Re: Video game podcasts
Yep, still love CAG. Cheapy does ramble about himself a bit too much, but I think I like it because both him and Wombat speak their mind, quite freely at that. They don't seem to give a shit about industry pressure so if something is shit, they call it. It's quite a contrast to Major Nelson. Between him and E they have never met a game they didn't like.
Although Lollip0p has been an excellent addition.
I keep Rebel FM in my subscriptions but listen to maybe 30 minutes or so of each one before I wonder why I keep listening to them.
So it sounds like 4 Guys, 1 Up is going to be similar? That's very disappointing. Hopefully John Davidson will be able to pull one together for Gamepro once he gets acclimated there. And you know Garnett will be back with something. Those are the only two on Listen/1up that I cared about anyhow.
As posted above I'm still really enjoying the MOBCast. I only listen to the episodes with Dan Shoe though. I love the format.
Gamers With Jobs is still hit or miss. Still too much PC stuff. Also they think their weekly topics are more intelligent than they actually are.
I just tried out a new one on Friday based on a friend's recommendation. Chicken Pop. He recommended I start with episode 45.5 (?) so that's all I've listened to. Apparently the .5 episodes aren't in their normal format, but it was entertaining. It was just the guys playing game music trivia. I haven't listened to a normal episode yet, but my friend loves it. Apparently they cover more than gaming.

Shipwreck also gives accurate in depth reviews.
Bombcast and Hotspot are other faves. IGN and PC gamer just bore me to death.

Re: Video game podcasts
Does anyone know of any good video game podcasts with AAC feeds? I find myself listening to less and less of the podcasts because they start talking about a game I am not interested in and there is no real easy way to skip ahead to the next section, title, etc

And on a related note, what is up with podcasts that don't do show notes? Is there anything more pompous? "Well people will listen to us no matter what we have to say so specific discussion points aren't needed." Uh...no. I won't.

We don't do chapters on the podcast I co-host because we are lazy and already do way too much damn work for free on it, but I can't imagine the rambling mess we'd have if we didn't have a line-up every week.

<----------------- Missing the old 1up podcast. I can't believe how much I miss listening to John and especially surprised at missing Garnett (didn't care for him much at the time).
Really, really don't like the new format with guests and generally the way David Ellis is doing the show.
And I just started listening to Idle thumbs about a month before they went away.
Sigh, any ideas?

Yeah, 4 Guys, 1up has fallen to "listen to if I'm bored" instead of "listen to first thing Monday morning at work."

The only one I actually look forward to now is Drunken Gamers.
It's just getting started, but the Game Informer podcast is pretty decent, along with the Hotspot.

Just recently started on "Call of Podcast". Has quite a Japan slant, one of the guys works in Japan as a producer for a Japanese publisher. Worth checking out if you like your usual games chat spiced with some Japan scene insight/gossip.

I haven't even listened to 4 Guys 1 Up since it's started. Sad to hear that it's gone downhill. (As long as it's not just a product of people missing the old cast.) I've actually found the attitudes of a lot of remaining 1UP folks to not really be that enjoyable for awhile now.

I've been listening to it and it's OK... at least Parish is nowhere near as whiney as he was on retronauts (at least back when I listened to that he was a whiney bitch
).

It was great however to hear John Davison on the Mobcast this week!

The 4 Guys 1 Up is just kind of dull.

Anymore, i listen to:
Signed In
The Geekbox
Major Nelson
Brigadier Broadcast (my gaming clan's podcast)
Mobcast
I also agree it was awesome hearing John on the newest Modbcast.

Re: Video game podcasts
I have to say, I'm getting pretty tired of video game podcast that are done by vg journalists. It seems like they can't go 2 episodes without bringing up the whole video game reviews discussion. Are they worth it? What's a good scale to use? Why do people read reviews? Blah, blah, blah. Shit is so played. I thought the conversation was interesting when I first heard it (in podcast form) 4 years ago, but now? Lets let that one go.
Of the 4 Guys 1 up episodes I've listened to, I thought they were ok. The show is a little drier now, but it still beats a blank. Still, I really miss the Luke, Shane, John, Garnett glory days. Those days were really special, and it's only that much more evident the further away 1up gets away from them.

Re: Video game podcasts
Just a bump to inform that one of my favorite podcasts is back:
Idle Thumbs has relaunched as "The Idle Thumbs Podcast", and it's on episode 3.
Chris Remo and Jake Rodkin are still on the show, and Nick Breckon has been replaced by Steve Gainer, who used to guest from time to time anyway.
It was also kind of cool to hear Shane on 4 Guys 1 Up last week.
