Oh, so people with the game already will get a download for the enhancements? I debated waiting for it but May is a bit too far to wait for what is basically the same game.

Has anyone had luck getting this game to run well on Vista 32bit? It crashes on too often. I found this thread and I'm going to try some of them out tonight. Are there any in particular I should try? I already have the 1.2 patch and Vista is up-to-date.

Solo RPGs for the PC are my life. My whole life, I tell ya. Especially the big, open-ended ones with hundreds of hours of gameplay. I stick with them for years.
But I'm thinking the fratboy lechery in this one is too much for me. The notion of "collecting" come-hither trophy cards for every woman I fuck is pretty juvenile and repellant. If they'd treated both sexes equally I could perhaps have stomached it, but I've had enough imposed-hetero values in my life already.
Am I making a mountain out of a molehill?

How does everyone manage their inventory? I'm still pretty early in the game and have already filled up. Do you all store stuff at inns? Or am I carrying too much useless crap? I'm not far enough in to know what's useless and what's useful.

I plan on picking this up next.
I'm currently playing my way through the single player Hellgate:London. I haven't played PC games in a long time and am having a blast getting back into them. I jumped on a Best Buy pc deal a couple weeks ago for a nice gaming system.

With the costs of solid gaming rigs dropping like a rock, I imagine PC gaming may actually win back some long missing appeal.
Now if only they could handle the piracy issue without completely screwing the pooch.

Been playing this game the last couple weeks and I am really enjoying it. I'm only on the third act but I am beefing my character up and kicking major ass.
As for the inventory, I'm selling all my crap I can pick more of it some other time.

I'm enjoying the game too. I'm in Chapter 2 trying to shorten my quest list which has gotten huge. I'm spending a lot of time in the swamp area currently.
Has anyone done the quest Uncommon Wine? The stuff you have to fight in the house is way stronger than I am. I can't take the life of one of them down even a quarter of the way before I die.

I've tried both swords and one of my other weapons. I had been using the group technique since there's 4-5 of them. Maybe the strong stance would be better. I'm sure I'll try it again tonight.

NO problem with witchers on 32bit VISTA
picked up this game after taking a liking to
"the elder scrolls" New tower, XPS420 - Game runs like a champ on vista prem 32bit, although (2) dualcore 3.00mhz and 3gig ram helps alot!! Well,... if your going to game or rip, get a gutsy tower. Picked up new expert trackball mouse - a bit to get use to, but WOW, what a difference!! I like. Tried several controllers, but trackball mouse and keyboard seem to work best. Only thing I don't like in game is how you attack with bladed weapons(should be click and swing or combo for special moves). Ohter than that, So far this game rocks.

Well, I finally finished it. I got sidetracked from playing it a few months back when I had to go out of town, and then some other games came out that I started playing. I decided it was time to finish it though, since I had left off toward the end of Chapter 4. The decisions you make in The Witcher do seem to have more of an effect on later outcomes in the game, than other similar games have recently. I don't know how much they would have affected the ending, but after the big patch comes out, I might play through again, and make different decisions to find out.
Actually, I think I might play the ending again tonight. They implied something with one of the characters, and I want to see if changing a few decisions toward the end affects that.
Overall, it was a good game, a lot of fun, and seems like one that will be fun to play through again to try different things. My only complaint, is that it could have used some more polish. I’m interested to see how much their upcoming patch will improve the game. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good RPG on the PC.

Yeah, another reason I didn't play as much for a while, was waiting for the patch. Then they delayed it to August, I think. I figured I was already pretty far in, and not sure if my saves would be compatible after the patch, so I decided to go ahead and finish it.

Re: The Witcher (PC) - any good?
I started playing the Witcher because I was desperate for a new RPG game with some magic and monster content after trawling through the pretty fantastic Oblivion. Yes, the frequent crashes on Vista are pretty annoying, but I have learned to save often so it's not so bad. The sex content comes as a bit of a shock at first....but then you think well, why not? Adds realism, etc but what next? taking your character to the gents or the ladies? (they do spend a lot of time in the pubs....). As a female rpg player, I do prefer to play female characters, but in The Witcher's case, the riveting story line overrides any problem with gender. And, yes I do let Geralt have his way with the ladies occassionally. Man's gotta do what a man's gotta do! I am doing as many side quests as possible trying not to trigger a new chapter till I've done them all, but I got Dandelion's lute by going into the merchant's house first. Now I can't find Dandelion. Will I be able to finish the quest?
Also, I saved just before the party at Shani's and took Carmen first then reloaded and took Siegfried. Hmmm! He took quite a shine to Shani and I will have considered carefully who Geralt will hook up with later (if there is and option to marry him off later in the game) As for a recommendation: Yes, definitely. It's a fantastic game (though I am sick of killing drowners and the RAIN): pretty scenery, good acting, good fights, deep and absorbing, very grown up. Not so good points: the shopping was better in Oblivion!

Re: The Witcher (PC) - any good?
It sounds like your new pc will be able to handle it easily. I have so far steered clear of SLI but I think any problems with SLI should have been ironed out by now, so maybe my next graphics upgrade will be SLI. The crashes are definitely not a pc problem. If you check on line, you will ses many posts suggesting that it is a problem with the game. On my PC (VISTA 32bit, nVidia 8800GTX, 4GB RAM), the game load times are good, but I do advise you to SAVE often. The crashes usually occur when you have been playing for about 2 hours, then you try to save and find your map has gone black and you can't save (ie: saving causes the crash to desktop) If you save frequently in the first 2 hours of play, you will find you haven't lost much if you have to reload. But it is a very good game.

Witcher 1.5 enhanced edition announced
While this hasn't been announced at E3, we did get word this morning of a new version of The Witcher. This 1.5 version will include everything from the Enhanced Edition of The Witcher, plus another five fan-made adventures. The big thing here, though, is they've dropped all their DRM and have even removed the disc check so you don't need to have the DVD in-drive in order to play the game.
This outreach of trust to the fans is nice to hear about. For all of you with copies of The Witcher, the game will automatically patch in all this once it's released (no date on that yet), so look forward to seeing that! The press release is after the jump for all of you who are interested.
CD Projekt RED is pleased to announce the upcoming release of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition 1.5!
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition 1.5 is the newest version of the game, including all bonus content from The Witcher: Enhanced Edition and five additional fan-made adventures. Most importantly, The Witcher: Enhanced Edition 1.5 is completely DRM-free! Playing The Witcher will be even more fun without any form of annoying copy protection. Moreover, the 1.5 version of The Witcher will remove the disc check, allowing you to play the game without the DVD in the drive.
All available versions of the game will be upgraded to 1.5, including the forthcoming The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut for North American gamers.
As usual the patch containing the additional content will be available to download for free from our website for all registered The Witcher and The Witcher: Enhanced Edition owners!
More detailed information will be released on our website (http://www.thewitcher.com) as well as on our Press Centre (http://press.cdprojektred.com) in the coming weeks.

I have yet to buy this but I'll probably end up getting it when this new version gets released.

Awesome. After that patch comes out, I may need to play through The Witcher again. I played the original, before the enhanced patch, and thought it was great. These additions give me a reason to play through it again.

Re: The Witcher (PC) - any good?
I just installed the steam version of this game on my windows 7 64 bit computer. I downloaded the latest patch. But when I went to install the patch it came up with an error message saying its not compatible with my version. Do I need to download something to make it compatible? I also tried installing under run as administrator but still nothing
