Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
In this case I agree with the lawsuit, it's Game Stop's responsibility to tell shoppers that the item they are purchasing is incomplete -- where listed game features are unavailable, which goes beyond day 1 DLC.
People buying used games for $55 are pretty stupid, unless it was a B2G1 with a ton of other discounts thrown in. |
Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
gamestop allows returns on used games in 7 days if not happy right???? seems like even if you bought it not knowing about online pass you would still be covered...

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
Hey, fox, while you're up GS's ass, please check its prostate.

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
I do know that one of my best friends went into gamestop a while back and saw a used copy of Bulletstorm with the online pass still inside. I don't think there is anyway to know if the code had been used, but he figured what the hell and took it up to the desk. The person checking him out removed the code after placing the game in the case. When he asked what he was doing, the person said they remove all codes since the game is being sold used. He ended up not buying the game...
I know this has nothing to do really with the above few topics...I just wanted to get back to how much gamestop sucks... |

I wonder if a corporation like Game Stop can survive that. |

That's a good point. In any case this is going to seem like a minor inconvenience if the rumors about the next gen consoles are true and used games get phased out of existence.

We do. But I was told I was up GS's ass because I feel the consumer must take on some responsibility for what they're buying. Therefore you must be up there with me, but I'm not checking that gland.
and last time I checked...anything to do with the butt is illegal in Oklahoma... edit: I guess I have not checked since 2003.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodomy_..._United_States |
Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
But this lawsuit started over two years ago when online passes were just an experiment. Clearly it's still topical.

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
i went to Gamestop yesterday. I haven't been to one in months. Have they increased their used game prices? They all seemed pretty high for games that have been out a long time. They had Too Human at 25 bucks used...yikes. Their used version of Goldeneye Reloaded was 35.00, but the new copy is 29.99. LOL I just remember being able to get some good deals in the past, it looks like most of their games are $20+. Looks like I will continue to use ebay to get games used.

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
Too Human is 4.99 used on their website...maybe your gamestop is lazy with price tags?

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
I really liked that article as well. Games probably do cost too much -- at least before first sale or discount. And the nickle-and-diming of EA especially in regards to DLC has got to stop. It really discourages people from getting new games for fear of having to spend and spend to get the "complete" game -- Tiger Woods 12 was the worst offender. And the constant re-releasing of those fighting games in new "Ultimate Editions" is totally killing sales of that genre of games entirely.

Entitled whiners, all of you!
(I liked the article too.) |
Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
This is getting away from the evilness of Gamestop, but I don't see how Used Games are the evil here. Brutal Legend would have been 10 bucks anyway, because the competition is new games, and old games are continually clearanced or put on sale to get them moving. It's gotten to the point where only a sucker pays for a game on day 1, because if it's even a semi-mainstream game, it'll be on sale within a month (or at the very least in a B2G1F sale). If it's an Ubisoft game, you're an even bigger sucker for buying it on release. It's not about perceived value, either.

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
When you have a $60 game like Skyrim (I'm not talking about subjective quality, but objective breadth), why would someone pay the same $60 for a game with less than half it's content?

The retail price of games is not too high. In fact, new game prices have never been cheaper in real terms (there were a number of SNES games that were $60 or more nearly 20 years ago). Used game sales don't hurt the industry as a whole. It helps the industry greatly. What really hurts game developers is the sky rocking cost of retail game development on the 2 most powerful consoles and consumer's other entertainment options. |
Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
How is game development skyrocketing in 2012? That argument flies for the Xbox generation or early this gen with the switch to HD, but the longer the 360 & PS3 hang around, shouldn't development be going down? Companies know how the systems work and have tools at their disposal to expedite the process. The difference between now and 5 years ago is marketing budgets, something consumers shouldn't be footing the bill for.
I also don't buy the inflation bit either. Cartridges cost that much due to the format, not a perceived value. |
Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
Yeah, when we keep hearing how the video games industry is pulling in more cash than the film & music industries combined, it's srta tough to see how they can be underwater, if at all.

I also don't buy the inflation bit either. Cartridges cost that much due to the format, not a perceived value. PSone games were $50 iirc. The bottom line is that a new game @ $60 is a smaller % of your income now than a $50 PSone, N64, SNES, NES, etc game. |
Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
Just stuck my head into the mall Game Stop at lunch (after picking up my daughter a Hunger Games t-shirt). I heard this exchange between the clerk and a customer:
"You know Max Payne comes out next month?" "Yeah" "Did you pre-order it yet?" "Yeah, I did" "Oh, good!" Yeah, they might run out of copies that first week. I remember those terrible shortages of L.A. Noire copies last year. |
