XBox 360 HD stolen - can someone please assist

I came home from work today and found that the HD from my 360 was removed and missing. I called XBox support, but they were less than helpful.

Is my gamertag info stored on the HD itself? If so, could someone please see if they see my gamertag currently online?

I am at a loss with this, and I don't even want to think about the $$ lost if this HD is not recovered.

Right now the only people in my house while I was gone was the construction people remodeling my kitchen.

My Yahoo messenger is on if someone can assist me.

Sorry to hear this man. I just looked and ZombieReign isn't online. It says it was last only yesterday(Monday).

I sent a "Friends Request" to see what happens.

fumanstan 01-28-08 08:40 PM

Wow, someone only took the hard drive and nothing else?

A-aron 01-28-08 08:42 PM

giantrobo - thanks

fumanstan - i know, so damn odd that the only thing I see missing is that HD .. but it isn't like it would have just fallen off.

Shakedown!

A-aron 01-28-08 08:45 PM

what could they even do with just the HD? It isn't like they could play the games I downloaded, right? Isn't that tied between the console and HD?

lordzeppelin 01-28-08 08:46 PM

Clearly someone working for the contractor isn't too bright...

Giantrobo 01-28-08 08:47 PM

Not to freak you out but isn't your CC and other info for LIVE on there or is that held on MS's servers?

A-aron 01-28-08 08:47 PM

by all accounts there were only 3 people here today doing floor work ...

Giantrobo 01-28-08 08:48 PM

Did they leave a door open? You know how doors are left open during work like that.

---

I have to go out now but I'll keep looking when I go on LIVE later. I'm sure I'll go on at some point between late this evening and tomorrow morning.

I don't know ... M$ help(less)desk claimed that they could not access their database to see if they had a record of all my downloads and my account info.

But to just take the HD? Doesn't make sense when the Wii was sitting on the side table right next to the TV. And all of the games on the rack there too.

Kicker_of_Elves 01-28-08 09:14 PM

Call the police. Let them deal with the asshat construction workers who probably stole your hard drive.

I doubt they will do anything.

sniper308 01-28-08 09:43 PM

Yeah, you'd think most likely the person who took it would already have an HD, but most likely with a 360 that RROD. I would have expected that they would take the 360 and leave the HD behind (j/k as I own a 360 that RROD previously) :D

The only other case I can think of is someone got a 360 Arcade version for Christmas, and decided to upgrade free of charge.

SteelgearX 01-28-08 09:48 PM

Get the CSI's on it. I'm sure there's semen near your 360 you've overlooked.

aktick 01-28-08 10:07 PM

I haven't seen anybody else mention this, but I think a SHAKEDOWN is in order!

Was it "just" the 20gb HD, or the 120gb? I don't suppose MS has the ability to see the serial # on the HD when a person is online?

Chris_D 01-28-08 10:46 PM

Sounds like you should definitely get the MS CS to change your password. I'm surprised they didn't offer to do this already after hearing your story.

daddydaryl 01-28-08 10:49 PM

Just checked and you were seen playing Pinball FX on 1/28.... no achievements.....

Good idea about the shakedown!

rocketsauce 01-28-08 10:59 PM

have you tried any of these?

-initial adjustments to improve the functioning or the efficiency and to bring to a more satisfactory state; "the new industry's economic shakedown"
-a very thorough search of a person or a place; "a shakedown by the police uncovered the drugs"
-intended to test a new system under operating conditions and to familiarize the operators with the system; "a shakedown cruise"
-extortion of money (as by blackmail)

I believe the kids are calling it a "shakedown" of sorts?!?!

eatntae 01-28-08 11:38 PM

If you have a friend with a 360, recover your gamertag on his system. That way, if the guy that took your HD tries to log on and buy/spend points, he won't be able to without recovering the gamertag back unless he knows your Live email account and password.

At least I think that's how it works.

Did someone feed their Mogwai after midnight?
