Yeah we started out getting our asses kicked but then we clicked and started kicking ass. Hell, we didn't even talk to each other and one guy was kinda running ahead of us at one point. But we just stayed on him and I tried to back up any Survivor that ended up alone. We got pretty good at immediately saving each other from specialized infected attacks.

Man I just played with some moron tonight, he kept screaming like a bitch. I couldn't take it anymore and left since everyone else was tolerating him. I was stuck outside the elevator and being swarmed, and he kept calling me an asshole for not getting in the elevator. Complete idiot.

people like that completely ruin the online experience for me. I was in a game of Heavy Weapon once and this one guy kept using the nukes right when they dropped even if nothing was on the screen at the time. Everyone ends up dying but me and I'm trying my hardest not to die and there are no nukes because that guy wasted them all. What do I hear the whole time? "NUKE!!!!! NUKE YOU ASSHOLE NUKE!!!!" and I was like "umm, are you blind? there isn't any to use". Of course I die and I get royally cussed out by the other 3 and then the game host booted me and they all gave me bad rep.

I popped into an L4D online game but didn't actually go live. I just sat and watched for about 30 seconds or so deciding on if I wanted to join in or not. During that 30 seconds all I kept hearing was stuff like "come on you stupid f*cker, move your ass" and so on so I backed out. I don't see the fun in playing with people who take their gaming so damn serious since it's supposed to be "fun" not life or death.

I agree with all of that about ruining the online experience. That is why finding a gaming clan or community that fits your interests is a great thing. Obviously, i'm going to mention 8-Bit Brigade as being a decent place to check out but you could actually look up the Good Game Network. It is, well, a network of gaming clans and communities that all agree to abide by certain codes of conduct and good sportsmanship. It may sound a little lame, but it completely transforms a gaming experience to know you have some buddies backing you up who won't berate you with abusive language. Some of the groups in the GGN are extremely competitive and front squads that have regularly scheduled practices and the like. Us 8BB are a little more casual and laid back about things and more focus on having a good social experience (both in-game and on our forum).

If you want more info or links to our forum and such just message me on Live or PM me.

edit: I just noticed you are from Michigan, i swear it seems like half our clan is in the Michigan/Indiana area.

I put in about 30 hours (including demo time) and only had few bad experiences. Getting bitched at for crap you have no control of is the worst. Having major general barking orders is sometimes bad. Team killer guy is a pain but he is easy to kick.

Funny I was playing with some 9 year old last night and he was pretty good. I couldn't help think I wouldn't let my kid play this game with strangers. I don't scream bad words at people but I do sometime let one fly if I do something dumb. I held back while playing this kid. Left 4 Dead not a kids game people. Be better parents.

Back on topic I can see why no one spoke up for you. They probably didn't know the situation and just took it as something you were doing. I did the same thing you did and just left but next time I think I might try to defend myself. I guess it depends on the game and how I feel about the others playing. Probably wouldn't waste my time on a quick game.

My 8 year old plays online Halo, COD4 & 5, and even LfD. I usually don't mind the swearing because the kids hear all kind of stuff on TV/movies, but when the namecalling starts, he goes mic-less or ends the game. He's an awesome player (got through all 3 Halos, COD4, etc...) so I hate to not let him explore all the game has to offer. He's usually just as good as anyone he plays against.

I don't want this to get too far afield, but is letting 8 year old kids play things like Halo and L4D normal, especially online where some people do take it way too serious? My boy's six, and I think the 'strongest' game he's played or watched me play is Soul Calibur XBLA or Soul Calibur 4. (He's watched me play things like Nocturne Digital Devil Saga, which are rated M partially for content, which went over his head at the age he was when I played them). Halo 3 is a little different from L4D since it's scifi violence and not quite as bloody. Same with movies, what sort of tv/movies is your child watching to "hear all kinds of stuff"? I don't limit him to G-rated movies, but some of the PG movies we've seen are older and tamer than newer ones (we've seen Star Wars IV and V and Superman I and II together, for example).

Some of his favorite movies are T2, Austin powers2, Cast Away, etc..., but he's seen movies like Tombstone, Saving Private Ryan, etc... We don't let him watch movies like Midnight Meat Train & Friday 13th/Nightmare on Elm St. He accepts video game 'horror' for what it is, part of a game. He's played Dead Space, beaten Dead Rising, etc... He forges on Halo3 and makes maps that I couldn't make if I tried. He's very mature/advanced for his age and can differentiate fact & fiction so we let him roll with it, but we do monitor what's going on. He's not allowed to play with a mic on without the sound coming through the TV so we can hear what's being said. Are we bad parents?? I don't think so.

we allow our 11 year old play the halo series, however, not gears of war, dead space, or the COD series. the violence in halo seems to not be nearly as over-the-top as in the other series. in our opinion, COD seems a bit too realistic for him. additionally, we do not allow him online access. of course, this causes problems with our 16 year old. we allow him to play pretty much any game, on or offline, but he has to wait until all his younger brothers go to bed.

All children are different, so you can't say what's right, just what is right for your child. Some have an easier time knowing the difference between a game and real life, others struggle knowing how to process it all.

I just finished the first movie, No Mercy. Holy crap that final scene was intense, even on normal. It took me three tries to survive it, the second time I was at 5 health when rescue came....I didn't make it.
I like the autoshotgun, but its range sucks and its reload time is horrendous.
I take it you have to play all five scenes in a campaign in one sitting to get the "Survive" achievements?

I don't know if it's so much an issue of "reality/fantasy"...my boy knows reality and fantasy, and though he knows in concept what zombies and vampires et al are, and knows that guns are useful but dangerous tools, I don't know if he needs to be watching me blow a zombie's head off with a shotgun at point blank range. Admittedly there's a big difference between 6 and 8 and 11, and a lot can happen in 2 or 3 years. There's still plenty of games for him and I to enjoy together without rushing into scenes of graphic violence.

Yes, you do have to do it in one sitting. And oh, I love the Autoshotty. I always play as Zoey and I've become pretty good with the double handguns but the Autoshotgun is fun fun fun. I'm going to try for the handgun only Achievement one of these days.

I played Death Toll tonight and made it all the way to the boat showing up but I got left by my AI and brutally gang banged by a large horde and a Tank no less just a few feet from the pier entrance. I guess I'll be playing that one through again.

Make sure when you play through for the pistols-only, you don't use any nades or anything.

I thought you could use pipe bombs and the like. What you need to watch though is not using the turret in the last scene of one of the movies. It is also much easier if you go for the achievement when the other 3 people in your party are using all the weapons.

You can use nades and pipe bombs, you just can't fire any other weapon or get on a turret.

Just like the no healing achievement, you can still use the pain pills, just can't be healed.

I played through with only pistols and when I didn't get the achievement I was like WTF??? Then I remembered I used the damn turret. I played it again and got it, but what a pain in the ass using only pistols twice in a row.

For the 'no healing' achievement...does it count against you if someone else heals you? I couldn't stop Zoey from healing me twice so I gave up on the mission.

What Music said. If you are going for the no healing achievement you probably ought to play it with 3 humans in your party since you can tell them to not heal you.

Unless it is Czarcastic. That punk will heal you just to bug you.

You can stop them(AI and I assume humans) from healing you. I happened to me twice where the AI was about heal me and I switched to my own pack or pills and the action was canceled on their part. They just went back to what they were doing.

I wonder if you stop the action before its performed will it still count?

Yeah and I'm guessing one shouldn't even pick up another weapon since it's so easy to hit Y in the heat of battle causing a weapons switch. At least it is for a n00b like me.
