For me it's not that those bands are subpar, it's that with all of the bands that aren't in the game it's a little frustrating that we keep getting music from bands that are already in the game. The Police are pretty well represented at this point.

Supermallet 02-12-08 12:33 AM

Right, but we have to assume it's easier for them to get the rights to songs by bands that are already participating than it is to get bands that aren't already represented. So the inclusion of several songs by the same artist makes sense to me.

Michael Corvin 02-12-08 01:12 AM

But the Police? Again? They're nearing a full album worth of songs.

Coupled with the fact that we know they are still sitting on Nirvana and the Who albums makes it even more annoying.

I'm not saying the bands are subpar (though I'm not a big Ramones fan) ; I just don't care for the song choices in the past few weeks. I feel like a lot of the songs just can't be very fun, since I don't enjoy the song to begin with.

These songs can also be bought in a 3-song pack for $5.49 (440 Microsoft points)

:suicide:

Definitely the first week I'm not making a purchase. I've said that before and ended up relenting, but I despise all three bands.

Ah well. Hopefully next week's will be better.

I think this is a real issue. Even the proposed March DLC is all stuff from bands we already have. I was kinda hoping they'd move away from the same bands in the game, but at the same time I kinda understand it, you have to assume really big fans of those bands are buying the game, so there's a built-in market.

But, like the Police song, most Police fans I know have no idea what that song is. I guess you could say I'm kinda a pop whore, but when I have friends over to play, I want to have as many well-known songs as possible to play, cause that's what people want to play.

Out of the 10 bands in the tentative March DLC, 4 of the 10 haven't been featured on Rock Band before.

Touche, but still, that's not an impressive amount.

...and out of those four, three are from little known thrash metal bands that most people won't have any interest in.

So for March, 1 out of 10 are from popular artists that haven't been featured before.

I'm more of a classic rock fan than newer rock, but I'm surprised they don't have more music from the mid-90s-present represented yet. There's Foo Fighters, Black Crowes, QotSA...? It just seems like there are a LOT of bands from the last 10 years or so with two or three popular (whether "good" or not is open to interpretation :p ) songs that they could throw in there. And you'd think those bands would be more willing to have their songs in the game than a great classic rock band.

What about the Rolling Stones? They've had what, 3 songs in all these guitar games? So they are clearly willing to have their music in the game, and they have a huge catalog to choose from.

And how about all the GH1 and GH2 songs? I think we've gotten a few of those (Black Sabbath, The Police I think?)...I'd like to see more of those, GH1 songs in particular. I thought Harmonix had the rights to all of those?

I'm all for a variety of music, as I know everybody has different tastes, but it seems like they should have a lot more options than they are showing us so far.

I agree with pretty much everything said here. GH1 is a goldmine waiting to happen, especially for those of us who started with GHII on the 360. I would download "More Than A Feeling" no questions asked.

Shagrath 02-12-08 08:50 AM

Keep in mind that Harmonix said there would be over 200 songs this year. That calculates out to 3.84 songs a week. Now, we know they've only had three songs a week so far this year, and March seems to mirror that fact as well. I think we'll see a lot more DLC being released later on this year, maybe with more varied bands.

I haven't been excited in the least for the last two weeks of DLC, but March looks great to me! Hopefully they'll release something decent this month, so I can give them some more of my money.

EDIT: Also, speculation for them putting out the same artists for DLC a lot is due to them getting rights to a lot of this DLC during main game development. They probably already had the rights and have been working on this for a while or something. As time goes on, things will get bigger and more varied.

I've had Rock Band since it came out, but I'd been busy with drums and vocals (not too mention other games) so I never really got around to playing the guitar.

Well I finally decide to blow through Medium last night. Within 10 minutes, my Overdrive was engaging automatically. I can hear something rattling inside the guitar, which I assume it the sensor. Just requested a replacement.

I really wish I could use my GHIII controller, but alas I have the PS3 versions. Hopefully my drums won't break as well.

Had a hell of a lot of fun trying to get through the bass of Number of the Beast on Hard. Almost had it until the post-solo section.

Shagrath 02-12-08 10:00 AM

DLC post has been updated with videos. Don't have tiering yet. If anyone picked up the songs, can you PM that info to me if it's not too much trouble?

Can't wait for the Nirvana album, but looking most forward to the 18 promised Grateful Dead songs.

I have that same rattling, like there's a loose piece in the guitar, from day one. It hasn't affected my play.. yet.

So out of that 200 we have the following announced:

18 - Greatful Dead
16 - the Who: Who's Next
12 - Nirvana: Nevermind
12 - March's list
============
58

That leaves 142 for the year. Anyone want to place bets on how many of those are Police songs? I'm going to say 14 more.

Hm...I have the rattling as well. And I also get the Auto-Overdrive from time to time but I never connected the two.

Guess I need to replace the guitar? Is that right?

I should have my replacement Thursday, so I'll report my experience.

I'm with you - the Grateful Dead cuts can't make it here soon enough.

The original release of Who's Next only had 9 tracks, one of which we already have (Won't Get fooled Again) so i doubt they will be charging for it.

Not a huge Dead fan (bring on some Phish/Umphrey's McGee) but i will still jusm all over it just becasue the songs are fun. The 18 songs will likely me the poppier stuff like Sugar Magnolia, Uncle Johns Band, Touch of Grey, ect.

xmiyux 02-12-08 01:40 PM

I imagine you will also see Truckin and Friend of the Devil if they are releasing individual tracks. If they release a single album i imagine it will be something like American Beauty.

In my book it doesn't get a whole lot better than the Dead.

Spiderbite 02-12-08 01:50 PM

I hate the Dead...but even I have to admit that their songs will likely be a lot of fun to play on Rock Band.
