Re: Tim Schafer's new game: Brutal Legend
UPS just arrived with my copy from Amazon. It is now apparent that Eddie Riggs loves TWO things: Metal AND... the environment?
http://img2.yfrog.com/img2/2852/rdap.jpg First time I've seen one of these in an XBOX configuration (or PS3/Wii for that matter) |

Less plastic = more metal?

I don't like how flimsy they are, and the increased probability of damaging or puncturing the slipcover due to zero reinforcement.

Re: Tim Schafer's new game: Brutal Legend
There's another kind that just uses thinner plastic instead of holes in the plastic I've seen on DVD cases. I much prefer that method if it's gotta be done (I'm sure being "green" is nice bullet point to stock holders).
Hey, "Green" XBOX cases. That's funny. |
Re: Tim Schafer's new game: Brutal Legend
You shouldda got the preorder "album" they had at Best Buy -- it was a pretty sweet game case.
Reviews are coming in and still getting good scores, most aren't quite as enthusiastic as IGN (though Destructoid was pretty disappointed). Still don't know about this one... |
Re: Tim Schafer's new game: Brutal Legend
I made the decision to rent it instead of outright buying it. I was just too worried about the length to make the jump on a full purchase. Especially in light of the stuff coming out in the next two weeks. (Borderlands and DJ Hero) It was a tough decision but I'd rather waste $3 finding out how I feel about the complete package than regretting a $50 purchase.

Re: Tim Schafer's new game: Brutal Legend
Hey, where can you rent games for $3? Here we only have Blockbuster and they're like $8 to rent. I know there's also Gamefly, but I have been banned for life from them, so that's out.

Re: Tim Schafer's new game: Brutal Legend
If anyone happens to get the game at Best Buy and isn't going to use their download code for the Rock Band songs, let me know? :)

Re: Tim Schafer's new game: Brutal Legend
Well I just got done beating the game...took about 7 hours on normal with over 20 side missions completed and lots of exploring. I will be mopping up a few things tonight to make room for Borderlands tomorrow!
Overall the game was pretty good, but nothing new or exciting. The RTS style fighting was pretty terrible, and the Deuce controls like ass. Jack Black had some funny moments, and the game kept me entertained. The side missions are variations of the same 2 or 3 things, and then there are some races. I would definitely only rent this game unless you love Jack Black or want to support a decent developer. 7/10. |
Re: Tim Schafer's new game: Brutal Legend
Nevermind then. Seen it done before, but whatever.

Please no begging for free shit in here. If someone offers and has multiples or whatever, that's one thing - but asking for it isn't cool. Sorry.

Re: Tim Schafer's new game: Brutal Legend
Only played a couple of hours, but I'm really enjoying the game so far. The RTS element I could have done without, maybe they should have saved that for the multiplayer only. I loved when Rock of Ages kicked in during the first mission.

Re: Tim Schafer's new game: Brutal Legend
The gameplay isn't going to bring anything new or special. It's barely competent but tolerable. The fun is in the environment and humor. Even the subtle shit like the Employee of the Month badge on that boss.
I was pleasantly surprised by the opening sequence. Watched the credits and saw plenty of voices I can't wait to hear. |
Re: Tim Schafer's new game: Brutal Legend
It's got a bit more RTS in it than I thought it would, as in, I didn't think it would have any (maybe that's why there was a review embargo, so as not to scare people away when they would mention "RTS elements"), but it's not so bad that it ruins the game - but I still feel kinda duped.
Oh, and... Spoiler:

Enjoying the game, but I am running into the same issues some folks have mentioned here. However, I think pinata summed up my feelings perfectly. While there are some areas that really need work, the surroundings and atmosphere more than make up for any issues I've encountered thus far. |
Re: Tim Schafer's new game: Brutal Legend
If you guys have a Schnucks grocery store around they also have cheap game rentals and rent one get one free on weekends.

Re: Tim Schafer's new game: Brutal Legend
I'm about two hours in at this point and I'm really enjoying it. Leading the headbanger army definitely gave me a Pikmin vibe, which is never a bad thing. The settings and humor are perfect, at least so far, and I don't really have any complaints about the game yet.
