Best Blu-ray movie player on the market. If you are even considering HD movies buy a PS3 when the price drops.

While this is nice, will it really wow those who thought $500 for the 20GB model was too much?

With the price drop I will be getting a PS3 for Blu-ray alone.

Games are an added bonus :-)

is this for the 60gb system or the 20gb? If this is true, I hope it holds up, I might finally buy one by the end of this year, and maybe they will actually sell now instead of sitting on store shelves collecting dust.

The 20GB model does not exist anymore. Sony stopped producing it a couple months ago.

It's just the price you pay for being an early adopter of any new technology. Wait long enough and you can get a $50 HD-DVD or Blu-ray player at Wal-mart.

I'm still gonna wait. There are not enough (any?) games I really want to play on it yet.

As for the 5 free blu-ray discs, that is nice, but looking at the list, they are all titles I don't want, too. They should just give a voucher for $100 toward the purchase of any blu-ray discs of your choice.

While a 100 dollar price drop is enticing... I'm gonna wait and see if there any games worth getting that I can't get on my 360 or PC.

Yeah, I'm going to wait and see next gen too... of course, that's what I said about this gen.

I can't remember a console dropping it's price this soon, or at the very least before it had at least a couple of killer apps. Up to this point, the only PS3 games I own are one that was bundled with the system (Genji), one that was dirt cheap used (VF5), one that I imported (Gundam Musou) and one that I got on the PS3 just to have a game on the PS3 (Darkness).

I do love the Bluray player, though.

Here's the confirmation by GameDaily: http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=16721

The price cut takes effect July 12th - the day after Sony's E3 press conference.

GTA4 and Gran Turismo might get me to buy this system... but having just purchased a Wii, and getting ready for my wedding, and buying a house... I think it will still have to wait for a while...

Still going to wait too. I knew a price drop would be announced soon but I just can't justify $500. Sales have been poor and they are just collecting dust on the store shelves unlike the first 4-5 months after the PS3 was released.

My interest in this announcement isn't because of what Sony is doing, but what Microsoft might do.

I want to want a 360, but the price is a bit much. The new warranty helps too. Plus the games I want to play (Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata) are finally coming.

I wonder what this will do to those economies of scale for Blu-Ray Sony was betting the PS3 would provide?

I'm SOOOOO glad I waited. I need the WiFi, but didn't want to pony up the extra money for it. Great news.

Check out Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and Ratchet and Clank. All are among my most anticipated games of the year.

The original XBox was released in November 2001 and had it's first price drop in May 2002, IIRC. . .

Heavenly Sword and Lair look fairly meh outside of some nice visuals.

Uncharted, though, is one of my more anticipated games. I grew tired of R&C.
