So I finally gave PixelJunk Monsters a go tonight. Very fun, so I went to buy it and... drumroll... the sale is over. :( Was that even a week long? Summer Sale my ass. More like blink and you miss it sale. Oh well. I'd rather get Eden for full price.

musick 08-03-08 09:59 PM

yep it was announced the sale would run for 1 week only
you are a few days too late

mattysemo247 08-04-08 08:52 AM

PixelJunk Monsters is addictive as all hell. I played it until like 3am on Friday night.

Decker 08-04-08 09:19 AM

Anyone try the Mosnter Madness demo? It wasn't great, but not terrible either. The game is on sale at CC this week for $39.99 - $10 GC. Since I already have a $10 GC, I can get it for $29.99. I might enjoy the game, but can'thelp but feel like the price of this game will drop like a rock.

shumway 08-04-08 09:25 AM

You can probably buy the 360 version cheap already.

Michael Corvin 08-04-08 09:52 AM

Isn't the PS3 version radically revised based on all the negative reviews/feedback on the 360 version? Or did that get patched?

shumway 08-04-08 10:15 AM

I have no idea. I would hope so. This is actually my hope for Alone in the Dark... that maybe they'll make it into a good game instead of regurgitate the same mistakes.

There are a lot of tweaks in this version (camera, upgrading, multi-player features) and a lot of mini-games added. I still don't think it'll be a great game, it should be a lot better (at least that's what I hope).

pinata242 08-04-08 10:39 AM

Is Monster Madness the same game I got on the 360 on clearance from Target for $9.98 - $9.98 (thanks $10 off coupon!) a few months ago? If so, is it not worth playing?

Decker 08-04-08 11:00 AM

From the most recent IGN preview:

The first mini-game I took for a spin was a driving game that put you behind the wheel of a small buggy and tasked you with running over as many wandering zombies as possible. The controls felt pretty good and hitting undead creatures with your front bumper is satisfying enough, but there wasn't really anything too appealing beyond(!) that.

The next mini-game worthy of note was a healthy game of Dodgeball, which was surprisingly fun. In this mode, all you need to do is pick up and throw balls with the Square button and you can hop out of the way with a push of the R2 trigger. As simple as this mini-game was, I found it highly entertaining and I'd definitely go back to it. Also, watching a bunch of zombies play dodgeball is pretty funny, though I do have an odd sense of humor.

Lastly, I spent some time running the Gauntlet, which is a massive (and extremely deadly) obstacle course. Flamethrowers, spikes, conveyer belts and spinning helicopter blades are all at work to make your teen's life as miserable as possible. Although I couldn't make it through the Gauntlet on the first try, I could see why people would come back to the game hoping to complete the entire course and also finish it with faster times.

And from the previous one:

Although the controls have been tweaked, the camera has been adjusted and online multiplayer is now dynamic, the actual campaign mode is identical to the one found in the 360 version. Players will start with Zack, Carrie, Andy and Jennifer and traverse a zombie-filled suburb in an attempt to survive, slowly unraveling the reason why their town has been thrown into hellish madness. Each character has a specific melee weapon to use (Carrie has a sword, Jennifer has a set of knives) and anyone on the team can purchase projectile weapons as well. While we were only able to afford the most basic item, a nail gun, we generally enjoyed swapping between these two modes of attack on the fly in order to dispatch our zombie foes. Gameplay is, obviously, very straight-forward.

Controlling your character is simple: movement is mapped to the left analog stick while shooting your currently-equipped gun is mapped to the right stick. Pressing the circle button at any time will switch over to your melee weapon so you can get in close and slash away. As we've mentioned before, your character's guns and items are upgradeable and you can expand your inventory at large mobile trucks that make appearances throughout the campaign.

Although we were somewhat wary of the game's voice acting, the comic-book style cutscenes were stylish and pretty entertaining, sporting impressive art and very expressive characters. These sequences seem to compliment the whimsical and sarcastic themes woven through the game and dictate that players clearly aren't expected to take the experience seriously.
Besides playing through the first few missions of the campaign, we also tried some of the Challenge mini-games newly available to the PS3 version. Monster Race puts you behind the wheel of a small buggy of sorts with a large turret mounted on top. Players will drive down a battered road and attempt to jump through glowing rings and avoid obstacles. Also entertaining was the Slice and Dice game: a seemingly simple jump-rope style mechanic made twisted by forcing you to either jump over or duck under spinning blades.

Lastly, we played a quick round of Homerun Derby, which found your character up at bat against an undead pitcher that throws heads at you. Knocking them out of the park will earn you points -- very nice.

There are many other Challenges we've yet to try, but they seem to promote simple and quick gameplay sessions that mix up the pace of the campaign experience. We were also happy that Monster Madness again features full cooperative elements, giving players the chance to kill zombies together. We'll have more on Monster Madness: Grave Danger soon, so stay tuned.

I've got a major problem and I hope this isn't a newbie issue either. I've got the box to send out my PS3 for repair but I want to back up my gamesaves onto a flash drive. I go to the Saved Game Utility menu and press triangle for each save, then I press copy. The problem is that it says something along the lines of "insert storage media at save destination" and won't let me copy anything. I've had the USB drive inserted at the time of this happening. Is there something I'm missing?

Do you have another USB drive that you can try? Does the PS3 even recognize that a flash drive is attached? On the XMB, for music, movies, and games if the flash drive is attached, there should be an icon for "flash drive" to allow you to look for any of those things on one. Is that showing up?

SteveOVig 08-04-08 03:15 PM

No, it doesn't seem to recognize my drive. Should I buy another drive and try again?

What type of drive is it?

Just the opposite here. I've been sitting on it unplayed waiting for the trophy patch.

It's a pretty great game. Nice graphics and superb animations. Some of the best voice acting I've ever heard. Little replayability, though. You should enjoy it.

FAT32?

Have the properly named folders on your drive?

shumway 08-07-08 09:26 AM

Any one else looking forward to Fat Princess? I think it looks pretty cute and like a load of fun. The title alone was almost enough to sell me. As long as it doesn't have reviews saying it's utter crap I'm down first week.

Yea, I'm looking forward to it as well, but we'll be waiting for a little while, since it looks like a 2009 release.

I would be if it was on XBLA since it has a multiplayer focus.

I'm not sure what FAT32 is. I didn't know I had to have folders named going by the gamefaqs FAQ I was looking at.

FAT32 would be the filesystem from format. Have you connected the drive to your PC previously? When you do, does it recognize it?
