I don't even own a 360 and its my favorite controller. I have one and use it for my PC games.

While the 360 controller is great for FPS, I find the d-pad severely lacking when it comes to fighting games. I would have thought Microsoft would have done something about that by now.

Very fair complaint. When it comes to digital pads the Classic Controller on the Wii is my current favorite with the Saturn pad my all time fav.

Do people still use the D-pad for gaming? I'm not big into fighting games but I think I'd still prefer the analog stick.

Fighting games, skate or other "extreme" games, arcade games. Anything where you need really accurate 90 or 45 degree movements is better served with an accurate D-pad, which the 360 definately lacks.

I turned on the PS3 last night and when I signed in, it prompted me for a system update. It was not 2.4, however. I think it was 2.36 or something like that.

I have the 60 gig model because I wanted the BC with PS2 games.

As for the update, I decided to wait it out. Apparently a wise choice since I'm in the 60GB camp. I don't game much on the PS3 lately so it wasn't a huge deal anyway.

I just hope somebody makes a 360-esque controller for the PS3 at some point, that would make me happy.

I also just got the 2.36 revision, heh, guess that's what I get for not turning the sucker on (outside of blurays and uhm.. "burnt media") for gaming.

I have a 60g, and I DL'd 2.40. So far, no problems. I've been playing GH:A though. I haven't watched a movie since the update.

Apparently, once it's installed, you're in the clear. The problems are coming from the installation.

They apparently don't take any responsibility for it: if it's within your warranty, they'll fix it. If not, you have to pay for it. ---> :rolleyes:

Sony Customer Support has always made me taste the sadness. From Betamax to PS3, there's no stopping it.

Really??? WOW! The only issue I ever had with my launch PS2 was a disc read error after like four years and they fixed it for free.

Weren't there class action lawsuits brought against them that had to due with faulty mechanisms causing disc read errors? If so, that could explain why they helped you out after so long. Remember, there's no such thing as a benevolent corporation. :)

The 360 controller is great for what it is really designed for I think: FPS games and other action titles.

The d-pad sucks hard, which is annoying for games with lots of menus (Easier to flip through menus with a d-pad) and of course classic games, fighting games,etc.

It sucks so hard I've been using the analog stick for SF2HDbeta.

Very good except for the d-pad though.

If only I could get a Sega Saturn -> 360 adapter :D

The PS3 pad sucks like the PS1/PS2 controller did:
-The recessed-in-the-middle d-pad sucks the most (too stiff, and awful for Street Fighter and the like...tolerable for Tekken).
-The button labeling is tedious to type/say (Triangle-square-circle anyone?).
-I'm always bumping the right trigger on my knee when I play Tekken (since I put my fingers on it kind of like a joystick to hit button combos fast enough) because they are kinda hanging out from the controller..

-The analog sticks are an afterthought on the controller from the Dualshock1 era and it shows - they are awfully positioned...also convex, and too floppy (not enough spring-back). Although the PS3 controller is a tiny bit better in this respect with less slippery sticks.

Wow, that's pretty shitty. I think I'll be passing on any future updates until they've proven safe.

There is a Saturn controller with USB, but it's only for PC/Mac games and you have to import it.

I said to hell with it and downloaded the update from Neogaf. It seemed like no one that did the update through USB had issues. The update went fine, but Sony pulled the 4.0 update for Super Stardust HD so it was kind of pointless. No trophy chasing for me.

I bought this yesterday (to flip on CL), and they asked me if I wanted to keep the neon tags and stuff.....I laughed. :D

I ran an ethernet cable at my last place, but now my modem and wireless router are in a different room. Does the 40GB PS3 have a wireless card, or do I need to buy an adapter?
