I think what people are having the most success with is Gum Rubber pads. I bought some from someone on RockBand.com that had some extra material and they seem to work great.

DLC Post (#2) has been fully updated with this week's info.

They do keep the stick up a little higher, so I don't smack the rim quite as often.

Mostly it muffles the thwack. Which is a big help, especially when you go back to seeing what it's like without them.

YAY! Five starred all medium drums last night.

Yeah, I beat that one a while back :) It catches people off guard when we play sandman online and I can hit most of the tricky stuff :) The two ones that gave me the most trouble were Next to You and Run to the Hills. I think I have the top score on Run to the Hills for my friends list too :)

And I absolutely LOVE playing Won't get fooled again for some reason.

And last night had GGAHT as a score battle song - it was neck and neck all the way, then the quick part started and my opponent just fell apart while I was still nailing Overdrive and getting massive points. It was nice, and only one quitter last night. :)

Snapped my bass pedal this morning during an enthusiastic run through Main Offender on Expert drums. I submitted my replacement request right after it happened using EA's site. It was really easy and I've already got a tracking number which indicates that they're using UPS 2nd Day Air. So, thumbs down for the flimsy equipment, but thumbs up for their easy replacement process.

Thanks for the update - and for saving me 6 bucks this week.

Damn those songs are boring...let's get some exciting stuff going, Rock Band elves!

lordwow 02-05-08 02:40 PM

Ya, the songs this week are not great at all on guitar.

Hokeyboy 02-05-08 04:04 PM

Well, we did it.

Last Saturday, my girlfriend and I sat down to do the Endless Setlist. On Expert. She handled the vocals and after careful deliberation I decided to play bass instead of guitar (we weren't trying to high score, we just wanted to finish).

Took 5 hours (pausing the game for bio breaks and an occasional nosh) and she only got tripped up on a few crappy-ass Harmonix songs she never heard or we never played before (If I never hear another Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives song again, it will be too soon), but in the process she managed to unlock Flawless Singing (on Vasoline) and me, while not even trying to attempt the up-strum-only flawless mode, I acquitted myself rather nicely ("Green Grass and High Tides", pain in the ass that it is, is INCREDIBLY fun to play on bass).

5 freakin' hours. I expected a South Park/Guitar Hero-style ending in which the game would call us total lifeless loser automatons, but screw it, we're Platinum Recording artists now! Ride my coattails, Tommy "The Turd" Rosetti!

I'll echo that opinion as well as add that the expert drum tracks are pretty stale. The vocals for Roam would be fun if the song was not lso repetitive and onger than it should be.

Shagrath 02-05-08 07:18 PM

Congrats, Matt! Always good to have a couple more platinum artists in our ranks. I've got two of my characters platinum now (Guitar/Bass and Vocals). I don't think I'll ever get platinum on drums.

So Endless mode actually takes hours upon hours to defeat?

It's a 58 song setlist. So, yes, it will take about 5 to 6 hours of straight playing to finish.

Michael Corvin 02-05-08 08:23 PM

Picked up Calling Dr. Love. Not terribly hard but more Kiss is always a good thing. It's still fun to play.

Anyone know if they are going to fix ranked online battles so that people can't just quit anytime they want without any consequences? It's nearly impossible to play this game online since kids get their ass kicked and just quit on me every time. I highly doubt I'm getting credit for a win, and I know they do not get a loss. I've been able to win 3 matches tonight out of over 12 tries. My recently played list is full of people who I avoided and filed complaints against...stupid kids. This is why online gaming sucks...

Yeah, unfortunately I'm getting awfully tired of this too.

If they had some kind of achievement = "Total Pussy" for ducking out of 5 matches, "Major Pussy" for 10, and "Big Fat Freakin' Wusswagon Douchebag" for more than 20, I think people would be a bit more hesitant lol.

discostu1337 02-05-08 09:00 PM

that would make it worse, and then i would have to quit on people to get those achievements :)

They should make it that if you back out of 2 matches, your banned for 24hrs from playing ranked or something.

Thanks!! I could do Platinum again on Guitar, but not drums for sure. Not so sure about vocals. That'd certainly be a challenge.

Later that night we also unlocked One Million Fans. Now we want to do all the cities, have four of them and a bunch to go. I gotta give Harmonix credit. This game is insane batshit addictive. Much moreso than Choplifter!

Unfortunately, then all the achievement whores would all be TRYING to do that.

Well, from the other perspective, there's also impatient rude jackasses on the other side who chase people away (this is not in any way a swipe at anyone here, unless this was you last night).
Got my wife a 3-month Gold membership. She went online to try a couple Tugs of War. Apparently either my headset, or the guitar, or something is messed up, (and admittedly I don't chat all that much--I don't play online lots, and I don't feel like listening to random losers curse) because she couldn't hear anything through the headset, and there was apparently lots of feedback on the other side, because the jackass she was playing against started yelling "Holy shit! Feedback! Cut that shit out or I'll hunt you down and kill you!" Yeah, she quit that match. Reminds me--I need to go submit a complaint.
Anyway, I personally do not quit on regular matches, even if I'm getting my ass kicked, it's what, five minutes, I can stick it out. And like baseball, in many cases it can only take one missed note or one judicious use of overdrive to change the results of the match.

Not if those showed up when you were searching for someone for a ranked match with the immediate option to find someone else if they have said achievements.

Also, someone with over 20 would be unable to play ranked for 3 months. MOO HAH!

cartman 02-05-08 09:33 PM

I'd love to make my drummer platinum (I can drudge through The Who with a lot of overpower help from bandmates  ), but none of my friends are able to play expert :(. I so want the online BWT to come about.

Liver&Onions 02-05-08 09:34 PM

So far I've only encountered 2 quitters when playing online and I've done a fair amount of tug o war and score duel. Perhaps it's because I'm doing drums, meaning the 14 year old douche can't afford the drum set and just bought the game for guitar?
