Just beat it... saved right before the "decision"... beat it both ways...

I finally got the 6-star wanted level achievement after having unlocked all three islands early on. In retrospect it seems so easy after all the various things I tried.

To start, I stole a Helitours chopper and flew it to the airport, landing immediately next to a military helicopter and getting in it. At this point I have the 4-star wanted level since I trespassed into the runway area. I took off and gained altitude until I was out of reach of the land units. I think I ended up over the water, but that move probably wasn't necessary.

The trick now is getting up to six stars without killing yourself. Normally using the helicopter to attack is difficult, but only if in the usual third person view and/or shooting towards the ground. Conversely, I discovered that it's remarkably easy to shoot at the police helicopters when in first person view. Simply don't use the analog stick at all when trying to shoot. Only use the rudder controls to aim left/right and the altitude controls to aim up/down. Normally, the choppers head straight at you and rotate to reveal those shooting at you, so it's possible to take them down before they get a shot off. If you do start to take damage, simply hit the throttle and fly far enough away to try again. Stick at shooting down the helicopters for awhile and you'll reach six stars. Then fly around town for five minutes and you've got it.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but it worked for me.

I believe there's specific points at the bridges in Alderney where you must fly under, not just anywhere under the bridges. You probably already know that, but thought I'd throw it out there.

Yeah, I finally got it working last night. I do believe there is a 'semi-glitch' involved with the Alderney bridges, though, because previously whenever I would go under a bridge that I had already traveled under, I would get a notification I had already went under that bridge and the little trophy icons would appear on my map for a few seconds.

But that stopped after my first attempt at the Alderney bridge series, when I only managed 2/4 bridges. As soon as I hit the far west bridge the "correct" way (right of the smokestack) the system started working again, my trophy icons reappeared -- even as I passed under the next bridge I had already done -- and I was able to easily do the final bridge, the ridiculously low one... easy because I'd already done it several times in both directions. I'm not sure what
Spoiler:
Dwayne
thought about that, as I was in the middle of taking him to Honkers on our 'friend date', heh.

But that one with the smoke stack is the key... I think it glitches up all future bridge passes until you do it the proper way.

DRG 06-10-08 10:11 AM

It's odd to hear so many strategies about the 6-star achievement, as I literally got it by accident after screwing around on the game during my first hour of play (it was the second achievement I got, behind the one you get for basically starting the game). I was walking on a foot path below one of the bridges and next thing I know I was at six stars. So I figured I'd keep on walking to Algonquin. I probably ate up half my time walking under that bridge and, had I known there was an achievement involved, probably would have just stayed under there to ride it out as the helicopters weren't hitting me for whatever reason. I ran around on foot in Algonquin for awhile, stole a car, and drove for a bit before I got the achievement. I guess I got lucky.

timewaster 06-10-08 11:27 AM

so who's your favorite char?

Bruce used to be my favorite, until i met Bernie.
This guy is a total riot.
In one of his missions, i am following him while he is jogging and he tells me to "follow my pretty ass".
The writer should get an award for this game.

fumanstan 06-10-08 11:56 AM

Probably Packie, since he just seemed like a normal dude. Or Dwayne. Brucie and Bernie both annoyed the shit out of me.

Haven't go to Bernie yet, but I agree with this, especially for Brucie. A**hole nags me to come get him to go boating, yet I end up losing 10% likeness after it's all said and done because I was 5 game minutes late. All due to the fact I had to come get him from all the way across the city. Never mind he has constant helicopter access, no, *I* always have to pick him up. Being a good friend I do, plus I pick up his nasty skanks too, and I take them around on their precious boat, and when we get back he takes *both* the girls and leaves me alone. So then what happens? After it's all said and done I end up losing 10% likability from Brucie because I was 5 game minutes late!!! **** you, you roided-up freak.

Oh well, I got the Liberty City achievement last night, I've done every activity on his list, and his chopper perk is useless, so I probably won't be doing anything with Brucie ever again.

Dwayne is my favorite character, Brucie and Packie are close seconds.

jonw9 06-10-08 04:17 PM

So I am starting the Bernie missions, and he called (or texted?) me to say he was giving me a car. where do I go to get it?

Is it at his house, or maybe one of mine?

Deftones 06-10-08 04:27 PM

look on the map for a small icon where to go. i think that's what happened.

Rival11 06-10-08 07:06 PM

You'll see it on the map - I believe it's in a parking lot somewhat hidden (have to jump a fence or something to get it).

jonw9 06-10-08 07:54 PM

Cool,I guess I didn't notice it.

Is there anything special about it? I mean, is there one always parked there (or respawns someplace), or can you lose it just like any other car?

It's an Infernus... (Lamborghini mixed with Pagani) - One of the fastest cars available in the game. (If not THE fastest...)

It's a really nice car, slightly better than Turismo IMO.

I lost it somewhere in middlepark, and unable to find it anywhere ever since.

Hunting pigeons can get tedious. I really hope that in the next game, they give us a weapon that won't get the attention of the police when firing. How about a crossbow? It's annoying to have to shake off a wanted level just because you shot a pigeon. I try to keep my distance with the sniper rifle, but sometimes it doesn't work.

Or, how about just having the game drop the wanted level as long as you hit the pigeon and only the pigeon?

