Kind of a lame list - a lot of it is true, but has been true for me for years

For the record, I'm 36, and I do consider myself an old gamer...

You prefer playing against the computer
True, but I've never been a big fan of multi-player, not when I was 13, and not now. When I have other people to play with, I prefer a real game of basketball.

You only play when your girlfriend is out
This has always been true, from my teens up to now.

You believe that winning isn't everything
Again, always been true - it's always been about the road, not the destination.

It's been days, not hours since you last switched on your console
Yet again, as true now as it was 10 to 25 years ago - I play in waves, and it depends on what's out.

You’re the oldest person trading in games at GameStation
When you're really old, not only do you not care about trading in games, you don't even step into the types of stores that do.

You like your Xbox 360 and your PS3 equally
I certainly like the 360 better, only because it has more/better games.

You fondly remember a ‘golden age’ of gaming
Nah, while my favorite period of gaming was the SNES, even I know how much better gaming is now than it's ever been - and it improves every year.

You avoid playing on the Wii because it’s too much effort
I avoid playing the Wii because of that fucking screen telling me about the strap on the Wiimote every fucking time - I GET IT!!!

Your FPS experience consists of spawn, run, die... spawn, run, die... spawn…
Nope - I'm pretty good at FPSs, and even though CoD4 is the only multiplayer I take part in, I can hold my own pretty well.

You find the idea of videogames based on board games perfectly acceptable
Ugh - I fucking hate that shit and don't understand how someone can play that crap on Live when they can play Ikaruga instead.

You've pre-ordered GTA IV but don't mind if it doesn't turn up on launch day
Wrong on both counts - I don't pre-order, period, and I got GTA4 a day before launch.

So suck it, Dean Evans!

...you hear someone on Live ask "what's wrong with Dave, he sucks today" and someone else answers "It must be his dad playing". And it's true.

I get more exercise playing expert drums on Rock Band than I do at Wii bowling.

I agree with pretty much everything you said, save for this. I certainly remember a golden age of games, for me that was the tail end of the 8bit days into the 16-bit days.

While games are technically super impressive and expansive and innovative and all of that jazz now, my "golden age" of gaming seems better than things are now just because (if for nothing else) I appreciated games a fuck-ton more back then. Having to trade cartridges or "tapes" with friends to try new games, only getting new games for x-mas, birthdays, or when I got good report cards, having to get cheat codes out of magazines, the arcade experience. All that stuff adds up. While I've had some great gaming experiences on my 360 and ps2, xbox, and gamecube before that, they can't hold a candle to my gaming memories from when I was a kid.

Well, yeah, at that age any video game you're playing will leave a massive impression, and while a lot of those fond memories are certainly legitimate, they are mostly tinged with nostalgia. If you remove that lens, you'll see how much better we have it now. But you're right, we totally appreciated things more back then, regardless of age, if only because games were a lot more fresh, new and uncharted.

Oh, you're absolutely right. And I think this guy's point wasn't that you're an old gamer if you think everything was better back then, but you're "old" when you can say "I remember when", since you don't do much reminiscing when you're 13.

Yeah, but when people say "I remember the Nintendo 64 way back when," well, that just doesn't cut it. For video games, if you don't remember when Pong and Space Invaders came onto the arcade scene, and don't remember thinking Galaxian was totally revolutionary, then you're just one of those who jumped on the video game bandwagon.

I put our "Two Car Garage to Rec Room" off for three years and finally said enough. (her talking and being cramped playing games in a 10x12 room). Now she's happy and I'm happy with a larger space, new LazBoy sofa and loveseat and sound system that's acually able to breath. Yea, getting started is the hardest part but just visualize the reward.
