I'm thinking that if I don't absolutely love Super Mario Galaxy, I may ditch it entirely. It just doesn't have much appeal to me. The motion sensor is cool, but does seem to be somewhat of a gimmick, simply because other than Wii Sports/Zelda, I haven't played a game where it genuinely improves it. (And please don't suggest one of the dozens of mini-game compilations. :) Not interested in those.) Guess we'll see. I have somewhat high hopes for Smash Bros., and extremely high hopes for Mario. I was out with two of my friends who live far away but with whom I game often and one of them mentioned that the only reason he plays on his (original) Xbox is for the social aspect of Xbox Live. He's upgrading to the 360 because no other console has his friends on it (and/or the Wii has no real online). We all agreed that the Wii is a lot of fun but only with other people around. The Gamecube enticed me based on a lot of the party games they had: DK Bongo, etc. But if I ever had a crowd of people over, they weren't the kind that would want to play it. I have to admit I got my money's worth with my Wii. I played it more in the first two months than any other console before it. I'm definitely picking up Galaxy this fall. But I'm hoping that there will be some "Aha!" moments with developers and we'll see some really cool inventive stuff in 2008. |
To be fair that poll on the voting channel for widescreen TVs was 50% because of Europe. The US still had the majority with standard TVs.
I still consider HD gaming the most overhyped thing out there. I have enjoyed my PS2 games on my PS3 a lot more than any of the real HD games I have played on it. I rented MLB07 for PS3 and it really wasn't that much better of an experience over the PS2 version. FPS games benefit the most from HD, but if the gameplay in Metroid Prime 3 is solid it really won't matter that the game is SD. |
what kind of TV are you playing your HD gaming on? I can't understand how it could be over hyped

i mean, I enjoyed my games on my SD 35" TV, but good GOD did it make a difference playing 360 on my 47" LCD.

Shit, I went to play my Wii last night and it wouldn't turn on. I tried both my remotes and pressing the console power button. The light was in "stand-by" but it wouldn't turn on.
Shit! My heart started beating....After having to send my 360 in(video related not Red ring related) I'm just a tad skittish when it comes to console failure. I ended up pulling the power cord out, waiting a few moments, and plugging it back in. It came on after that. Anyone else have this happen? It only happened this one time and I doubt it anything major, but who knows..... |
nah, never heard of anything like that before.
but I did get to try out Alien Syndrome for the Wii yesterday |

I've had my Wii lock-up once like that in standby. It scared me too, but hasn't happened since. It was several months ago now.

Nintendo delays Wii expansion plans Yen Ting Chen, Taipei; Emily Chuang, DIGITIMES [Friday 17 August 2007] Due to the tight supply of components such as IC chips and PCBs, Nintendo's plans to expand production of its Wii games console, originally set for June, have been delayed, according to Taiwan-based component makers. With the delay of its plans, any easing of the Wii shortages in the worldwide market is unlikely to be seen in the second half of 2007, said the component makers. Since Nintendo launched Wii in November 2006, the company has only introduced the games console in select regions such as the US, Japan, Europe and Australia. Worldwide accumulated shipments of Wii totaled 9.27 million units by June 2007, according to sources. |

Also, 1 out of 5 people think money is more important than love. |

Bear in mind that widescreen != HDTV. While widescreen has a high penetration in the UK, for instance, not all of those televisions are HD.

You know what I'd love? The ability to shoot VC games over to my DS (similar to what you could do with Animal Crossing and the GBA).

"Gold makes the world go round."
"Some people say love." "Well, they're right, too. It is love. Love of gold." |
"Money makes the world go 'round. Those who don't think so, don't have money".
