I think it's a percentage. I upgraded to a 320GB and had ~300 free after that.

Just picked up a ps3 a few months ago. Bought Viking and Condemned 2 at the gamecrazy sale. Also have CoD4, which I have been playing quite a bit lately. Amazing online gameplay.

My PSN name is Mwestep, for anybody who wants to add me as a friend.

That's about what you would have gotten using it as a PC drive.

Good luck with that... I searched and searched, and could only find used 60GBs in the $450-500 range. Everyone knows it is superior to the 40GB, and they exploit that big time in the pricing. I gave up and got the 40GB.

Add me to the 'obtained' list, I picked up a used 60GB unit today at a local GameStop. Mainly I wanted a Blu-ray player, but will play non-crossover games on the PS3. I already owned Resistance: Fall of Man so hopefully I can find my save game file, and finish it.

I'm thinking of picking up Eye of Judgement, Motorstorm, and Warhawk. Not necessarily in that order though.

How big are the update files, would a 2g usb thumb drive be big enough?

Why is the 60g better than the 40g? I thought the 40g did software support for PS2 games (90%), the 60 did hardware support (75%) and the new 80g did NO support.

I would be using it mainly as a blu-ray player. I don't play many PS2 games.
I finished GTA 3, I hated GTA3 vice & San A. I probably would rent GTA4 1st.
I would get the Lego games until they start to stink or get too far out there.
So far there is no PS3 game that says buy me!

IIRC

40 GB = no support
80 GB = software support (90%)
60 GB = hardware support (100%)

The 60GB isn't 100%, IIRC, but damn close. Something like 97%. None of the PS2 Guitar Hero games work on the PS3.

Nice video of the new PS store. It looks pretty awesome. They also verify in this article that firmware 2.3 will be out probably by the 17th, if not on that date, and will include the store and, surprise, DTS:MA.

I thought they work, but the controller adapters (for plugging in the PS2 guitar) don't?

They work and with the USB adaptor they are playable. The whammy bar doesn't work, but everything else seems to be fine.

BTW, I know we are all excited about the DTS MA update, but the new store looks pretty nice as well. No more web based crap. I actually like it more than the 360 store after watching the demo video.

which version did they just release?
I thought it was the 80g with no support. Now it looks like it was the 40g they just released.. Sony really has me all messed up!!

Also when you are talking about updates to DTS & ver. 2 of Blu-ray, do the updates effect the 40g, 60g and 80g the same. Or is 1 going to be better than the other due to hardware?
Cause if the 40g has better hardware inside for blu-ray & sound upgrades, thats the one I want. I'll just have to keep my old dusty PS2.

The US will also get the special Metal Gear Bundle with the Gunmetal PS3. No word on pricing or how many we will get. "Lair" is getting an update and in it the game will finally be playable via analog control.

Have to admit the gunmetal looks cool, but it is a 40GB so I'm not interested.

I would like to try Lair with analog control. Wonder what this game sells for used?

Picked up the Godfather Don's Edition on clearance at Target for $15 and noticed a lot of games there like Genji, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and lots of the 07 sports titles for $15 as well. These Target things are very random and it is definitely a YMMV situation, but I thought I would mention it. Godfather is really good for a PS2 port and will tide me over until I get GTA IV.

The US isn't getting the Gunmetal PS3. That's a 40GB model for Japan. Our MGS bundle includes the 80GB and I'm pretty sure it's just the regular black model.

The official Playstation blog disagrees. Read the bottom. We are getting the gunmetal PS3 in addition to the 80GB bundle with a regular PS3.

The 40 and 80 came out at the same time, as far as i remember.

You're right. I didn't see the updated post at the blog. The images are blocked from the PC I'm at right now. It looks like there are 2 MGS bundles. The limited edition is the only one that has the gunmetal finish, I think. I'm using Best Buy's PRP to replace my 20GB with the bundle, and I'll probably just get the regular edition. I'm sure the Limited Editions will sell out pretty quick.

The 80 gig came out some months before the 40 gig. Also the 60 gig that launched in Europe before then is the same hardware configuration as the 80 gig apart from the 20 gig less HDD space.

So it's been around for a while.

So anyone that actually bought and suffered through Lair: will it get any better with regular controls? Seems to be on clearance at Target for 30 bucks, possibly because of a greatest hits version coming soon...
