I bought Wiiplay and sold the controller to someone at work for $40 - this was back when Wiimotes could still be scarce.

It was worth the $10.

I still think people are more tolerant to average games because of the Achievements when a game may not usually justify a full price purchase. Hell look at CAG, people buy all kinds of shit based on price alone.

"Padded" like say, a company cough MS, cough Sony using shipped numbers on hardware instead of sold numbers? All three companies are guilty and massage the numbers they best see fit.

Perfect Dark Zero's score on GameRankings is 81%. Red Steel pulls in 64.9%. Big difference, since one equates to Above Average/Good while the other is Below Average/Poor.

Irrelevant, since it has nothing to do with corporate numbers or spinning. This has nothing to do with what Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo are saying. It's about individuals on the forum saying or implying that Wii game sales are as strong as the 360. Saying "Look at the Wii game sales totals!" and including Wii Sports and to a lesser extent Wii Play sort of unbalances the whole thing.

I only play with people I know (mostly from forums). If there aren't some friends on to play with, I don't bother. Screaming 12 year old douchebags should be relegated to the enemy team only.

My wife has always played games - she's the one that bullied me into getting the PS2 during the launch craze (she wanted a DVD player anyway). But she sticks with platformers, puzzle games and racing games, all genres I'm not a big fan of. We generally only play SSX, Mario Kart and other party game type fare together.

I like Wii Play better than Sports. laser hockey, tank, and fishing are all more fun than any of the wii sports games. For a game that could be considered to be priced at $10 + a remote it's pretty damn awesome.

I see it more like when they say "Would you like to go large for 30 cents more?" at the theater and you say "Sure, why not?"

WiiPlay aside, WiiSports is sold seperately in Japan and sold phenomenally. IIRC, the best selling Wii title there. That is a legitimate million seller.

The fact remains that there are still six other titles that have sold a million plus copies in the first year of the console's release, with another, RE4 nearing that mark and Metroid sitting at a half a mil and hasn't even launched in the rest of the world. Even more impressive since the Wii is widely considered the shovel-ware system.

Sony is sitting on 2 titles that sold a million in the first year. What did the 360 have? Perfect Dark, COD2, Oblivion, and Dead Rising(any others?). If anything I'd say the Wii is on par with where the 360 was at the end of year one regarding game sales.

In the end, no, Wii game sales aren't better than the 360, but they are very healthy and are pulling in decent numbers.

Those that own both a Wii and a 360/PS3 will probably be swayed by the downloadable content and/or online features on the other 2. I know at least one or two on this forum have stated they will go Wii, but they seem to me to be outside of the norm. So if Michael Corvin is right about GH3 Wii doing as well or better than 360/PS3/PS2 then it will change my impression of the Wiis 3rd party potential somewhat.
I picked up GH3 for the Wii, although it looks like I'm the only one on the forum. I would have gotten it for the 360/PS3 if I had one of those systems. I'll end up getting a PS3 for Xmas though. Still I'm glad I got it on the Wii. Online play seems just fine and there are enough good players to challenge/coop with for me.

I bought a TV this weekend so I spent about 10 minutes at the customer service desk. One of the door guys brought a customer to the returns lane with the comment "we'll we've got another guy with a broken GH3 controller." They had a stack of GH3 360/PS3 returns behind the counter.

Based on the Gamespot review, the PS3 version of GH3 actually doesn't support playing with friends over the net (no friends lists, only random opponents), while the 360 supports friends through live, and the Wii version supports friends codes. I'm sure they'll have to patch something in, but seems pretty crazy they released it that way.

Not really related to the discussion but since we were talking about GH.

I've been on the fence about it, but found one more reason not to. Chat. There are just too many little features that add up on the 360 to warrant getting the Wii version when you own both systems.

I agree, if you own both systems.

What is the realistic possibility of having a working console in two years worth?

Heh, I read the same thing earlier and was wondering if someone was going to point that out. It includes the DS though, which is a beast of it's own.

According to this report, there's only 6 titles that sold 1 million. And this is supposedly from Nintendo themselves.

Nintendo Wii

Wii Sports: 11,860,000 (including hardware bundles)
Wii Play w/Wii Remote: 6,320,000
Mario Party 8: 2,890,000
Super Paper Mario: 1,740,000
Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree: 1,380,000
Mario Strikers Charged: 1,330,000

That list can't be right, because The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess isn't on there. Also, Capcom recently announced that they have shipped over 1 million copies of Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, which would indicate sales are close to, if not at or beyond 1 million units.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me either. Zelda should be well over 1 or 2 million.

Those are only first party titles. A few gaps in that list:

- Zelda: The first few months it had something like a 95% attach rate which would easily make it a million seller. vgchartz has it sitting close to 4 million which with the attach rate is completely believable.

- Wario Ware: again, vgchartz has it sitting at close to 2 million. Again, due to the situation, owners starved for games in Feb, this one sounds reasonable too.

- Rayman and Red Steel: It has also been reported numerous times from numerous outlets that Ubisoft hit it big with Rayman and Red Steel, both sold over the million mark which is also backed up by vgchartz.

Vgchartz has BBA, Mario Strikers and RE4 just under the million mark, with Sonic and Tiger Woods not far behind at .75 million.

I still play on a 360 two years after buying mine without any additional expenditure outside of the warranty.

Lots of Wii Players with codes over at the official guitar hero game.

I'd play online..but 1) I suck, and 2)I am having firewall issues.

I picked it up for the Wii as well, but due to work I haven't had much time to play it single player so online is still not happening. I'm not a big online guy, but may try it at some point.

As far as the sales I will be interested in well. It certainly seems like it sold well on the Wii and I'm betting the sales will be very solid for the Wii version.
