Sonystyle.com. I signed up for the Sony card. You get $150 off your first purchase*. Shipping is free Tues-Thurs. Tax was $30. So $380.

I forgot about Component though. Add another $20 to that. Picked those up at BB today. I think I have a spare optical laying around, need to search for it though.

*well, it is refunded to you on your first statement.

Hadn't thought of that. There are quite a few of those out there.

I've had a lot of fun with the Kingdom Hearts series. I would definately look at those.

Ninja Gaiden for the PS3 is pretty damn fun, but if you're looking to get the cheaper PS2 games, you can't go wrong with the highly rated franchises like God of War, Kingdom Hearts and Metal Gear.

Let me guess, Cool New Member, you're an unconditional Xbox supporter who's touting the company line and has refused to so much as look at anything PS3?

i second, or third or wtf ever is next for okami, that game is really unique. it was a shocker to me because it came out so late in the ps2 lifespan, but regardless a good game.

That's tempting, I'm just nervous about it affecting my credit score, and I really don't want the Sony Credit Card, it seems like other rewards cards are better. But a PS3 for $380 would probably get me to pick one up.

Anyways, I would reccomend a lot of the games others are recommending. The Ratchet and Clank games are great, I also liked Ico and Shadow of the Colossus and God of War.

yeah. I was on the fence, but I've had the same card for about 10 years and haven't signed up for anything else. Already have a house and a car, both of which were 3-4 years ago.

Picked up the first Jak at Gamestop earlier. A GS I don't usually go to. I was hounded to no end about their fucking magazine and edge card. I told them no twice and yet he continued his spiel. I told them I buy new and they laughed and asked "who buys new?" We guarantee our used games for 30 days! You only get a week with new ones. . I almost left all three games on the counter and left, it was so bad. I will definitely not be going back to that one.

Don't hate the player man, hate the game. I have a PS3 right now but there really isn't any games that I like on it. Besides, I got the PS3 first before I purchased the XBox 360. In fact, I got the PS3 8 months before I got the XBox 360. So there!!!

To be fair, Mr Corvin clearly stated he owns a 360, which means that he would most likely purchase, or have already purchased the better cross platform games on that console instead of the new PS3. This pairs the PS3 library down to a relatively small number of exclusives (for now), and some cool arcade stuff - mostly already mentioned by other posters.

Wow MC, good for you! Yeah, i read a lot of the credit stuffs from CAG about this Sony CC deal. However, hearing that you got a house and car, it shouldn't be a biggie for you, excellent! You're pretty much in the same boat as i am... i missed out the PS2 completely (not too many games from the PS1 either). Recently, i just finished GoW1 and 2 (i don't like the button smashing part much, but the visuals... i can't get enough of that). Still playing Okami and FFXII (oh wait, you're not into RPGs). Well, i think you got enough on your plate for a while...

ah, since you just ordered the PS3, that means when you update the FW, you don't need to connect the controller via the USB port. It was a quite annoying process in the previous FWs...

FW?

I think I'm set. Like I said above I have the following games to get me started:

Jak & Daxter
Klonoa 2
Maximo
component cables

I also ordered the Fifth Element BD(sealed) off half.com for $13. Seems pretty cheap. I also noticed that Mark of Kri is only $5 at GS/EB. Might go get that one tomorrow. Noticed they still want around $18 for Kingdom Hearts. Seemed pretty high for how old it is, so I'll wait on that one. Okami is in the same boat, going for $35 still.

Yeah some PS2 games really seem to hold their value. I guess something like Okami didn't really have a big print run either. I still have a list of at least 5 ps2 games (incl Okami) that I definitely want to get my hands on, although preferably not full price. Of course, living overseas makes it harder to get as good a deals as u locals .

I'm in a similar situation, except that I owned a PS1 the whole time. I got a PS2 in February from a friend, and have been catching up, as well as playing some of the PS1 classics...these are aside from what's already been mentioned

PS2
Bombastic - the sequel to a PS1 fave of mine, Devil Dice. Just one hell of a fun, fast paced puzzle/strategy game.
Yakuza
Soul Calibur III
Twisted Metal Black

PS1
N2O - it's like Tempest X on acid...with a soundtrack by the Crystal Method. I still love this game
Einhander - a short but sweet shooter from Squaresoft
Twisted Metal 2 - the graphics are friggin ancient anymore, but damn fun
Klonoa - Door to Phantomille - a great Namco platformer
Earthworm Jim 2 - Just damn fun
Medievil
Wild 9 - I like it...others don't. a decent platformer.
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo - just badass vs. puzzle action (coming to XBLA in HD soon though)

Be careful with the Fifth Element BD as the original BD was horrible, and was recently reissued by Sony (though if it isn't the remaster, you may be able to trade it with them). Since you mentioned you liked Disney before, you probably would like Kingdom Hearts -- while it has RPG elements, it ultimately plays more like an action/adventure game. I found it boring, but have lots of friends that love it.

I found that last game to be highly overrated, but to each his own.

Make sure it is the remastered version. The original release had horrible picture quality. Worst case, if you do get the old one, Sony will swap it for the new one at no charge. The way to tell is to look at the audio options on the back cover. If Dolby True HD is listed it is the new one. Check the two reviews on this site to see the difference.

My personal non RPG favorites are Maximo and Devil May Cry. They got me playing action/adventure games again (Maximo is very platform-y but pretty good combat).

I'd guess you don't like strategy since you're not an RPG guy, but Dynasty Tactics is like a great game of chess - another personal favorite

I've been considering a cheap 20GB PS3 as a Blu-ray / PS2/PS1 gaming machine myself. PS1 games over component drive my receiver and my 37" LCD crazy - something about the resolution - so I had to run component cables to my projector just for PS1 games. I could use the scaling.

The 20GBs are under $400 and I've been trying to scrape one up (I don't need wireless, I have wireless in the audio rack, and I don't need the memory card reader). PS2 slimlines are still worth about $80-$100 on ebay and I never liked the slimline (I miss our old fat PS2). I might eventually nab one off ebay.

Oh yeah. Fighting games. I think they are lower on the list than RPGs. I'm apt to try an RPG out in a rare case, but highly doubtful I'd ever pop in a fighting game. Fight Night is probably as close as it gets.

Go for it. Part of the reason I decided to join the fray was selling some stuff on half.com. Managed to sell $250 worth of games/cds in the past couple months. Couple that with the $350 price tag and I'm out just a little out of pocket.

I did the same thing, sold most of my oldschool NES/SNES/Genesis and a lot of PS2/Xbox/GC stuff. But I used the money for a new receiver.

I think $350 is my break point. PS2s are still hot for selling unlike the Xbox/GC (I couldn't sell the wife's GC + Gameboy player for $50 + shipping on ebay). Should be able to get at least $80 or so for the slimline PS2 making the total outlay about $280 which I can deal with.

Yeah. I try and stick to everything that will go on half. Ebay is a hassle. Unfortunately I still have a region free DVD player and component switch box to unload. Will probably get a decent amount, but I'm too lazy to mess with ebay.

God, I hate Maximo. Corvin, you could have had my copy for free (if I can find it). Maybe there was an okay game beyond the insane difficulty, but I couldn't find it.

Skip Kingdom Hearts and go straight to the sequel. It's much better.

Agreed. Not being able to control the camera with the right stick is something I could never get used to after playing so many games with that feature. It's like trying to play Goldeneye now after many years of playing FPS's with two analog sticks.

Whaaat? Skip Kingdom Hearts and go straight to the sequel? That makes no sense. The sequel would feel utterly confusing if you haven't played the first, plus, the first still feels so much more fresh than II ever will.
