Just to clarify, the 65 nm consoles are still coming out in the near future, but there will be 45 nm consoles a long ways down the road.

The 65nm is a definate. I posted in the general 360 forum an article stating they have already shipped from China/Taiwan. I believe IBM was going to help out also. Their Fishkill, NY plant was making the chips, sending them to Quebec to be assembled. I believe this has been happening for a few months now. A few friends of mine work at the Fishkill plant, and have confimed this.

Did anyone hear this one?: MS is only using 65nm for cpu and not ATI's gpu. I thought it was the gpu that was causing the problems. :scratch2:

Is that true? The Halo edition is 65nm? If yes, i might just get it instead waiting till the end of the year... And yes, why 20G? sigh...

yeah if it wasn't 20g, i might have bought one. i wouldn't have minded the extra cost to put one in or anything, but going cheap on a special console is not the way to go.

After months of denials about the chips' very existence, it turns out the cooler-running, more power-efficient 360 CPUs were hiding in the recently arrived Halo 3 Special Edition systems. We were probably all too distracted by their hideous pea-green casing to notice. Fortunately they should be a lot more widespread by the time you read this, likely being dropped into the easier-on-the-eyes Premium units as well. |

Also, the chips do not necessarily run cooler. Nm refers to the size of the chip, not the heat it produces. You quoted a post of mine from way back in July. Back then, Microsoft never said anything about the 65nm or 45nm chips, and they were just rumors at the time... A lot has changed since July... |
