The think with SR1 though was that I couldn't get into it at all because it was so "gangsta". In SR2 they've dialed that back a lot, and what there is, is pretty much a parody and mockery of that culture.

Great game!
I got this achievement tonight, my dude was wailing "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger. I also happened across a gas station restroom and played Ho-ing mini-game I moved the right stick till I hit the 'sweet' spot, hold it there then 'thrust' the left stick in time with the directional arrows. The commentary was great. "So this is what I miss watching anime all day", and "I'm so posting this on my blog."

I wonder if he only sings along to the 80's tunes? I saw on Gamefaqs someone posted that their character sang along to "Take On Me."

This game is everything I wished GTA IV was going to be...

Top 10 Reasons why this game is better than Grand Theft Auto IV:

1. I can get a katana sword... seriously a katana right in the beginning
2. I can dual wield pistols.
3. Car controls are sooo much better.
4. Aiming and firing controls are sooo much better.
5. I can buy property.
6. Tons of fun side missions -- I love the celebrity bodyguard missions.
7. You can get uber-fancy cars right off the bat by being at the right place.
8. This game doesn't take itself as seriously as GTA and is much funnier.
9. Can customize everything. Yourself, your crib, and your ride.
10. You can play the entire game naked. That's right naked.

I agree, this game is more fun then GTA IV. I think GTA IV was more polished, and better, but this game delivers on the fun meter.

I have it at home but haven't popped it in yet - too hooked with MLB 08 still.

I didn't have a problem with the driving in GTA IV, but all the other stuff Popcorn listed sounds great. I was starting to wonder if I made a mistake buying it so quick, but now I think I'll make sure I start it tonight.

This game reminds me of GTA: San Andreas and in my book that's a good thing. Much lighter in tone than GTAIV and the wide-open gameplay lets you go nuts from the get-go. The first thing I did after the mandatory opening mission was drive to the airport, jack a triplane, and start doing stunts while shooting things up with the machine gun. I've been playing it for about an hour a night the past few nights and I still haven't started any real missions.

I have only done three missions. I completed the fight club and got the acheivement. That was alot of fun. Pretty easy, though.

Where is the fight club at?

I created my character as a girl and one of the first things I did was "Ho-ing" My character is such a slut.

You can actually get a katana sword in GTA. I'm glad you liked it. I just picked it up but haven't read any reviews on it since I wasn't planning on picking it up. I got in the buy 2 get one free deal.

I take it this doesn't have multiplayer since no one said anything about it. hmmm or does it. Maybe I should read the the complete thread.

No...there aren't any katanas in GTA IV. GTA: San Andreas, perhaps...

You can coop the storyline with a friend. My brother and I got on earlier and raised all kinds of hell with the cops and other gang members. It is funny how you revive your partner by "pouring out a little liquor".

I got it tonight. Not sure what you cats are talking about, but I'm finding the driving controls to be horrendous.

So far, the game is pretty fun. The customization is cool. The firing controls are about the same as GTA...not good, not bad. The most fun I've had is throwing people, that's a blast.

It's definitely no GTA (which is what it must be compared to)...it's glitchy (I had a guy stuck in the middle of my car while driving) and the driving controls are shit, but it'll be a fun time waster for a week or two.

There's one at the prison, and one at the arena.

I hate how your forward progress is stopped by larger light poles, benches, some fences, etc. It's painfully annoying to be following someone for a mission, and hitting these and getting stuck. In GTA IV, there were very few things you couldn't run through with a car.

Also, the collision detection is indeed bad. Easy to get stuck places.

Can you get hookers in your car? I pulled up next to one and honked -- but no luck (so I shot her )

I'm not sure what you're talking about, as the driving controls have been spot-on for me - stopping, starting and turning on a dime - the cars do exactly what I want them to do all the time. They handle pretty arcade-like, but they're super responsive and easy to control.

The driving in SR2 is far better than it was in GTAIV. The car turns much tighter and can stop on a dime.

They just don't control realistically. Maybe I had become too used to the GTA scheme of things, but it feels like I'm playing Crazy Taxi or something when I jump on a motorcycle and it doesn't even lean from side to side. It's like it's on a rail.

I do agree that SR2 has much more of an arcadey feel but I'm fine with that. If Arcadey = more fun then bring it.

Anybody get any motion sickness playing SR2? Normally I never have a problem -- but I felt near vomitous after playing last night.

Thanks. I ended up beating both of them. I stole an old fighter plane and flew to the prison -- then crashed and ended up in jail.

I haven't even opened the game yet, but just the fact that that's possible sounds fucking amazing.

I've only played for an hour or so, but I love it. The character creation is nuts! I made some sort of emaciated scottish punk rocker with spiky green hair. Plan on playing a ton over the weekend.
