Here's one of the new videos that went up on the MP3 Preview Channel yesterday or today. Holy awesome (spoilers?)! I sure hope we get to see some of those Aurora units in this game. I wonder if any of them have gone rogue.

No spoilers for me..! two more weeks. Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock..

pinata242 08-14-07 12:32 PM

I pre-ordered it from FV. Judging by the week-long delay it took for Strikers to arrive in my mailbox, I may have to go ahead and get this from BB first. My anticipation is too great.

wlmowery 08-14-07 12:36 PM

I have not played any of the prior Metroid titles on any Nintendo system. Which one should I start with? The just released VC copy of the NES game? A used Gamecube version of Metroid Prime? Any suggestions welcomed.

PixyJunket 08-14-07 12:38 PM

I hit the "trade two for one" deal at GameStop and dumped Super Monkey Ball (shit) and Trauma Center (okay, but the girlfriend was done with it). So, thankfully I should be able to pick mine up Monday night. Taking Tuesday off is tempting but it's so close to a holiday as is.. we'll see.

KurrptSenate 08-14-07 12:40 PM

the side scrolling metroids aren't too much like the 3d counter parts. If you are thinking about getting MP3, I'd suggest the first Prime for GameCube

The NES original is really tough. It gives you very little direction, essentially dropping you into a series of corridors that all look the same and letting you figure out where to go. It can be fun if you enjoy making your own maps and if you have a lot of patience, but I personally think it's a little overrated. Super Metroid is much, much better, and if you enjoy the more recent 2D Castlevania games, it's very similar in structure: each new item opens up new areas for you to explore, requiring you to backtrack to previous locations that used to be inaccessible. The first Metroid Prime is also excellent. So my recommendation is to skip the first Metroid and either get Super Metroid next week on VC (if you want a 2D game) or Metroid Prime (if you want a 3D game). Even with the jump to 3D, Metroid Prime still retains the essence of the Super Metroid gameplay, so you really can't go wrong with either one.

pinata242 08-14-07 01:37 PM

What are the odds of seeing Super Mario Bros. 3 on VC more than a week or two before Galaxy hits in November? After Super Metroid on Monday I'll only have one more "reserved" space on my first page on channels. It's obviously reserved for SMB3.

Keep in mind that the MP1 and MP2 controls aren't traditional FPS controls. You can't run around while shooting!! MP3 will be more of a FPS than the last 2 iterations. But, you can get either one pretty cheap these days.

That's because it's not a traditional FPS. Also, I'm not sure what game you played but you can certainly run and shoot in Prime, you just can't free-look while you're moving around. The lock-on feature basically keeps the gameplay as close to Super Metroid as possible without turning it into Quake with a Samus skin pack (which, sadly, is what I referred to the game as for half a year before playing it myself).

-confused-

You can run around while shooting in MP1 and MP2 by using the lock-on feature. Are you talking about the fact that you can't aim anywhere you want while moving? I don't think the Prime games are really "FPS". Sure, it's in the first-person perspective, and you shoot things, but the focus is more on platforming, exploration, and using your items and skills to reach new areas. The combat is really secondary to that. Personally, I like the "first person adventure" description.

KurrptSenate 08-14-07 01:54 PM

i liked the way they kept it (regarding MP1). It seemed to keep the platform element in tact

That's what I was referring too! Thanks for clearing it up, I always describe it incorrectly.

That's the main reason I couldn't really get into it. While it may not be a traditional FPS per se, not having free look was a real killer for me. Same thing for Timesplitters and their goofy self centering reticule. If your going to make it look and for the most part play like a FPS, at least give me the option of traditional FPS control. Having incorporated free-look would have had little bearing on the adventure aspects IMO and enhanced combat.

That being said, I am looking forward to MP3.

'Tomb Raider Anniversary: Wii Edition' looks pretty cool:

Michael Corvin 08-15-07 03:48 PM

I was planning on holding out for the 360 version, but damn those controls and puzzles look sweet.

The graphics don't actually look like shit either, which is a plus. Might have to go for the Wii version.

You got that right. I'm just getting started on Metroid Prime and after years of Halo, Rainbow Six, and Ghost Recon this game is taking quite a bit of getting use too in terms of the controls.

DodgingCars 08-15-07 07:00 PM

Wonder if TR: Aniv will be $30 like the PS2 version

Supermallet 08-15-07 07:33 PM

I'm guessing it will be $40.

Bandit03 08-15-07 07:49 PM

Wow, I wasnt planning on getting the Wii version of Tomb Raider but I think I just changed my mind.

Giantrobo 08-15-07 09:41 PM

Yeah, I'm just getting into TR:Legend after not being crazy about the series but I have to admit that Wii version looks interesting.

steebo777 08-16-07 07:39 AM

Honestly, it looks a bit gimmicky to me. At least the stuff in the beginning where you do the chiseling and rubbing on the walls. I like the action sequences and pretty much everything else, but some of that stuff looked like it didn't need the Wii controls for it.

Looked fun and not gimmicky to me at all. To me, it looked like it would actually get you more into the game. I showed my wife, who didn't like the original Tomb Raider and she actually got excited for the game.

I don't know, I like the idea of using the remote to chisel and draw and spin things. That's why I bought a Wii.

The Bus 08-16-07 09:16 AM

I've heard (here and elsewhere) recommendations of wiiplayable.com as a good place for Flash games to be played on the Wii. I wasn't that impressed.

However, an old Flash site I used to go to, Orisinal, does work and while the games are all equally simple, for the most part, the art direction is superb and (for me) they fit perfectly on the TV screen. A happy accident, no doubt, since many of these games are 3-4 years old.

I need to pick up Wii for my sister-in-law. I have yet to see any in stores. Where is the best place to pick up a system these days. And are there any deals and or bundles I should be aware of. Thx

bahgee 08-16-07 12:16 PM

Can you download game saves from gamefaqs onto an SD card an then transfer those saves to the Wii?

Don't see why not.

Pretty much eBay if you want one right away.

The coverart for the Wii version of Rockstar Games Table Tennis is a little bit strange...

At least the screenshots are right. Nice to see that Rockstar is not going to radically change this game for the Wii.

Not every game supports this. You can check http://www.wiisave.com/ for more info as well.

bahgee 08-16-07 03:34 PM

Awesome, thanks!

I found that once you start looking for one, they can be had fairly quickly. Just hit places like Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Target, etc... on a regular basis, preferably right as they open, and you should be able to get one.

jdpatri 08-16-07 04:17 PM

Yeah, I'd add to just keep checking the listings in the Sunday morning newspaper inserts because they're always listed for the Sundays they get them in... but, yeah you can't do that either. :)

...except, of course, if Xbox continues to rock the Best Buy ads in Speedy's forced absence. You won't need to worry about The Retailer That Shall Not Be Named.

edstein 08-16-07 04:27 PM

Thanks for the tips guys.

I'm pretty sure you can reset the router and it'll reset the settings to factory default, or at least set the user name and password to default. I think you're supposed to hold the reset button down for like 30 seconds or something like that. It should be in the router manual.

jediwicz 08-16-07 09:57 PM

Just try "password" or "admin" as the password. Also, I had to change my router channel to 11 (from 6). The MTU setting also needs to be bumped to 1500 on the Wii itself once connected, you get a much faster transfer rate.

Toad 08-17-07 07:50 AM

I may have posted this in the Madden 08 thread, but the graphics for the Wii version are REALLY lackluster. It almost looks like a years-old version of the game.

I just don't get it. I think Wii Sports looks amazing; and EA's game looks like crap.

:(
