Mirror's Edge (360, PS3, PC)

Check out the "next big thing." I've been looking forward to seeing this in action since I've read about it in EGM a few months ago. This free-roaming-yet-linear game is very reminiscent of "Run Lola Run," as you need to almost constantly be on the move and make split second decisions, plus some very impressive acrobatics. Check it!

Looks pretty sweet, i'd love to read some more info on it.

The Bus 05-07-08 07:36 AM

Finally, a parkour game.

spainlinx0 05-07-08 07:38 AM

Looks cool, although I find the choice of a first-person perspective odd.

hmmm....rumored exclusive DLC for the Playstation Network...

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/3549.html

And now, here's the hottest rumor that has been circulating throughout the Internet: it seems the September issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine will include a very large feature article on DICE's Mirror Edge, and there's one surprising tidbit of information that may surprise some of you... Apparently, DICE - an EA-owned development studio - is using the PlayStation 3 as the lead platform for the game, and they're also talking about exclusive downloadable content for the PlayStation Network. Obviously, we won't be able to confirm this until we see the exact evidence in the magazine, but here's a leaked image that may serve as preliminary proof. If this is true, it means EA is clearly still trying to regain lost ground in the eyes of most PS3 owners.

I don't see anything about exclusive DLC, but it does mention the "lead platform" part, so maybe it's on the next page.

 I had the exact same thought.

I loved all the jumping and climbing in Crackdown and Assassin's Creed, so you know I'm all over this.

RichC2 08-06-08 08:09 AM

I figured District B13 would make a cool game someday.

Judging from that footage, you never have to worry about bullets actually hitting you.

Walker Boh 10-30-08 12:03 PM

According to Kotaku, the demo is coming to PSN today and XBL tomorrow. I'm looking forward to trying this one out.

scarface983 10-30-08 05:36 PM

this looks ok, but since gears is coming out, its not gonna get that much play time

maingon 10-30-08 10:11 PM

Demo was awesome, I had a hard time finding it on the PSN store, I had to go find it by searching for titles and looking for mirrors edge, it was showing up in newest demos,

Game is awesome, fantastic visuals, great easy controls. gameplay is alot of fun, I love the feeling you get of just running and jumping and sliding under everything,

bdshort 10-31-08 12:20 AM

Can't wait to try it out... started downloading all 4 new PSN demos before work, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to try them out.

pinata242 10-31-08 07:53 AM

I can't wait to give it a whirl.

The Bus 10-31-08 08:10 AM

This game is fantastic. And Rallisport Challenge is one of the best games.

bdshort 10-31-08 07:14 PM

Played the demo this morning once getting home from work. Agree, this game is really fun. Will have to give it another run-through, I have the hang of most of the controls, but not all of them. I want to try taking out the first set of bad guys you run into after you jump out of the air duct.

Nth Power 10-31-08 07:23 PM

The demo was pretty sweet. It looks great and the controls felt intuitive for the most part. It felt like a 1st person Prince of Persia.

DeanoBKN 11-02-08 09:28 AM

I thought for sure this game would give me a huge case of motion sickness, as most FPS tend to do. I managed to play through the entire demo headache free! I think this means it's a purchase for me. ;)

Next year of course. I'll be too busy with the other holiday games when this comes out.

Cosmic Bus 11-02-08 10:07 AM

I didn't care for the demo at all, with the controls being the main culprit. They felt very unintuitive to me, having to use the triggers for everything and their uses changing due to the context-sensitive nature of the gameplay. I was having to stop and think about what does what rather than simply being able to play the game. Wasn't really fond of the first-person view for this sort of game, either, and there were a handful of other little things that bugged me. Not a game I'll be buying, for certain.

I'm confused. What does one have to do with the other?

Baron Of Hell 11-02-08 11:31 AM

There is no way I can play this on a console but I might give the demo a try.

lopper 11-02-08 11:35 AM

I loved the demo, but I'll wait for reviews before I decide when to buy. If it turns out to be a five hour game or one that gets repetitive, then I'll wait to pick it up used somewhere.

xmiyux 11-02-08 12:17 PM

I've been pretty impressed with the demo so far. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for reviews on this title.

ElementZ 11-02-08 12:19 PM

I had mixed thoughts before playing the demo but the demo was very fun and I can see the potential. It's still not a buy for me, depending on the length, might be a fun rental though. It reminds me a lot of the Matrix (movie, not the game), as it is more designed to run from the enemy instead of fighting them head on. The controls will definitely take some time to get used to but I will play the demo a few more times.

RyoHazuki 11-02-08 12:21 PM

I played the demo and it was pretty enjoyable. It seemed like a first person crackdown. The combat was a bit of a let-down though. Also weird how the enemies will only melee you when you're close just so you can take their gun.

Supermallet 11-03-08 01:31 AM

I've been interested in this game since it was announced. I've got the demo downloading now, and hopefully will enjoy it. As others have said, provided it's not a 5-6 hour game, I'll get it.

slop101 11-03-08 12:10 PM

Loved the demo - if the full game can keep up that quality while mixing things up, injecting some variety for a satisfying product, it could very well be game-of-the-year material.

It had fun/puzzle elements similar to something out of Portal.

msdmoney 11-03-08 03:15 PM

I just played through the demo last night. I'm really surprised how well they pulled off a first person platforming game. They did a great job of keeping the motion fluid, even with just learning the controls I could usually keep myself moving forward. It goes a long way in this game to make the action tense, and makes you feel like you really are running from or to something.

I think I am still going to wait for a good deal on the game, I just have too much to play already. But I think I might bite for $40 rather than my usual $30.

kaze0 11-04-08 06:42 AM

I'm really impressed with the demo. I always felt like I could be moving. Good job programmers.

I finally played the demo last night and enjoyed it. I'll nab it on sale/price drop down the road like everyone else, but what the fuck is up with 'jump' being mapped to the left bumper? Was the 'A' button too intuitive for them?

Just a guess but I think maybe it was mapped this way so that you never have to take your thumbs off of the sticks to do basic movements. In the demo the only time you need to take your thumbs off the sticks is in combat.

Spiderbite 11-06-08 09:05 AM

I played it last night and it almost seemed revolutionary. It just seems so new and fresh. I fucking loved it!

The combat looks like it will take some getting used to but when you get going and you are jumping, sliding, and almost flying around...it feels fantastic. The controls seem quite intuitive and it was just a blast to play that first level after the training session.

Cannot wait for this one!

spainlinx0 11-06-08 01:20 PM

I thought the button mapping was a little weird, and I'm not sure if I like it. Maybe with more practice I would get used to it. Overally I won't bite at full price, but maybe at $30 if it gets positive reviews.

shumway 11-06-08 01:34 PM

I was whelmed. Couldn't get the controls right on the PS3 demo with the catwalk between buildings. After the 9th or 10th try I uninstalled.

UncleGramps 11-06-08 03:13 PM

Loved the demo. No motion sickness and no issues with the controls. I pre-ordered at Amazon with the $10 BillMeLater promo and the $10 gift certificate offer. I also got the code to unlock time trial mode in the demo, which is a lot of fun too. I am really excited for the full game. :D

Just so you know, for the catwalk/balance portion, the motion controls are optional. You can just balance yourself with the left analog stick. I tried the motion controls once, hated them, and then used the analog stick with no problems at all.

you dont need to use the motion controls, i just used the analog stick and never died there

Tuan Jim 11-06-08 08:23 PM

Yeah, it's a little counter-intuitive using both left bumper and left trigger for jumping motions - right and left would be easier (hopefully we can remap later) - still, very interesting. Definitely on my list for the future - but not release day.
