To me, I am buying a new system to play new games. BC is more of a convenience than a deciding factor on a new system. I see your point of the 360's reliability tho (crossing my fingers with my Elite).

Besides the space issue of the consoles themselves, there's the space for the peripherals, the extra inputs you need to connect all the legacy systems, etc.

*sigh* so true... if i'm getting a X360, the number of controllers will be out of control
(the wireless ones are cool, but the wired ones are a pain) for that reason, the GameCube is off (again)...

Greenmonkey, i don't know how you handle all that stuffs you hooked up
For me, only the Wii, PS3 and X360 worthy enough for the big screen tv. Everything else, bye bye... Original NES, two Dreamcasts, all go to the basement (maybe one day, i display them as trophies or something).
The main reason i still haven't got the X360, b/c you'll need two devices to play the HD-DVDs (the RROD problem came in 2nd). To me, that's a waste of space and extra wiring...

MC, alright, i misused the word... sorry... let me correct it
When the X360 couldn't do adequate BC, it tells me that MS is lazy or simply don't care...
Errr, the fact that they trying over long period of time doesn't erase the lazy impression in my head.

i think its a question of motivation, really
i think xbox realize that you'd have to purchase these old games used, in which they wouldnt benefit from it at all
also, they purposely hold back BC games, like Riddick, so they get morons like me to buy the game, as well as people that bought the game before and want the new added content.

^ and Top Spin which is far superior to Top Spin 2.
A few things to consider. Of that 78% of PS2 games, how many are 5.1? How many are anamorphic widescreen? Live functionality? Does the PS3 have a different graphics card by a different company than the PS2?
There's more to emulating complicated things like those than hitting a button. The PS3 benefits because a lack of all four of those things.
And adequate is in the eye of the beholder. As they have stated, they have most of the best games working, i.e. the ones people have asked for. Personally, there are only a couple not on the list that I would still be interested in.

I've been enjoying VT3, but it still doesn't hold a candle to TS1. Top Spin just had more realistic ball play on the various courts. More realistic shots and stat building. VT3 is very arcadey, which is fine, but TS1 had that arcade feel with the depth of a sim.
TS2 went entirely sim and took out everything that made TS1 fun.
It might just depend on if you've ever played tennis or just vg tennis. My friends hate real tennis but have a blast with VT3 and couldn't get into TS.

ive played both
I liked the first virtua tennis the most. I like the fact that anyone can presumably pick up the game, and not suck balls the first play through.
Top Spin 1 was VERY good in that they took what was great about VT, and added more realism.
I couldn't stand the unforced airs in that game when using the trigger to hit. Obviously, if I fuck up, I don't mind. I get used it, but when I nail it exactly how the game wants me to, and its out, well, i start shouting explatives at the television

VT3 is pretty cool, i'm playing the demo though, cause i only play it when i'm stressed out and the demo serves that purpose really well...
Anyhow, i need to retract the part i said about my mother-in-law still using a tube tv. It turns out, my brother-in-law got her a 42" LCD, good for them! Well, of course, my brother-in-law uses it too. And for that upgrade, i just ordered a 2nd PS3, for my in-laws ($499shipped from Amazon). Obviously, my brother-in-law gonna use the PS3 more often that the mother-in-law.
The main reason i got them the PS3 not b/c they got a HD TV, b/c i want to be able to share family videos more effectively... My brother already got a PS3 (and a Sony HD Camcorder). So basically, very soon, we're gonna share HD family videos using the PS3. Not only that, with the PSPs, remote play gonna do a lot of cool things on top of what we have.

Take this with a grain of salt...I honestly don't see how this could be true.
Supposedly, the price drop will only pertain to the 60gb model, which will no longer be available in the US once current supplies run out.

It's actually effective. They can boast multiple price drops while not really dropping the cost of entry. When word gets out that the $500 model is being phased out, sales on those go up because people who don't want to spend the extra $100 buy them up before they're gone.

If Sony is actually that fucking stupid to price drop the PS3, which was igniting sales, only to drop the 60GB for the $600 80GB one, they deserve every bit of bad press and being in third place that comes to them.
They are just making mistake after mistake. And here I thought with the price drop and their E3 conference, they might be making a little push. If this is true, they just wasted all of that. Unbelievable.

Unbelievable is all I have to say. When do they start getting bad press for this? After all the price cut hype, and extra sales too. And I was starting to think about getting a PS3, but once again I don't want to support them with crap like this.

I'm convinced that they do not want to win the console war this gen.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves has told GamesIndustry.biz that PlayStation 3 will be the clear leader in the next-gen console market within the next nine months.
"PlayStation 3, you will see, will be far and away the winner when you look at it by March '08. They really, really will," he predicted.
