4 survivors vs. 4 other people playing as special zombies.

Groucho 11-11-08 07:55 AM

That's not 8-player co-op -- that's 4 vs. 4 team multiplayer.

mrglass 11-11-08 10:48 AM

Demo is now available on the Marketplace. I'm downloading it now and deep down hope that it sucks. My wallet can't take any more punishment!

Well actually, no one has mentioned 8-player co-op besides the title of this thread. There is no mention of it in the main article quoted, nor have I ever read anywhere that it was 8-player co-op.

ElementZ 11-11-08 11:47 AM

So how's the demo?

Kicker_of_Elves 11-11-08 01:03 PM

Man it's fun. I only played through the single player by myself, cannot wait to play it with some friends. The NPPC are pretty good, they saved my ass a couple of times and also healed me when i needed it.

The thing that stands out for me the most is the Full Captioning mode for the hearing impaired. I have never seen this in a video game and being Hearing impaired myself i think it's freaking awesome. It's not just Subtitles when they're talking, it's everything. It tells you what kind of monster is making noise and what your teammates are saying even during gameplay. It's pretty cool and i hope more companies start doing this.

Groucho 11-11-08 01:14 PM

I can't wait to try the demo. But I still disagree with CKMorpheus's assertion that this has 8-player coop.

Ghym 11-11-08 02:23 PM

I played the demo a little on my PC this morning, before work. Played through the first level. It was a lot of fun. It was crazy when I set off a car alarm, which started a flood of zombies from everywhere. It will be a lot of fun co-op, but the NPCs worked pretty well. Gonna play it some more when I get home.

flashburn 11-11-08 07:39 PM

After playing through the demo, it just felt like a solid "Meh" to me. First off, the game is WAY too fast paced, it felt like everything (including the humans) were moving like 10x faster than they should. Most of the time it felt like I was just fighting "the flood" instead of zombies. Also the fact that the flash light is so focused and everything is completely pitch black except for a very concentrated beam is kind of annoying as well.

I'll probably still rent it, but this demo definitely put my expectations in check.

It's not. Its 4 player co-op. 8 player versus.

Larry C. 11-11-08 07:57 PM

I will be getting this.... On release date if anyone wants o get a Co-op going LMK. My gamertag is in my sig.

RyoHazuki 11-11-08 10:43 PM

I too found the demo a little too hectic for my tastes. The zombie AI and movements were pretty solid but it just feel really arcadey. Co-op should be fun though but its a rental for me.

fujishig 11-11-08 10:48 PM

Wow, I just realized that the OP is from 2007...

Should probably mention that you can preorder this on Amazon for 48.99 (360 version... 53.99 in cart, with $5 off at checkout, PC version is 39.99)

Baron Of Hell 11-11-08 11:56 PM

Just tried the PC demo. It is indeed like being in the remake of the Dawn of the Dead movie. The controls are solid and the zombies act like zombies. The assisting part was done perfectly. It is crazy to see your teammate getting pulled into the air by some monster and then gunning down the monster to make it drop him. The really cool part is the characters have helpful stuff to say like there is extra ammo here, or they will scream for help. So people without mics can get into the game.

Groucho 11-12-08 10:06 AM

For those wondering how this fits with the retail game:

There are four scenarios. Each scenario is divided into five missions. The demo showcases the first two missions of one of them ("No Mercy").

If you play through the demo a few times, you'll see that there is some randomization and variety each time you go through.

I'm still not convinced that there's enough here to pay full retail price, but on the flip side I'm also worried that the online community will have dried up by the time this hits the bargain bin.

I just saw the videos last night and this looks great can't wait to buy!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know if you pre-order a game via amazon does it arrive on the release date or a couple of days later?

Some games offer "release date delivery". If that's not an option, than it ships on the release date generally. Sometimes a day or two before.

Kicker_of_Elves 11-12-08 11:00 AM

I pre-ordered GOW2 from Amazon and got it a day after release using the Free Shipping option.

actyper 11-12-08 11:58 AM

Yeah was really fast paced, felt like I was on auto-run. Will be picking it up though, I heart co-op games.
