(when you sign up for Live Gold, there's a stipulation in the agreement that forces you into auto-renewal that you can only cancel if you call)

Call them (800-4myxbox) and give them a new credit card for what they've been trying to bill you for and ask them to not automatically re-bill you next time.

I tried calling the other day, but the agent gave me the number for the collections department and said I had to take it up with them.
I called collections, but they said they have no control over actual accounts, just billing.
So I called support again and they basically said since the account was deleted, there was no way to re-instate it and I had to make a new live account.

slop101 07-09-08 10:52 AM

Weird - because the same thing that happened to you happened to me (they tried to rebill my canceled credit card, which was the default card for them), and I just said that I'm willing to settle up, but they just can't rebill a canceled card. So I gave them a new card for them to bill my balance to and they reactivated my account - they threw me around to different department, but I think ultimately it was billing that took care of it.

But they hadn't deleted my account, just suspended it, so I guess they could reactivate it - you may have gone over their allotted time for action.

It's still bullshit on their part, as I don't see why they can't just knock you down to silver if they can't rebill you for another year of Gold - to completely take away and delete you tag (along with all the stuff that goes with it - arcade games etc.) is pure asshole on their part.

I think if you call again and complain about their shady practices (don't be an asshole yourself, just be very stern), you may get better results - it all depends on the person taking your call.

...And this is why it's best not to have any credit card information on your account. Always get points and Live via cards so that you automatically revert back to Silver when your time is up. I almost ran into the same problem last XMas, as my mom put her credit info on the account to get me Live as a gift, and her card had expired.

When I first signed up with Live, one of the first things I did was set my auto-renewal to monthly. I didn't want to get hit with a $50 charge. I figured $7.99 would hold me until I could get a new Live card (code) elsewhere for cheaper. My GOLD sub. ran out in January and I went to monthly charges. I guess the RRoD may have been a blessing in disguise as that occurred in mid-Feb. and I paid just my 2nd monthly charge of $7.99 although my box in repair status. My account remained active and I was able to get back as soon as my repaired unit came back days later.

Anyway, along with my repair they sent the complimentary month of Live card. I entered the code before the next monthly charge was set to hit in March. Upon doing that, I discovered that my auto-renwal had been reset to N/A and the card was taken off auto-billing. :)

I still see it listed if I want to buy MS points but it is no longer being billed monthly for the Live service. I have reverted to Silver and back to Gold a few times since then and all remains well. :)

So skip the call to MS and just get yourself a month card to attach to the end of your subscription. Credit card should then be removed.

Target to offer $25 gift card with $299 Xbox 360 Pro
Posted Jul 9th 2008 8:45AM by Dustin Burg

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.xb...echeapmore.jpg

Seeing that we're 99.89% sure an Xbox 360 Pro price cut is headed our way this weekend thanks to a flood of leaked retail ads smacking us in the face, one wouldn't be all that surprised to hear that Target is planning on selling the Xbox 360 Pro for $299. But one would be surprised to hear that Target is also throwing in a FREE $25 gift card on top of the deal, and that's exactly what they're doing.

According to an "alleged" ad-scan that was sent our way, beginning this Sunday, Target stores nationwide will be selling Xbox 360 20GB Pro consoles for $299 and tossing in a $25 Target gift card to sweeten the deal. So, if you, a friend or family member are in the market for a 360 and don't care about getting a 60GB HDD, then hit up Target next week. A cheap console and a free gift card sounds like major "good times" to us.

So, it looks like that ad may be legit. Though I'm not sure if Photoshop can add that fold into a graphic like that. ;)

Of course it's legit! Unless you doubt our very own speedy when he posted the usual Target info last Thursday. ;)

Mascots are a bit part of the game this time around. You can even play an all-Mascot exhibition match for some reason.

Yeah, it's mentioned in the other price drop rumor thread.

And that guy doesn't look like an anime character :(

It's the "Wii friendly" version (All-Play branding)

as opposed to the standard:

Nothing is "standard" for '09:

by standard, I meant non-"cartoonish"... The All-Play labeling is Wii only

pinata242 07-09-08 03:40 PM

I know, but isn't this the first time they have varying covers anyway? I mean, I could see 3 of them on that scan and I wasn't confused by the "anime"ish artwork like our buddy Ryan was.

I wonder if the different versions of Madden 09 will have Brett Favre in a different NFC North uniform for every different version?

No, simply because the Lions would be too fucking stupid to not sign him.

Published July 13, 2008

Redmond, Washington—Microsoft is giving consumers more gigabytes for their buck. The company today announced an Xbox 360® console with triple the storage space of the original console, but for the same price of $349 (U.S.) estimated retail price.

Available in retail stores in the U.S. and Canada starting in early August, the upgraded Xbox 360 will include a 60GB hard drive for storing the growing wealth of digital entertainment available for the console, including music, movies, television shows, and game content. The Too Human demo should be up according to Major Nelson. Not generally my type of game, but I'll be checking it out regardless just to see what the fuss is about.

OMG OMG OMG. I think I feel the flu coming on...must go home...ASAP.

Can't wait to try this. Silicon Knights is a solid development house. I have heard some bad early buzz about this game however (primary complaint is that it's too short).
