I played the 360 demo and all I can say is...I hate this game; but I love this game too!!!:grunt:

I had some serious trial and error moments that made me want to throw my controller but once things started working I was totally into this game. It's not perfect; but not only is it really addictive, it looks really cool and the music is perfect.

I really want this game!

Michael Corvin 11-08-08 08:50 AM

The only trouble spot for me that got real annoying was dropping from the first zip line onto the rooftop. For some reason it took almost a dozen tries to land on that damn platform. Something about being in first person and judging the trajectory of the fall was just throwing me off, big time.

bunkaroo 11-16-08 02:19 PM

Just got around to playing the demo myself. Definitely a $30 pickup for me. Had fun with it but can't see spending $60.

Surprisingly it did not make me sick. Last game that did that was Resistance: FOM.

Giantrobo 11-16-08 04:22 PM

Yeah I'd wait for a price drop. I picked it up for $20 with the trade in deal at the "Evil" Gamestop. It may be relatively short if you're a talented gamer and can always get it right the first time, but for the rest of us it'll probably last a bit longer. One thing I'll say is so far it's been one of the few new games that has really been able to get my adrenaline going while playing.

I definitely agree. I just started playing it on Friday and I'm already on the last chapter after a few hours with it. It's a lot of fun though and I'm glad I picked it up as it's one of those games that is a blast on multiple plays. I will say that I'm not a fan of the combat in the game and situations where you're forced to fight are easily the weakest. Boss battles, machine gun toting security guards, and ninja cops are the bane of my existence. I really hope EA supports the game with download content such as new stages and whatnot.

Did you sign up for the Time Trials? I would love to do it but I just haven't got around to it. To be honest, I HATE time trials in games but for some reason it seems like it would be a fun challenge here. I agree with you on the fight thing. In fact, it's the only thing that pulls the game down in my opinion.

Oh man, here's a rant.

Yes, I signed up for the time trials and completed a few of them. I also did some Speed Runs after beating the game, started going back to find the bags, and started going through the game on "Hard". While doing a Time Trial, the Xbox Live server decided to disconnect me while EA was saving my information. Now my save file is corrupted (it doesn't say it is, but the game will not register it).

I lost all my progress though the Mirror's Edge save data still appears on the HDD. The game will also not save new information, because I'm assuming it still recognizes the data there. If I beat stages and go back to the main menu the information is gone. The weird part is my times for time trials are still posted and I still have stars for completing them.... I have no idea what to do! I guess I can erase the save data from the HDD and start over, but I'd rather it not come to that :(

Giantrobo 11-17-08 12:11 PM

Oh man that sucks big time. I don't know what one can do about corrupted data.

Delete the file and start all over again, that's what :(

The good part is that, knowing what I know about the game, this time around is going really fast. I'm already on Chapter 6 after starting about an hour or so ago.

Wick 11-19-08 02:22 AM

Such a mediocre game. I'm glad I rented it, instead of spending $60 on a game I wouldn't end up liking. I had high hopes for it, but I've had a problem getting into it. It bored me at about the 3 hour mark and I just want to finish it quickly now.

Giantrobo 11-19-08 06:43 AM

Yeah it's not for everyone.

Re: Mirror's Edge (360, PS3, PC)

Thought I'd revive this thread. Just started playing Mirror's Edge and I'm quite enjoying the story. However I can only play for a max of an hour before I start feeling motion sick. The combat is kinda frustrating. Once I take down one guy, I just use the gun to get rid of the others, it's so much easier.

Re: Mirror's Edge (360, PS3, PC)

I picked this up last night at Target on clearance for $20. Seemed like the right price for this. I'm having a lot of fun so far, just finishing Chapter 1. I'm not getting any motion sickness, which is a bit surprising to me since there are even parts of Gears of War that get me dizzy. Loving the controls, and don't have a problem with using the LB and LT buttons. It's different, but feels fine.

I was playing a TimeTrial the other day after a long break and I almost threw my controller at my tv.:grunt:

But I still LOVE this game.

I may even break my "I won't buy DLC shit" rule a get the new maps.

Just finally picked this up, and I am loving it, this game has some of the best Visuals and lighting in any game I have played. the combat can be frustrating since she dies very easily, but when your moving this game is amazing. Hope we get a sequel someday and they can improve the combat or make this game more open.

