Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
For anyone interested (what the hell guys...none of you are interested in GTA anymore??? Why the hell was I the one providing updates only there for a while????) there is a huge spoiler video of a mission on IGN - I REFUSE to watch it because I want to enjoy it on first play through myself when I buy the disc on the 29th.
Also, here is the Episodes from liberty trailer - great trailer to watch even if you are not a fan of GTA: <embed src='http://media.rockstargames.com/products/rockstar/media player/RockstarMediaPlayer.swf?skin=episodesfromlibertycity/EN/embed&vidID=178&cacheAG=true' quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" menu="false" width="480" height="300" name="RockstarMediaPlayer" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" /> |

GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony got a 9.2 from IGN.

Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
No love for GTA4 here these days!
I downloaded Ballad of Gay Tony a few days ago and have been playing it a lot since. Lost and Damned didn't interest me and I never bought it, so I can't say how it compares, but I definitely think BoGT is worth buying. Not that GTA4 wasn't fun before, but the additions in this expansion make the game much much better. It seems to bring back the more over-the-top elements of GTA Vice City and San Andreas. Lots of drugged out rich people asking you to do very odd, dangerous things. So far I'm enjoying the campaign much more than Niko's. The new weapons and vehicles are great. The explosive shotgun is sooo destructive and the P90 can get you out of trouble in a jiffy. My favorite is probably the sticky bombs. Gotta love car bombs and exploding lengthy stretches of concrete filled with people. The tank and chopper are impressive as well. There are a couple missions where you need to 'escape' from the police in these beasts. As it turns out, the cops end up escaping from you. It's pretty cool dealing out so much death and destruction that the police just give up and let you go. Other additions include some really fast cars and motorcycles. The parachutes are fun, but not that useful outside of the missions. There are spots set up around the city for base jumping, and the choppers can fly more than twice as high as they did before if you want to skydive. Lots of new tunes and commercials on the radio, some cool locations (clubs, condos), and new civilian types round out the package nicely. |
Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
I really need to get back to this game. Completed the main story line but would love to get back and do the achievements plus the expansion packs.

Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
I bought Lost and Damned when it was on sale a few months ago but I haven't played it. I would probably wait for a sale on the Ballad of Gay Tony too.

Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
I love the superpunch cheat.

Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
tbogt is the best one yet - easily. I HIGHLY recommend anyone on the fence about this one to just buy it.
The clubs are very, very, well done - everything from dancing and drinking too much, throwing up, then waking up in a dumpster are awesome. When doing club Management, at first your just moving to different parts of the club, standing around looking for trouble, and kicking people out but the longer you do this, you eventually get a call to go an run an errand for a celeberity which can be anything from bailing them out with the paparazzi to going on a food run at a local deli. The missions are so damn outrageous, you WILL want to replay some of them of over again (which you now can do). The skydiving is excellent as well, just hold the b button down when gliding and enjoy the graphics. You literally rip liberty city from end to the other in this game (not much done in Alderny though, but no big deal there). This is the game I wanted when GTA IV was first released. I also love the Champagne challenger as well - good stuff. The fight club is pretty cool as well as you can also just spectate and bet to win some extra cash. There are booty calls, triatholon races (which by the way, are done better than most full on racing games - that nitro kicks ass), base jumping missions, group dances, drinking, new tv shows, new websites, new weapons which kick some serious ass, a noose tank which you can lower your wanted level with, a buzzard chopper with missles that is very easy to control, etc... Great, great game - it dethrones Saints Row 2. |
Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
I still need to finish GTA IV, but I've added Episodes from Liberty City to my Christmas list.
|
Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
Thanks for the write up Rival11 sounds great. I'm going to pick it up once I've finished up Lost and Damned.
|
Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
So I saw an ad for the new disc, and I got the impression that one of the new stories involved **** in some way, is that correct? Do you have to play as a ***, or are they just other characters in the game? Because I'm not sure if I'd want to purchase it if it's the former.
|
Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
I love how *** is censored, but not ****. Is there going to be a patch to change the definition based on last night's South Park?

Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
I prefer using fäg.

Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
I never finished GTA IV, and got to the last mission on Lost and Damned, so I'd better finish those before starting on this one.

I like getting a big wanted level, and then hitting one of the base jumping locations near Times Square (or whatever the fictional name is) and parachuting away. I also agree that drinking too much is hilarious. You always wake up somewhere new. I was in a fountain near the park! |

I'll wait until I see GTA IV for $20 then pick it and the Ballad up together.

Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
I hope someone can help me with this.
I finished Grand Theft Auto and Vice City on the Playstation 2. I bought all the other ones for the PS2. I then started to play San Andreas and found they changed the controls and I couldn't change them back. I found the game to be unplayable for me and I stopped. I forgot about GTA for a while until I bought a PS3 slim last week. I bought GTA 4 and found that the controls are the same. Having to use the Left and Right Thumb sticks to move around sucks. I keep hitting things when driving around. Am I the only one who finds the "new" controls almost impossible? The old way was so much easier. I wish they had never changed it or there was a way to change the controls back to the "old" way. |
Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
I only played the last-gen GTA games on the Xbox, and I can't remember if they changed them from VC to SA. What were the controls on the PS2 versions?

Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
In that case, you're probably out of luck. The D-pad is used for switching weapons and radio stations. The only way you could switch it is on the PC with a custom configuration. Most people have gotten used to the analog stick for movement, as it allows you to move at any angle (instead of the 8 directions on a digital pad) and walk/run at different speeds.
One change I think they made with the Xbox version was to move gas and braking to the triggers, to take advantage of analog control (which lets you regulate how hard you step on the pedals). This continued with GTAIV, but I think they still let you change it to X for gas. |
Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
Is anyone still playing this? I'm looking for a player or two to team up with for some online gaming. I'm working on my Platinum and getting these online trophies (I already have half of them) will take some time. I have it on PS3 so add me so we can play. I also have a mic so we can actually talk to each other unlike about 80% of the people that play this online.

Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!

They are coming to both PSN and Blu-ray, so I'd wager they'll be $20 at some point.

Anyone still interested in online boosting to reach level 10? Add me if you want to play.

Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
Yes, you would need GTAIV for PC. Fortunately, it goes on sale sometimes at Steam. It's been as low as $10 (including the DLC).
Note that the mod only has the city and no missions, at least for the time being. I know a lot of people enjoy it, but I never got into just messing around in GTA shooting people. I found it fun for a few minutes, but then I got back to the missions. |
Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
Damn i need to get GTA 4 PC next time it goes on sale

Re: The Official GTA IV - multi console super friends thread - Part 2!
I finally completed the main game. Final time 35 hrs "out of commission". Can go fuck itself! Took me three hours to finish that mission
