iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
Was checking over at XBL and saw this new trailer from the fine folks at iD Software (Quake & Doom) and my first thought was "Mad Max-Beyond Thunderdome". This game will be interesting to follow since it combines both combat racing and FPS with a touch of RPG. Visual it's pretty impressive.

(bump)
The footage they showed at this year's E3 looked great graphically. Hopefully there is a good game in there, too. |

I couldn't believe no one mentioned this when G4 was interviewing one of the developers at E3. When I asked a friend if he had seen the game, he said "Oh you mean Borderlands 2?"

Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
All I can say it's about time and at least it made it to E3. iD software is known for two games...Doom and Quake which with Epic's Unreal Tournament ruled the pc gaming industry. From what i've read Rage will use the company's new iD Tech 5 engine which itself is impressive. Here's a rundown of the new engine...
http://www.firingsquad.com/games/id_software_rage/ The game uses what id is calling id Tech 5, the next graphics engine from the company's co-founder John Carmack. (according to Hollensheadm they consider id Tech 1 to be the Doom engine, while Tech 2 is Quake 1-2, Tech 3 is Quake 3 and Tech 4 is Doom 3). One of the most important aspects of id Tech 5 is the fact that id wants their game and all other games that use the technology to run at 60 frames per second on all four platforms (PC, Mac, PS3 and Xbox 360..and no a Wii version of id Tech 5 is not planned). That means that if a developer uses id Tech 5 they in theory will be able to make a game that will be released on all of those four platforms at the same time and perform at the same frame rate (in practice that might not happen due to how Sony and Microsoft have to approve each game for their respective consoles). id Tech 5 should also eliminate how artists and level designers make games using the engine. Usually developing a game means having to cut textures and parts of levels in order to have it work on multiple platforms. However, the new graphics engine should allow people to use the same art assets and all of the level design on all four of id Tech 5's supporting platforms. While Hollenshead told us that different platforms will still be limited in terms of polygon detail, the art and level design should not be affected |

It looks like Borderlands but with graphics I actually like. And if it's going to be 60fps on both of the consoles as well, that's great!

Yeah can't wait to try this out. One of my most Anticipated title along with Gears Of War 3, Dead Space 2 & Bulletstorm for 2011, and they're all coming early in the year , well except maybe RAGE :) ... "Until it's done"

Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
Does anyone know if it will have an open world environment like Fallout 3?

Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
Some new movies up showing more gameplay, The Well and Shooting & Driving Buggies. The Well gives you a "Bioshock" feeling while Driving Buggies is "Borderlands" but highly detailed. This is from a PS3 and the game looks pretty good. Note the ability to thro a mini axe with your left hand while still holding on to the gun with your right.

Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
It really does look like Fallout and Borderlands' lovechild. Which isn't a bad thing, love those games.
Any co-op in this? Multiplayer? |
Re: iD's Rage= "Mad Max Thunderdome" pc,360,ps3
There is co-op and sure MP. Some are already complaining it's a "Bordrlands & Fallout" take-off. They need to be reminded that the idea and concept behind Rage was before Borderalands and Fallout hit the shelves. It's just taken far longer to develope and make.

Rage Multiplayer First Look Preview - Story-Based Co-Op and Vehicular Devastation
The major reveal at the event was obviously multiplayer, and easily the most surprising part of the reveal was that, despite id’s pedigree in the competitive multiplayer shooter space, Rage does not include any head-to-head, on-foot multiplayer. Instead, it features two distinct offerings: a vehicle-based mode and a narrative inspired co-op portion. While co-op might not sound terribly out of place, a vehicle-only mode definitely falls into the unexpected category. But as Rage’s game director Matt Hooper explained to us in our eyes-on demo, it just made sense given Rage's overall structure and design. The vehicle-based multiplayer, aka Rage Combat Rally, looks like a bizarre mix of Mario Kart and Twisted Metal, with each player strapping into an arsenal-heavy buggy and engaging in explosive car-to-car battling. It supports up to six players (at least that’s the goal) and will feature several variations such as deathmach/team deathmatch, Chain Rally (where you score points based on how many rally points you collect), and some others that aren’t known just yet. The map total is still being worked out, but there are currently five playable in the game, but that might grow for the final build, with the potential to add more later on via downloadable content. On the co-op side, things are a bit more traditional but no less impressive. As has become more and more common recently (Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, BioShock 2, the upcoming Red Faction: Armageddon, etc.), Rage’s co-op multiplayer, aka Legends of the Wasteland, has a narrative connection to the single-player story. So, for instance, the mission we watched cast us as two members of gang who are referenced in the story mode as having infiltrated an enemy stronghold to secure some plans and disarm various bombs set up around town. In co-op, you get to see/play that scenario. As Hooper explained, while co-op will shed light on Rage’s overall narrative, “it’s not these monumental, ‘Oh, well! That really makes sense now!’ It’s just kind of these cool little fiction moments. It’s better than just throwing two guys in there. It gives you a sense that you’re doing something meaningful.” |
