Sigh, more headache i guess... Mok, keep the info coming, i need to know this. Once i get my replacement, i'm gonna find out about the new warranty as well. It seems that people getting different answers for extended warranties. My friend said, he's covered under the MS's three year warranty and the extended warranty will kick in after three years. Well, that's pretty logical to me, but how's that stated on paper? I mean how do you know it for sure? I'm gonna ask him later...

I've had mine for a year and a week and the wife started getting DRE's while playing Rock Band over the weekend, hopefully this isn't the beginning of the end.

Since i got nothing else to do while waiting for the replacement, i was reading this thread from the beginning again... aside from few "passionate" posts, there are a lot of good discussions and i'm surprised that things didn't change much after five months! Only that more and more X360 owners are getting hit with the red ring of death problem.

Come on now, there gotta be something better than ship and repair method! I know it sucks, but the waiting is excruciating in many ways (i'm not gonna put it on the level of monetary compensation, but it has to be more than just a free game or free one month of on-line). I really like one of the poster's idea of "recall" or the ability to trade up (the new models/fixes). I really want to know what happens five month more months down the road... Think about it, the thread started in July and my X360 is manufactured in September (some of you got much later dates). So, what the hell really is going on in those those months? Are we ever going to see a X360 free of the RRoD label? Seriously, as a fan (hell, even a casual gamer), you don't want the X360 to be labeled with red ring of death, it's not funny anymore...

BTW, in your limited amount of research you would have found out that the RROD has been nipped in the bud (finally) and on top of that the 'Falcon' chips that run quiter / cooler (even lesser chance of a problem) are already in stores.

Enjoy the PS3, I do, albeit a LOT less than the 360.
Sorry, i have to quote this one... Obvious logic flaw, you know that you can still use the PS3 while waiting for "hot" titles right? While the X360 is being repaired, we all know what that means...

I dealt with 3 different CS people one night trying to get things straightened out. They had an old e-mail address on file when I placed my repair order. Later on I realized the info was out of date and I had them fix it. Now they claim that because of that I can't check my status online and they can't alter my repair order. I really think they could solve this problem somehow and that pisses me off way more than getting the red rings. I knew the red rings would happen eventaully....I just was not aware/prepared for the nightmare they like to call customer service.

My 360 arrived today, it's an older model 2006. It didn't even have the new dashboard update. Who ever had it before me must have live in London since that was the time zone I found it set to. Also none of my arcade game work for other family members expect me. Time to get back on the phone with these jokers.

My 360 probably would of been back on Monday but instead of using UPS, who did a great job getting it to the repair center, they used FedEx. It was picked up on the 19th and never even headed out of Texas until the 21st. I asked the neighbor kid who works for me to hang out at my place on Wednesday and wait for the package. I told him he could watch all the movies he wanted and play all the games he could play as long as he sign off on the package when it arrived. He seemed more than ok with that.

They're not supposed to. It's total bullshit, but that's the way they designed the system.

My system arrived about 30 minutes ago. It was manufactured on 7/07 and it runs considerably quieter than my previous system. The whole issue with Arcade titles only working while online sucks a bit but I keep my system online 99.9% of the time so it really isn't an issue.

Kind of glad to get a new system too because somehow the spring to the door broke on my old faceplate in front of the USB ports. It was a minor issue but it really bugged me and now I don't have to worry about it.

So I am getting occasional dirty disc errors with brand new games on my 360. I still cant figure out what this is a problem with exactly. Is the 360 scratching my games, is there dust blocking the lens inside, or some other answer? Should I just take it back to EB and get a new one? Any answers would be great.

I got dirty disc errors just before my system died on me. I would return it. No need to take chances if you don't have to.

So how long did it take? I'm still waiting for my coffin to arrive, but I'd like to get an idea of the wait time.

My XBox 360 as the date on it of 9/2/2007.

It has been played almost everyday since my son's BDay (Nov 12th), and many times it has been played atleast 8hrs straight.

It has been running cool, quiet and has not any problems (except when I accidently dropped the controller onto it and then it made a wierd noise until I rebooted it - then it worked fine again).

I have heard that the newer unites are fixed and are not having the same problems.

10 days to get the coffin + 3 days to get the system to the repair center + 5 days for the repair process + 6 days to get the system back = 1 painful wait.

Interesting, i got mines on last Friday and it's a Jul/07 unit as well (Zephyr printed on the outer box, a tiny label). Played Gears for a few hours and everything seems to be in place. I'm gonna try my add-on tonight and see what happens.

Total turnaround time is three weeks, 5+5+5 (coffin+return+receive). I hate the waiting, but at least i got it before Christmas, so it's not shabby...

i'm sorry, but i don't see your problem

it seems your x360 is a good apple among the rest of the crop. I do find the part about your X360 makes a weird noise after you dropped the controller on it a bit funny

10 days to get the coffin?! That alone is a painful wait!

Yeah....I was about ready to go nuts at the end of the first week. I figured the rest of the process would be equally long but thankfully it wasn't as bad as that first part of the return.

I was able to register the "new" replacement on the X360 site. The "new" warranty status shows an expiration date of 11/02/2008 (since my 1st x360 died very shortly after purchase so i can't tell the new warranty is "new" or not). The status also open for repair if it needs to be "repaired," which is logical... So, looks like i'm all set for another year (three years if RRoD, but it's not really stated on the status page)

Stupid question, but when y'all send your 360s to MS in the coffins, are you also sending your hard drives?

Because I bought the CC protection plan (dumb, I know), I sent my 360 to CC's repair center. They couldn't fix the problem, so they sent me a GC (within 10 days of receiving the unit, impressively) for the purchase price instead of sending me a new unit. Because the 360 had to be complete, I had to send my HD.

Now I have a fat GC, but no HD.

Did I just stupidly lose a year's worth of acbhievement points, downloads, etc?

You lost your game saves. You also lost ability to play any purchased arcade games offline. You can do a gamertag recovery with you new system, and get all points/achievements back, though.

The saved games I wasn't too worried about (although my son and I had logged close to 40 hours on Lego Star Wars).

Do I just need to log on to Live to retrieve the achievements?

I had originally called MS on Nov 25th to start a repair order, and I am still waiting for the repaired console. The tracking number shows they just got it on Wed.

No, we keep the hard drive and send in 360 without hard drive.

No, you do not lose any achievement points or downloads (maybe not all). When my hard drive crashed, I bought a new hard drive - got my gametag recovered. I was able to re-download all of my purchased downloads, such as Oblivion download goods, Shivering Isles, and few acrade games - without paying extra.
