So what is Tron going to cost us points-wise?

400 points. And I loved that game as a kid also. Still I completely expect this version to suck.

My gamertag is Kunane954. I would love to play more with you all especially the co-op games. After this holiday season I have more games then have actually played so if you look at my games online and do not see it listed, just ask, I may have just not gotten around to opening it yet.
here is to me actually finishing games i started (Gears of War, Crackdown, Halo 3, etc. )
See you all online!

Anyone else try Omega 5 yet? I'm very impressed with the demo. It looks amazing; kind of like a real arcade game. How it's <50 MB is beyond me. I want to see a review before I buy it, but it sure seems like a good game (once I figured out that you're shooting with the other stick; I was using the trigger attacks at first, which made it really hard to play).

It's a shame that online co-op isn't included. I have no idea why it isn't. Still, unless the game is incredibly short or shallow, I'd guess it's well worth 800 points. I'd imagine it's right up Pixy's alley.

Goldeneye coming to XBLA?

I'm at work and can't read this. What does it say?

I'm playing both titles today. Hope to have reviews later. Omega 5 is pretty challenging and impressive. I have mastered level 1, but level 2 is a nightmare. I'm also very disappointed that there is no online co-op. Seems like a perfect game for it.

Tron is about what you would expect. No surprises.

Has anyone bought the full version of Tron? That is the only way you can see the enhanced graphics.

Rareware Is Revisiting 007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Xbox Evolved has many sources indicating that the classic N64 Rareware title “Goldeneye 007” will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade later this year, as well as many others.

Talking with very reliable sources, and seeing evidence ourselves, Xbox Evolved believes that Microsoft, Rareware, MGM Studios (studio that makes the James Bond 007 movies) and Activision (holds the license for James Bond 007 titles right now) have come to an agreement to bring the Rareware developed Goldeneye 007 out to Xbox Live Arcade shortly before the new game developed by Activision is released.

The title will feature updated graphics, and of course an all-new Xbox Live multiplayer. Not only that, but we have found evidence that Rareware is planning on releasing even more of their back catalog onto Xbox Live Arcade, specifically, Perfect Dark and the original Banjo-Kazooie. Expect more on at least Goldeneye 007 later this year.

I'm definitely excited for Omega 5. I had to go to work though so I haven't tried it yet.

There is another way. Find a screenshot of Tron on Google and use your image viewer of choice to stretch the image to 720 lines of resolution using a bilinear filter. Behold the greatness of "HD enhanced" graphics.

Oh man - if they pull that off decently, my old college roommates and I have a new game to play.

mdc3000 01-09-08 11:35 AM

If Goldeneye comes out, that will be amazing... probably my #1 game of all time (for multiplayer and hours of time played anyhow)

Rumors are that Goldeneye never got the green light because Nintendo put pressure on Activision so they wouldn’t let Microsoft use the Bond licence.

Technically speaking, Activision doesn’t need Nintendo’s permission to do anything with Bond, but given the original release of the game and their good relationship with the Nintendo, they decided to play fair and ask first. Apparently, Nintendo’s CEO Satoru Iwata simply said “no” to any form of GoldenEye in any console but their own.

Activision then denied the use of the licence to keep their good terms with Nintendo.

The funny thing about it is that during the bilateral negotiations between Microsoft and Nintendo, the Japanese were offered the possibility of getting the rights to release the original GoldenEye 007 for their Virtual Console in exchange of their blessing for a special edition on Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade. Rumour has it they didn’t like the deal, which was, in any case, beneficial for everybody. Including their users.

So basically Nintendo wants GoldenEye. Microsoft wants GoldenEye. Rare wants GoldenEye. Activision wants GoldenEye. And players yearn for GoldenEye. But thanks to the first ones, nobody gets GoldenEye, unless Microsoft or any company without strong commercial ties with Nintendo obtains the Bond licence someday.

But this was a while ago - they may have patched things up since then.

Possible Goldeneye screen-shot on Xbox Live.

This means we could see Blastcorps! Hooray!

Michael Corvin 01-09-08 04:20 PM

Amen to Blast Corps.

I'm waiting to buy any XBLA games until they announce the free one. Only thing I've dl'd so far is tracks for Rock Band.

Liver&Onions 01-09-08 05:07 PM

lol - just a quick chuckle about gatordeb. She spent all this cash, got it all setup and checking her 360 blog, shows she hasn't played in a VERY long time. lol.

You've been here long enough. Surely you're not surprised by this? :)

Not at all - I even made a joke about it while she was enamored with it initially :) I'm also following her thread in Book Talk ;-)

Decker 01-09-08 05:24 PM

I told her in person to SLOW DOWN. I said try a few games out, play some demos, don't overdo it. Did she listen? Of course not.

flashburn 01-09-08 05:35 PM

I just played the demo for Omega Five. I thought it was pretty fun, but a bit too short to decide on whether or not I want to spend 800 points on it. I might just wait until it goes on sale or becomes a "Greatest Hit" or whatever.

Does the full game include more than two selectable characters?

There's a Book Talk here? :)

Yes, but they have to be unlocked.

I decided to go ahead and spend the 400 points to purchase Tron. I figured that I buy pretty much all the games anyway (even the ones I have in old school stand-up arcade form).

The top 3 things wrong with this port of Tron:

1) There is something messed up with the sound. The sound isn't the same as the arcade. I'm not going to go to the basement and turn my machine on tonight, but will in the next couple of days to verify. But, there is something distinctly wrong with the audio, it's really tinty and just off.

2) The light cycle mode was the only stage I could beat the first time around and it was waaay easier than the original.

3) The reason I couldn't beat any other level the first time: The right joystick taking the place of the spinner wheel in the arcade version. The right stick is near impossible to move and sucks ass.

Suffice to say, I won't be putting up the arcade game on ebay any time soon. The arcade game stays near the top of my all-time favorite stand-ups. This bastardized x-box live version is now one of the worst live-arcade games I have ever played.

astrochimp 01-09-08 11:09 PM

Thanks for your review dan.I only tried the demo but had the problems with the controls too.Im gonna pass on the full version.