Don't. Trust me. If I could give you DLC, I'd do it, but it would still be a waste of your time.

These new maps look nice and interesting, but they're laid out and play like shit - you seriously cannot tell where to go or what to do most of the time. These maps are worthless. If the regular time-trials frustrated you at all, these would kill your soul from the inside.

Wow  Ok, I'll hold off until they do a serious sale.

But still, I think one of the things fans asked for was "free roaming". Also one of the fun aspects of the ME game is that there's usually more than one way to get from A to B. Is it possible the maps did this and you just didn't get that?

Hints:

--You don't have to fight. In fact, with the exception of areas where you are FORCED to fight...avoiding the enemy is the best way to go. Wanting to fight each bad guy you encounter may help in most games but it won't help you here.

--Momentum is your friend ;)

--Get good at Wall Running and the L Bumper, R Bumper, L Bumper move off of walls

-- In most cases there's more than one way from A to B

Apparently it's for me. I finally started it last night and I'm LOVING it. It has the platforming fun of Prince of Persia mixed with the precision and timing of Splosion Man. It can be frustrating but nothing insurmountable.

I also love the evade sense in this game. I'm nearly done with Chapter 6 and I haven't shot anyone yet. (hopefully I can hold out for the achievement). Running from the enemy and executing multiple jumps, wall-runs, etc. really gets my heart racing. It's such a rush and sense of accomplishment. I don't think there's a game that has done that since the original Condemned.

Faith is a great character and the story is decent enough. I love the style as well. It's too bad this game didn't catch on because a sequel that improved on certain aspects of the game would be awesome. I'm already wishing the game was longer since I only have a few chapters left and I just started.

I loved the game as well. I wish it was more open ended so you could just run and jump and explore the city

Any news on the release date of MIRROR'S EDGE for IPHONE???

Does anyone recommend any other parkour-type games for Iphone, PS3, or PSP??

The only other one I can think of is CANNABALT for the IPHONE.

I borrowed this from the library for free and felt ripped off. I'm seriously reconsidering buying this PS3. 99% of it's usage since Christmas has been Netflix streaming, and we could have done that on a far cheaper BluRay player.

I recently downloaded the demo and dug what I played. However, since I read it's a 6 hour game, I'll only get it if I find it for $20 or less.

That's the list price now; it's around $15 on Amazon.

Re: Mirror's Edge (360, PS3, PC)

I would advise anyone considering this game to give it some time before writing it off. For me, the first hour or two was frustrating, but it's fun once you get a feel for the game. The problem is that it's so different from what we've played before. We've never had such an emphasis on movement and jumping in a first-person game. (Most FPSs have relatively simple movement and the challenge is about aiming.) So, it takes time to get used to this.

Some people have said they wanted it to be an open world. I don't think that's the right approach for this game. The levels are set up like a race course, and they want you to keep moving through them. An open world would cause you to constantly stop and explore, which to me goes against the spirit of the game. You'd also have a tendency to get lost, forcing you to backtrack and stall even more. This is not about exploration; it's about running and jumping through the courses.

Agreed. Bought the PC version for $5 from Direct2Drive last year sometime, playing it with a 360 pad, absolute blast of a game.

"We have not abandoned the franchise. And we are working on something, but I'm not willing to talk more about that."

The news follows last month's admission by EA Games Label boss Frank Gibeau that ideas for a sequel to the DICE game are being worked on. At the time, he said he's sure we'll see the IP combined with the Battlefield developer's new Frostbite 2 engine.

I imagine it would be worse for you than typical FPS, since the movement is so demanding in comparison and you're often running. It's essentially a first-person platformer.

Good news about the sequel, but I really hope the "way to bring it back" doesn't involve neutering the concept like Burnout Crash.

DJLinus 08-04-11 09:48 AM

Re: Mirror's Edge (360, PS3, PC)

Yeah, I could only take a few minutes of watching him play before I had to bail. What I saw looked neat, though.

I wish I could handle FPS because some of those types of games look sweet. Occasionally I'll switch over to that mode when I'm playing Fallout: New Vegas, but that's just when I'm leisurely poking around a room, not running and gunning.
