does upscale. You'll have to go to the settings menu. It's there somewhere. I'd like to be of more assistance, but I'm about to pass out. If your question hasn't been answered by the time I wake up, I'll try and be of more help.

I seem to remember that the PS3 does not upscale, and that 720p games will get downconverted to 480p if you're TV does not accept it natively, but maybe one of the gazillion patches has corrected this.

It's not a safety device on the PS3. It's just the stupid connector they used because it's really more of a computer at it's heart.

If you look around your house, what you will find is that just about every appliance with a metal case has a three-prong outlet. This may also include some things, like your computer, that have a metal-encased power supply inside even if the device itself comes in a plastic case. The idea behind grounding is to protect the people who use metal-encased appliances from electric shock. The casing is connected directly to the ground prong.

Let's say that a wire comes loose inside an ungrounded metal case, and the loose wire touches the metal case. If the loose wire is hot, then the metal case is now hot, and anyone who touches it will get a potentially fatal shock. With the case grounded, the electricity from the hot wire flows straight to ground, and this trips the fuse in the fuse box. Now the appliance won't work, but it won't kill you either.

What happens if you cut off the ground prong or use a cheater plug so you can plug a three-prong appliance into a two-prong outlet? Nothing really -- the appliance will still operate. What you have done, however, is disable an important safety feature that protects you from electric shock if a wire comes loose.
Plastic is a terrible conductor and so if the neutral wire somehow fell off and touched the plastic case of the PS3 you still wouldn't be shocked. On the PS3, the 3rd prong is just a nice way to introduce ground loops... nothing more.

That is absolutley shitty! Im fully updated so there is no patch to fix that. Sigh.... Now I dont want to play these games till I can see them good.

I found something about upscaling but it says "double image' or something double. I guess thats it. Something about it not working on recorded media.

Those upscaling options are only for PS/PS2 games and DVDs. It does not affect PS3 games. You may already know this though.

Scaling on PS3 games is up to the developer. Some support 1080i; some don't. Some will scale to 1080p; some won't. Resistance is one of the many games that don't upscale.

PopcornTreeCt 09-28-08 06:20 PM

Speak of scaling options. What is the best option to use on the PS3? My TV is 1080i.

Assuming it's LCD or plasma, make sure 1080i and 720p is checked off in the display options. Then BD movies will play at 1080i and games will be 720p.

I should also mention that the PS3 will display games in their "native" resolution if it's available (as in, checked off in the options). For most games this will be 720p of course, but there are some games that can be forced to scale to 1080p by unchecking 720p. However, games that don't support scaling will drop to 480p in this case.

 Glad to help, but what was the point of posting here if you were just going to research it elsewhere, for hours, anyway? That kinda defeats the point of posting. I spent hours researching myself so I was supposed to be saving you that time. Spend 20 minutes going to the store to get a $1 adapter, problem solved. Oh well. I tried. :D

I still recommend getting the adapter though. I'd say $1 is worth the piece of mind over a jerry-rigged extension cord.

So... I bought the Buzz Quiz TV for the PS3 today...

Is there no way for 2 accounts (or more) to be signed in at the same time to play a game at the same time like on the 360?

Only 1 person can get credit and trophies for playing a game at a time?

PS3 like almost all upscaling players will only upconvert over HDMI and not component.

I don't have an answer to your question, but rather a question for you. How is Buzz?

While I have a Wii, I've been looking for a good multiplayer game on the PS3 that can bring a group or party together.

Music 09-30-08 04:39 PM

I have never played the others but I like it quite a lot so far.

I have read on the Buzz forums that some people are unhappy with the changes they made from the last version(s) though.

kenage 09-30-08 07:00 PM

Got a free "Pain" code from a buddy and so far it is not bad. I actually like it better than I thought I would but that might just be because it was free. I am having a hard time trying to get the trophies for this game though. I guess I need to get better with the Ooops deal.

fujishig 09-30-08 07:48 PM

Is there another thread for Wipeout HD? After all the people that were psyched about picking it up, I thought there'd be more discussion about it here...

Arthur Dent 09-30-08 08:30 PM

We should get a Buzz! game together at some point, fellow Buzz! Quiz TV owners!

Check the PSN thread.

Wow, lots of demos this week:
  • BioShock
  • Eternal Sonata
  • Beijing 2008
  • Brother in Arms: Hell's Highway
  • NBA 2K9
I'm currently downloading all except NBA. The first two are on my "probably buy" list, so hopefully the demos are fun.

Raul3 10-02-08 05:28 PM

Don't bother with Beijing if it's the same as the Xbox one.

fujishig 10-02-08 05:30 PM

Isn't it a little late for a Beijing 2008 demo? That game is already on clearance...

Welcome to Xbox 360, Fall 2007!

Walker Boh 10-02-08 06:01 PM

Ha ... nice. I'm just happy we're finally getting the only two former 360-exclusives I was really interested in.

*edit* Oops, I take that back ... I'm also interested in Mass Effect. I'm not sure if we're ever getting that one.

Raul3 10-03-08 01:25 PM

I downloaded the Bioshock demo and played it a bit. I love Bioshock so I had to try it. This demo looks and sounds the same as the Xbox version, I don't see any real improvement.

Still, I may buy this game just to replay it again :D

bunkaroo 10-03-08 01:57 PM

I'm definitely up for some Buzz TV myself.
