Thanks. Do I even need memory cards then? Assuming I don't want my saves to be portable, can I just save them to the HD

Also for those that have a PS3 and PSP, how is the connectivity? Is there any content for both or are they pretty much independent?

There are PS1 games for sale in the PS Store (Syphon Filter, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Rally Cross, etc) that are able to be purchased for $5.99 and played on EITHER system, which is kinda cool. Also DL'ed video content (mostly trailers and clips) can be played remotely, but the PS3 must be on and in "Remote Play" mode in order for it to work. In theory, you could use the PS3/PSP as a TIVO/ Slingbox but you can't really do this yet...

You create a virtual memory card on the hard drive for PS2 saves. You can bring over saves from your PS2 memory card but you can't go back.

You can transfer saves back and forth, it was in a firmware update a few months ago.

So you could transfer to the PS3, play the game and resave, then transfer back to use on a PS2?

Or just transfer the original save back and forth?

Yes. I do this all the time with MLB 06 and Disgaea. I was really happy when they activated this feature.

You do the math there.
I suppose that's one way to go LOL.

Honestly though, if I go out and buy it, I will likely just keep it. Rather than deal with the return.

it's just in a normal cardboard box without shinkwrap, whichever one you end up buying has probably been returned anyway. i can't see why you'd ever need to use it more than once, unless you want to transfer back between ps2 and ps3

or go buy one used at GS. If they are $15 new, they are bound to be a couple bucks cheaper used.

I like the new PS3 ads, way better than the previous ones (yeah, anything was better than that baby doll ad they had at launch):

Unless you get something like this that comes with an IR receiver to hook up through USB.

http://www.playmessiah.com/products/...dvd-remote.htm

Can't turn the system on/off with it though.

Yes, the controller (which is wireless) can do anything that the remote can.

Probably. You'll only get 1080p on games through component though (and that's if your TV supports it).

No, you can hook the PS3 up through component, and like the Xbox 360, you can get 1080p if your TV supports it through component (most new 1080p models should). However, neither system will play movies (either upconverted DVD or HD/BD) in 1080p over component due to silly standards.
