Is Contra 4 out now?! I need to get it.. or put it in my Christmas list since I'm SUPPOSED to be calming my spending (though I think not eating out every night would do more good than buying a game every week or two, heh).
I've been listening to remixes and chip tunes from the guy that did Contra 4's soundtrack (virt) for a long time now, he definitely had a Konami sound to some of his stuff, although I'm convinced that RushJet1 actually DID soundtracks for Konami in the NES days, you can download "Sounds of the 2A03" at the link to hear why I think that.

Even with 10 lives and playing on Easy, I couldn't make it to the 2nd stage boss. Wow.

Anyone have any opinions on the new Front Mission (remake) game? I'm considering getting it but some of the reader opinions on other sites have me worried that it will be disappointing. My alternative would be the new Warhammer 40k: Squad Command (PSP) game.

It's a game that I bought on my own; as of this point, we have not received a review copy. In actuality, we do not get reviewables for every release... so we do have to purchase a lot of our own software (or rent it).

Anyone tried out Ultimate Mortal Kombat yet? I'm wondering if it's worth it. There's a reader review on IGN that says the graphics are pretty pixelated. The official IGN review also mentions that there was a PSP Mortal Kombat release last year that included all 3 original MK games plus Puzzle Kombat, but I can't locate any info on such a release. I guess they have it wrong on that point?

The PSP release that the reviewer was referring to was Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play. The emulations of MKII and MKIII were allegedly gimped by framerate issues.

You know, I played some Contra 4, and it's hard, but it's not hard in the way I was expecting - it's cheap-hard. As in, more than half my deaths resulted in getting hit by bullets I couldn't see on the tiny DS screens. If I were playing this on a screen, say, at least 10", then this would not be an issue. Further, the screen on the DS is also the controller, as in, when your hands move, so does the screen - making hectic games harder than they should be.

To see video footage, click the bar on the far right lable PV. This game looks amazing.

Mario Party DS.
Since the kids are getting DSs for Christmas, all four of us can play off of one card.

If this is true, I'll skip Mario Party DS. No WFC, and no true single cart play?? Damn...

Surprisingly, it looks as though you'll get the full Mario Party experience with only one copy of the game via the DS's download play. We were able to have those three friends join in with the standard download play option, and it only took a minute or so to get into the game and choose one of the same five game boards you'll find in the single-player game. It seems like all the minigames will be available during a download-play session as well, since the game would transmit data for a few seconds each time we started a new minigame. We can't say what kind of multiplayer options you'll get with multiple cartridges, since we have only one copy of the game in-house, but we'll tip our hat to Nintendo's generosity for giving you such a robust multiplayer option when only one cartridge is present.

That is cool. We all bought copies of the GBA version (when it was on clearance at CC) only to find that it was more of a single player game.
If this one is more like the console versions I will definitely pick it up.

finally got to check out Ultimate Mortal Kombat. It's a near-perfect port believe it or not. In 1p mode it runs smooth and is just like the old ones. Game plays out on the bottom screen while moves (inlcuding finishing moves
) are on the top screen.
The online play actually impressed. While you will experience some slow down while playing online, I never had an easier time connecting to a random opponent worldwide.
After some extended play the thumb pad will start fucking with your thumb. The online slow down seems more like a trend, but I never felt like it killed the game for me

I know I'm a bit late to the party on this, but I'm officially hooked on Picross.
I grabbed it yesterday on a blind buy. I was at the store looking for something I could play for a while and walk away from (A change of pace from the longer playing Zelda) and stumbled across this. Somehow, it entirely slipped under the radar.
What an addictive little game.

I played through every puzzle on Picross, but since I bought the UK version I got no extra puzzles. I think it is time to buy the US version and just beat all those puzzles again. Loved this game.

Even though I set out to buy Ultimate Mortal Kombat, I ended up buying Bleach: The Blade of Fate instead. Seems to be a much better value and from what I've read is a really solid game. Plus, I dig the anime visual style. Anyone else played this one?
