It's one of those games that I just don't care much for, but I can see why it's very popular. I don't know how to describe it, but there are lots of games that I just don't like, but I don't dismiss them as total crap. Sometimes I can see that it's just not my cup of tea, but recognize the fact that a lot of people out there are going to love it.
I really liked the first Metroid game. I got my $50 out of it, but I got stuck at a certain boss and just got frustrated and never played it again. I didn't play the second Prime at all. I think I read that it was actually more challenging the first so I didn't bother.
So I would give Metroid Prime 3 a 6.5/10. I don't think it's a bad game, I just couldn't get into it for some reason. I thought the controls were still a bit gimmicky, as if they designed the game around the fact that they have to work the Wii's control scheme into it (opening a door by holding a button, thrusting, turning and pulling? What's the point?) When I play the game, I just think, "How is this any better than using one control stick to move and another to look?" Maybe I'll try to pick it back up and see if I can get more out of it.
I can't decide if this would make me a horrible video game reviewer or a good one. I'm either very objective in that I don't dismiss a game as crap because I can't get into it or I can't see what others see in a good game.

Mass Effect. It was a step back in practically every way from Knights of the Old Republic, and Bioware hyped it up far too much for what they could actually deliver. Reminds me of Fable in that regard.

Alrighty...Here's my list.
Mass Effect - Don't get me wrong, I loved the game, but it was nowhere near what we were promised.
Assassins Creed - After playing it, there is no way it lives up to the hype. But not only that, when I see some of these positive reviews for it, I'm left scratching my head.
BioShock - Yes, it had great art design, but the overall gameplay, I felt was severely lacking and I just don't see what was so great about it.
These threads are always about opinions and that's mine.

Considering I haven't played a dud of a game this year, I don't have a pick. I purposely avoided games like Assassin's Creed, because I thought the hype was matching what I saw. If I had to pick a game that I suspect is overrated based on word of mouth and what I've read, it would probably be either Halo 3, Resistance (I think that's the PS3 shooter) or Assassin's Creed.

I didn't have a game for this list. Most of the hyped stuff I played like Bioshock, Orange Box and Mario Galaxy more than lived up to expectations and prerelease hype.
Then I played the unpolished mess that is Assassin's Creed and I now have my overhyped game of the year. I wouldn't call it a bad game, but it is extremely repetitive and unnecessarily tedious at times. It looks like a game that could have been very good if not rushed out for the holiday season. The story, pacing and controls also could have used a bit more work. Considering the hype that proceeded it this game in no way lived up to those expectations for me.

Your character is somewhere between a human and super-hero in the abilities department and you play a good guy to boot. Nice change of pace.
I found it 10x more appealing and fun than any of the GTAs.

The "twist and push"-type of stuff is definitely gimmicky, but the aiming is top notch.

I'm not sure if this fits here, but I played and enjoyed the demo for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on Live, so decided I'd pick up the game but couldn't decide which version. Most of the reviews I read indicated the Wii version was the most fun version due to using the Wiimote to cast spells so I got that one. I found the spell casting to actually be annoying with the Wiimote, and the game just seemed a *lot* less fun than it did on the 360 because of it.
On a somewhat overrated note, I enjoyed Metroid Prime 3 but it's just missing something. The controls are great, and it has some killer boss battles, but for reason it just hasn't grabbed my attention. I have it half completed and have since moved on, first to Bioshock, then Halo 3, and now Super Mario Galaxy. I'm sure I'll go back and finish it at some point, but I'm just in no hurry to do so.