Try killing close pigeons with the katana sword or chainsaw and the farther away ones with the gun with the silencer. -Oh wait, that's right.

I've been playing this game off and on for a week and just got online today, how is this game played online? do you do co-op or do you try to beat someone else completing a mission or am I wrong on both accounts?

All of the above. I haven't been on but a couple times a week lately, but it seems nobody around here is really playing online (yet)?

Groucho 06-11-08 08:57 AM

I played online the first week or so, but got tired of the disconnects and the lousy interface. So, I've been staying away until (if/when) they patch the 360 version (they already patched the PS3 online).

I'm totally disillusioned with this game after struggling with the final mission. You have to run through a gauntlet of unrelated tasks and if you mess up on any of them, it's back to the beginning. Interestingly, there's actually a checkpoint in this mission -- but it's after the first/easiest part. :(

I had the same complaint about Dead Rising, but that pales in comparison to this.

spainlinx0 06-11-08 10:31 AM

The game is fun. I am addicted to it. But it is not a 10. I have said it before, and I'll say it again. The controls are mediocre at best, and the camera is a hindrance. I would give it maybe an 8.2.

Ha, I was just thinking about this yesterday. I got a star for shooting a pigeon, which led to two stars when I was fled from my arrest, which ended up as three-stars when I was forced to defend myself as cops tried to riddle me with bullets as I tried to make it to a soda machine for health. The three stars led to four stars and a wild chase where multiple police were taken down, as well as dozens of innocent pedestrians who were slaughtered, mostly by the reckless cops. All because I shot a frickin' bird.

fumanstan 06-11-08 12:34 PM

Killing animals is NO LAUGHING MATTER.

kenage 06-11-08 05:45 PM

It is not a bird. It is a flying rat with wings.

matrixrok9 06-12-08 04:32 AM

Need help.
SPOILERS -

On the last mission, I'm suppose to catch up with Little Jakob when I'm on the boat and get underneath the chopper. But I can never catch up to the chopper and it just ends the mission. I've done it about 10 times and the chopper hits the water before I could catch up with it and then it leaves me behind.

-END of SPOILERS

Thanks for any tips/help!

jonw9 06-12-08 07:29 AM

Ok, I found the car. It was at the Bernie icon. I was thinking that was another mission. I didn't actually pick it up though, since after I got the call, I have been seeing a ton of Inferni on the road. I guess GTA is "thinking" about the car, so there is extra on the street.

On weird thing happened though:
Spoiler:
I was on the kill Francis/Derrick mission. I killed D since Francis was supposed to get the cops off my back. So I make the shot, leave the roof, walk to my car and drive away. No cops or stars? Then Francis calls me and says he will remove the heat, but there was none. I continued to the Church/Cemetary mission, and as I am going, I have 2 stars. I figured this would be a great time to call Francis, but he doesn't answer!

I would have rather killed Francis, since he was no help, and I liked Derrick better anyway!

Spoiler:
Focus completely on following along the coastline on your dirtbike. At the end of the chase you will see a giant ramp. It is not the cement ramp you might think it is, but more like a wooden pier past that. At the top of it will be a yellow checkpoint with an arrow in it. Go through it, and the chopper will pick you up. If you don't see the checkpoint you took too long.

Spoiler:
I noticed on this part that you dont have to gun it the whole time on the motorbike, but cant go slow. Just go at a good enough speed to avoid wrecking. Then, line up to the ramp (but dont stop). If you see the helicopter go past the ramp, your too late and will just fall in the water.

Once you get in the helicopter, just try to avoid the rockets. You dont have to shoot the boat.

Packie McCreary - mainly because of how fucking crazy they made him, best missions in the game.....three leaf clover.

Second would be Little Jacob because of his smoking habit - the mission where you're in the chopper with him is the best.

I don't see a dirtbike anywhere. Once I try to hang on to the chopper that Dimitri is on, I fall to the water. It tells me to get on the boat, which I do and I just try to chase him from there. If I leave the boat, it tells me to get back on the boat. I think there's a glitch on my game, I read a walkthrough on gamefaqs and they said the boat chase should be fairly easy. Thanks for the help.

Wolf359 06-13-08 09:36 AM

Just a quick stupid question....

The NPC's favorite insult is something like "Stupid mahaca" or maybe "malaca".

What are they saying?

Spoiler:
Hmm, you know what maybe yours is different than mine. I went for revenge and killed Dimitri. My final mission was a car chase, followed by the fight in the abandoned casino I think. Then the mobster escapes on a boat and you ride the dirtbike on the coastline. Perhaps since you went for the deal it's different?

uteotw 06-13-08 10:16 AM

I really have NO interest in continuing to meet people for pool, darts, etc. Does it matter that much if I ignore all these lame invites and just stay on mission?

I don't think it matters for the story, just the amount they like you.

I always get a call when I am on my way to a mission, never when I am just screwing around.

I usually accept, then call back and cancel right away, then you don't take the negative hit.

fumanstan 06-13-08 12:08 PM

Only thing is you won't get some of the perks that they offer, which come in handy but aren't necessary.

slop101 06-13-08 01:10 PM

Build them up enough to be able to take advantage of their perks, and after that, when they call to hang out, accept, and then just call them back to "cancel plans" and it won't affect you adversely.
