Well my 360 just bit the dust again. This will be my 3rd repair, the colors on the screen went all crazy and distorted. This has happened before, and all I had to do was turn it off and put it back on. This time it didn't work I think the video card is dying on me. I ended placing my request for repair online, I really didn't want to speak to some dope on the telephone. Estimated turn around time a month. :(

I'm sure you've already tried this, after having to diagnose multiple failing machines, but for any others reading this...

I almost declared my 360, which would match that description perfectly, prematurely dead once.

I figured the connections had, for some mysterious reason, loosened, so I pushed them all in tighter (or so I thought), but to no avail. Later on, in one last Hail Mary, I unplugged them, then reconnected, and it was indeed the problem.

Thanks for the advice, but I did try unplugging it. In fact I left it unplugged all last night. I just tried it again, it plays fine for about 10mins then the colors start to wash out again.

If I get a 360 at Best Buy, can I return it for a full refund up until January 31st, like all other returns?

How do you Submit a reapir order online? Every time I try to add my serial number to my profile, it says it encountered an error. This is my second RROD, I have had this replacement console for 5 months.

i have the same problem - how difficult can this be? you should be able to type in a serial number and see what the remaining / available warranty services associated with that SN. apple can do this for any hardware of theirs with a SN.

Just keep trying, it should eventually go through correctly.

I had the same issues when I had to send my 360 and I just kept trying until it went through correctly.

Mok 11-26-07 06:13 PM

Make sure your using Internet Explorer it will not work otherwise for submitting a repair order online.

RVP 11-26-07 06:28 PM

Crap maybe that was my problem, I was using Avant Browser.

edit: Nope didn't work with IE either. I just ended up calling them, which isn't that easy either.

kms_md 11-26-07 07:52 PM

i just tried to register a device to my account (using IE in a virtual machine) - again it says "a problem occurred, and your request cannot be completed".

I requested my coffin over a week ago and it still hasn't arrived. So I went out and bought a new 360 last night. Got the Pro bundle with the two free games.

I figure once my unit is repaired I'll just sell it or trade it in. I'm not going 6 weeks+ without my 360.

Surprisingly I didn't have any of the problems that I've read about elsewhere getting all my old content on the new machine. I just snapped on my old hard drive before turning on the new unit for the first time, and everything was as it should be.

Man, what a joke. Why can't MSFT get their shit together?

Mok 11-27-07 10:06 AM

I called to check on my repair order today, and was told that it was not approved (WTF). So I had to request another order with the agent I was speaking to. He told me it would take about 5 days before I got the box to send my 360 back in, it's going to be a long cold December. Mass Effect, COD 4, Rock Band, & GH3 will be just collecting dust for the holidays.

Try playing the content offline or on another gamer tag that didn't purchase the content.

I'm really not sure he said sorry the repair wasn't approved, then he said he would have to file a new one. He claimed if you placed a repair order and it wasn't approved in 24 hours it was no good.

Mok 11-27-07 03:52 PM

Well I tried the towel trick and it bought my 360 back to life. I know it won't last long, but as long as I can get some play time in till my coffin arrives.

What is the towel trick? More info or a link Please. I would love to play some COD4 untill my coffin gets here.

Wrap your 360 in a towel and let it run for a little bit. Supposedly this allows the heat to build up inside and re-solder some connections or cause the graphics card (i think it is the graphics card) to warp back into shape. Some people have had it run perfectly after this for a long time... most it is just a temp fix.

Here is link to a you tube video that explains it.

That's something I would AVOID.

So I'm getting close to selling my 360 as it randomly freezes and last time I talked to MS the best they would do is 100 total to fix it. I'm sick of it and have way too many other things I need to do before I can justify blowing 100 bucks on XBox that I don't use much anyway. I've alerted the potential buyer of it's status and he's ok with that. Before I go ahead and commit to selling it, has MS changed it stance at all? Is it still 3 years just for RROD problems and not for anything else?

Baron Of Hell 11-29-07 04:06 PM

Not that I know of. Most people would force the PROD just for the free fix.

Thanks I off to try it. He mentioned the new chips, are thy fixing the problem? I want to get an elite for the hdmi output but don't want to spend the money if they still have the RRoD problem.

yeah I've been reading about that, knowing my luck i'd end up burning my house down or something :) Maybe I'll just start leaving it on all day but not in a towel or box.
