What's total bull? It's natural for engineers and developers to be looking at the next console generation after a few years into the current lifespan. Graphics can continue to improve, moving beyond DVD is a given (whether Blu-ray is the successor or not is a question), and i'm sure hard drives or some sort of memory will be standard on all of the consoles with downloadable content so big right now.

There's no doubt that people are trying to come up with some sort of fancy controls too after seeing the Wii success.

And considering they just got the RROD pretty much licked, I doubt they are going to risk the same problem again fiddling around with the innards making it even more cramped inside. I definitely think they're going to leave as is. Plus, since when is 'slim' a standard progression? The PS1&2 did it way late in the life cycles and the NES after it was all but dead anyway. There have been multiple dozens of other consoles that didn't 'slim' down.

With the ability to switch out faceplates to whatever you want i don't see why there would be any reason to even do a new color for the 360.

dude, sounds like you like everything boxy and clunky, nothing wrong with that. Look at the evolution of dvd players, nobody in hell wants a boxy, heavy dvd player now a day. Everything is slim and lite... Maybe not the 1st generation, but definitely the 2nd, the 3rd so on... You probably saying this now, but trust me, if MS do make a streamlined X360, you will be drooling all over (well, that depends of course, since we're don't know what's in MS's sleeves).

If my dvr, Onkyo recievers are slimmer, i think i can fit more gadgets in the stand, but no...

The next level is simple. Microsoft wants to make more money. More money comes from ending the life of the 360 eventually and selling you something new.

The "next level" doesn't have to be anything other than "new games over here in the party pool".

Then buy a skin for it. Decalgirl makes full 360 skins for like 20$ in a multitude of colors and designs. Hell, you can even come up with your own art and they will put it in a customized decal just for you.

not saying your logic is flawed or anything. Well, if something works better, i upgrade, like the DS Lite and PSP Slim. If the streamlined X360 is better in terms of size, reliability and price, hell, i upgrade in a heartbeat. Of course you can still play dvds with your cluncky dvd players, nothing wrong with that... I prefer newer stuffs that's all.

hell, nothing is free now a day. Upgrade implies better, but i guess some times you don't get that... Streamlined products, the 2nd or 3rd generation, should be cheaper than the original (usually better, but not necessarily true).

I always felt their saying "The Xbox is tooooo big" was just a cop-out excuse. They don't really care how big the console is. They just don't like non-Japanese games and consoles.



Seeing the "next level" is easy. Graphics are always evolving. Sure, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gears of War may look really hot today, but 5 years from now they won't look as good.

Remember when Ocarina of Time and Metal Gear Solid 1 came out? People drooled over those awesome graphics. Today they look like shit.

Remember when Metal Gear Solid 2 came out, and it was even more impressive? Wow, Snake's bandanna waves in the wind!! It was awesome, but today it isn't so impressive. Heck, even Metal Gear Solid 3 on the same system vastly trumped the graphics of MGS2. And even the last great PS2 games like MGS3 and God of War don't look so impressive any more.

There will come a day when Xbox360 and PS3 games don't look impressive any more either. Graphics can and will still improve a lot. If you want to see how much graphics can still improve, then look at high quality CG in movies. Console graphics haven't even reached Toy Story level graphics yet.... There is still a ton of room to improve.

That i agree and personally, i don't think the X360 is soooo big. What i'm trying to get at is that there should be a X360 version 2.0 or something. It about time to have a redesign don't you think? My X360 is about 10 months old (minus 2 for the replacement) and i don't see myself in the position changing to another one. However, for those you got it since launch, don't you want a newly designed one? The old one is not gonna last "forever" you know.



If you're referring to Pixar kind of animated game quality graphic then yeah, i hear ya. Other than that, graphics of the current gen is pretty good for the standard and expectation (maybe smoother and faster frames). Think about it, games are games, i don't think the graphic is gonna evolve to a point where you're controlling "real" people, that's freaking scary if you ask me...

Anyhow, even that's true, is MS really ready? Sounds like Sony is more superior in that field than MS.

I'm playing Lost Odyssey right now, and it looks pretty darn good. I assume the coding is a little more limited since it's not total freeform motion, and it's on four disks, but still.
Isn't that the "uncanny valley" argument? A little humanoid is fine, altogether non human is fine, but a very close replica of human is creepy.
I don't think the 360 is too big. I think the power supply could lose some weight, however.
If Automatic Can Opener 1.0 breaks my cans and has a 33% chance of totally crapping out in six months, I am actually more likely to buy Manual Can Opener 2.0 instead of Auto Can Opener 2.0.
I probably wouldn't spend a large amount of money to "upgrade" a device that is functionally the same--I'd rather spend that money on another device and get some variety. I personally don't really care about colors or skins or faceplates or merely cosmetic stuff like that.
Maybe the next "evolution" is where the console doesn't even come with a disk drive, it's all DD......*shiver* I hope not.

rotfl How is that exactly? The almighty PS3 that was supposed to be 10x as powerful as the 360 only ended up being 1.1x more powerful. Oh and the PS2 that could render Toy Story in real-time. Yeah, they're way ahead of the curve. They make great games but come on, they talk a whole lot bigger game than they bring.
