Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
They really should have spent less time on the graphics and more on varying the game itself. I also don't think that the map is really that big altogether. Yes, there is a lot more detail to the parts of the map that are there but they don't really add anything to the enjoyment of the game. It is also very much like moving from room to room and shooting 2-10 bad guys and then moving along (rinse and repeat). I fought a boss early on and got annoyed that the enemies would just continuously spawn until you took out the boss himself. The game is good but it is nowhere close to what we were made to believe the game was.

Like others have said, different strokes for different folks I guess. I loved Borderlands. Loving Rage so far too. I don't play games looking for something new and groundbreaking. The graphics and animation are some of the best I've ever seen. I also haven't had one glitch or freeze in three solid days of playing which is more than I can say for almost any game I've played recently. I have a good 18+ hours in so far. and I don't think I'm even close to the end so it's not short by any means. I finished Borderlands in 2 days by comparison. |
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
EXACTLY like Borderlands? Really? Okay...
Oh wait, it's a FPS and it has a "Wasteland" setting, so yes, of course, it's the same game. |
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
I would say that the setting and characters are reminiscent of Borderlands, but the gameplay is not.
|
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
I think I said more than wasteland setting. You primarily travel around in a dune buggy type vehicle equipped with machine guns and rockets... sound like Borderlands? There's a job board in the towns that lists miscellaneous side quests that you can choose to do but has no effect on the outcome of the game... sound like Borderlands? You can have multiple active missions at the same time just like Borderlands. In Borderlands you start out fighting local mutant creatures and thugs and as the game progresses you end up helping a resistance fight the organized armored military "Crimson Lance". In Rage you start out fighting local mutants and thugs and work your way up as part of the resistance to fight the organized armored military "The Authority". Pretty damn similar plot if you ask me. If you'd like me to fill a post with spolier tags, I can name at least 5 missions in Rage that were pretty much the same in Borderlands.
Not alike huh? What's so totally different? If you're reading why people aren't liking this game as much as they thought, it's because it's all been done before. Hmmm, I wonder where. |
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
You have got to be kidding me.
Having multiple main missions simultaneously and side missions that you can choose to complete or just ignore? Congratulations, you just described every single RPG in existence. Borderlands certainly did not invent it. Vehicles in an FPS? Borderlands again did not invent it. Lots of FPS games have had vehicles. Half-Life way back in 1998 is the first that I can recall, and almost every FPS since then has had vehicles. A plot that starts out locally and grows into something worldwide? Again you have described the plots of many games. Hey you know what? Rage is similar to Final Fantasy VII because FFVII's plot started out locally in Midgar before growing into a worldwide crisis... |
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
Holy crap... did I offend somebody? I didn't say Borderlands invented anything. In my opinion, Rage is just like Borderlands. Apparently I'm completely wrong. There not alike whatsoever. Borderlands is good. Rage sucks. -rolleyes-
If someone asked me to describe Rage in three words or less I would say "Borderlands without co-op". Whatthefuckever. I think Rage looks and plays great. :) |
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
19K is spot. I've played both borderlands and rage. They are virtually the same game.
|
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
You didn't offend me. It takes a lot more than some random person on the internet to get me angry.
I was just pointing out how poor your comparisons were. Multiple main missions, non-critical side missions, vehicles, local plot growing worldwide, etc are all very very very vague and have been used countless times in games prior to Borderlands. If you say Rage is like Borderlands because of those vague similarities then you also have to say Rage is similar to other games that contain the same similarities. Like the aforementioned Final Fantasy VII. FFVII had multiple main missions, non-critical side missions, vehicles, and a local plot growing worldwide. Therefore, Rage is like FFVII!!! |
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
I haven't played Borderlands yet, so I'm sure Rage will be great to me ;)
|
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
You're right. My comparisons were probably very poor. They say pictures are worth 1000 words... is this any better?
http://home.comcast.net/~gd300z/pics...andsvsrage.jpg Oh wait... I see a difference. "The Authority" shields are blue and the "Crimson Lance" shields are red. |
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
You are silly. Sure they *look* the same, but they play pretty differently. The actual gameplay mechanics are very different.
Just remember, you can think what you want, but you are wrong. |
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
Also, if you played Borderlands without the levelling, the skill system, and the loot, would you still consider THAT to still be the same Borderlands? To me, that's almost a completely different game, and the only thing they share is the graphics, settings, and parts of the gameplay. Personally that game wouldn't of kept me interested for a 100+ hours.

Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
Screenshots can be manipulated to show anything. The first pictures of the vehicles show that clearly, with both of them being manipulated to show the vehicle driving towards the camera. It proves nothing. Countless FPS games have had vehicles. That doesn't mean they are all alike other than sharing a vehicle.
The screenshots of the enemies are very generic, and if you didn't know exactly what game they came from, you could say they could have potentially come from any FPS game. |

Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
The game is alot like Borderlands. Even the people dress the same. I'm just waiting for the Claptrap knockoff ;)

Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
Borderlands, you try to kill the enemy before he kills you.
Pong, you try to get the ball past the enemy before he gets it past you. Pong is like Borderlands! |

So once we take you out of the equation, it's actually 2 against 1 saying they're the same. |
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
The auto-save on this game is very unforgiving. It only seems to save when you're going in and out of an instance. So if you wander around the Wasteland for a while and get killed you could lose a lot of progress.
On the other hand, it does have "Save Anywhere", so I guess it's a wash. |
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
Are you serious? Please tell me you aren't.
I am 99.9999999% sure edstein was being sarcastic. I never once questioned where the screenshots came from. What I said was that the enemy screenshots are generic and if someone didn't know where they came from, it could be argued that they came from any FPS. Because you know that most FPS *look* very similar although they don't always *play* very similar. I never said that I didn't know where they came from. Reading comprehension... |
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
sarcastic? really? 99.999% sure? what exactly was sarcastic about his remark?

Well usually when someone is being sarcastic their reply is usually very short and witty without actually explaining anything, which is exactly what edstein's post was. Of course we can't know for sure until edstein comes back. |
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
I wasn't being sarcastic either. The game reminds me of Borderlands. So did Dead Island. They had similarities.
Saints Row reminded me of GTA. Gears reminded me of Halo. You guys are so sensitive. Someone says a game you don't care for is like a great game like Borderlands and tempers flare. |
