Haha, looks likes a slight backlash there, but I agree with you ;).

You guys can't take two seconds to read a post and discern that it's a hard drive that's being spoken about? Geez!

Music 02-01-08 06:50 PM

Who calls a hard drive a hard disk drive anymore?.... so no.... hd it is.

Chris_D 02-02-08 03:24 AM

It was all good back before we had High Def tvs, in which case when someone occasionally dropped the D from HDD it rarely caused a misunderstanding. But now HD is such a common topic, and with 2 of the 3 consoles being equipped with HDDs then you often get overlap of the two acronyms in the same post. So yeah, I do find it irritating.

But sure, I don't expect any DVDTalk posters to correct their ways on my account. Still I think some of the responses to Ocelot's reasonably worded request were a bit off in what is normally a super polite and respectful community.

I think there's a bit of "Ocelot history" at work here.

I know what you mean but forgive and forget right ;).

In other threads I would understand possible confusion .. Such as BB and BBV, but the title of this thread is "Xbox 360 HD stolen" so it wouldn't make sense if it was "Xbox high def stolen"

HD is used to abbreviate HD-DVD as well. So it could have meant the HD-DVD drive. ;)

Was it you I jumped on in the BB vs. BBV confusion?

Yeah, that's what is happening Chris (and Ocelot). We're mainly just having fun, and I do feel a little guilty about my comment, but Ocelot has made same unreasonable requests in recent days (in more than just this thread), and forum frustration with him(?) was inevitable.

Back on topic sort of, are there ever any deals on a 120g hd? I'm getting tired of constantly deleting demos and the like. I'm getting an elite eventually, but it may be awhile, and I think I'll end up keeping both 360s anyway, so I'll want the larger drive.

Haven't seen any deals on them from a store. You can probably get a new one on ebay for a little bit less than in store. I just checked and saw some at 140+10 shipping, and less for a used one.

I asked for one for XMas and migrated everything over. I then went back on the old HD(D) and redownloaded all the RB DLC. That way when I'm going out to various gatherings, I can just bring the HD(D) and my memory card and be set with DLC without having to redownload it all.

Great idea for using my soon to be old HD. But why do you need the HD and your memory card? Can't your gamertag and everything else be just on the 20g?

I move around a lot, so having my tag on a memory card allows me to never have to recover. That can take upwards of an hour.

Wow, an hour. I don't move around much, and probably don't understand exactly how the gamertag functions work. I would have thought that you could log in off the gamertag on your 20g and not need a memory card as well.

I only travel to my nephews and back, and put my gamertag on his HD the day he bought it. Now I can log in at his place or mine and never have to deal w/ memory cards or gt recovery.

Couldn't you just leave your gamertag on the HDs of the friends you frequent?

A gamertag can only be in one place at a time. I had my tag on my friend's box as well before we got memory cards, and every time I'd go over and try to get on Live, it would see that my tag was out of date, and make me do a recovery. Recovery entails redownloading of all of your achievements, as well as the rights to everything you've ever downloaded. It shouldn't take that long as my tag is only 14 megs, but I guess it has to do a pretty hefty DRM check for each item I've dl'd.

Doh! You'd think I would know that by now. I guess I don't fully sign in all that often when I go to his place.

I know that my GT is there, and his 360 defaults to it. So everytime he plays (not all that often), he has to log out of mine and log into his. He's never mentioned it taking awhile or doing the recovery thing, perhaps I'm still clueless here.....

Just an idiot with no skills of observation actually.

It wasn't my gamertag on his 360, but my profile name. I've been using the same nickname for all gaming for like 30 years, and it is so ingrained in me that I sometimes think of it as my name(which is my gamertag). Sorry for the silly derail, nothing to see here, carry on.
