Re: Video game podcasts
The very opening of the segment he's speaking in a voice that sounds like he's making fun of super nerdy gamers. "let me tell you why video games are amazing", it made me laugh. But then when he keeps on going I really started to feel embarrassed for him like boredsilly said. But man some of that dialogue was funny as hell. "I just don't know if I can wrap my hands around that boner". Garnett would try to help him out by translating what the dude was saying into a language people can understand and then he would interrupt Garnett and say "let me talk to you about this!!!"

Really? I thought it started strong, but limped along the longer it went.

The last segment wasn't my favorite, but the interview with the indy developer guy who lives in NY was my favorite segment on the show by a mile. I just love listening to fascinating people talk. I guess that made up the difference.

Re: Video game podcasts
superfro,
I just added your podcast to my cue (listening right now actually) and it's pretty good. I'm generally wary of platform specific podcasts, but half of the ones I listen to are 360 podcasts anyway as a practical matter...and most games are cross-console.
Maybe I missed it, but I couldn't find the RSS feed on your homepage...had to google it. You should add a link somewhere.

ListenUp is pretty much dead now that Garnett Lee has left 1up for Shacknews. http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/60653

Hopefully there is one last Listen Up planned because those TGS one's aren't worth listening to.

Sad news, but I'm happy for Garnett. He did say David Ellis will take over his duties on Listen Up. Also there will be one last show with all them next week.

Re: Video game podcasts
Although I disagree with him more often than not, it really was "his.....show".
He has a great radio voice, that made the show seem more professional, even when it wasn't. Lots of personalities have left the show over the years, but this is the first time somebody leaving makes me question whether the show will or should continue.

Re: Video game podcasts
I don't think Garnett was ever my favorite of the 1Up crew, but he's grown on me over the last year or two, and he was clearly a key part of 1Up Yours and Listen Up.
So...is 1Up on its last legs at this point? I stopped visiting the site itself after the layoffs but I still listen to Listen Up and Retronauts (and sometimes Good Grief and at1Up when I'm really bored). It doesn't seem like there's much of the original crew left now.

Re: Video game podcasts
This is really disappointing. 1Up Yours and then Listen Up were by far my favorite video game podcasts. I actually looked forward to listening to them at work each week.
I don't know what I will do now. I have never been to Shacknews, is it a gaming site (I'm behind work filters so can't check atm)? Has Garnett indicated he will be continuing a podcast there?
I'm so lost now. Without my weekly dose of gaming news work will suck a little bit more.

Re: Video game podcasts
I will say that I'm glad to hear David Ellis is continuing on with the show. In the past I've found myself liking his contributions quite a bit. But a lot of times that seemed to be being a voice of reason to Garnett, so I wonder how the dynamic will work with him gone.

I think as long as John keeps coming around I'm good to go. Over the past few months the weakest episodes were always the ones when he's not there.

Has that been addressed anywhere yet?

I like the concept of WhatTheyPlay but always felt their web design worked against them. The layout is garish and too gamer-centric not parent-centric.
I guess that won't improve if IGN is in charge either.

Re: Video game podcasts
ugh I didn't know about WhatTheyPlay signing with IGN. With no John or Garnett, I hope we don't end up with only David and Sam Kennedy, maybe they can add Sharky or Tina Sanchez to the mix.

Re: Video game podcasts
Ugh, i despise IGN.
I wonder if John and such stayed with Garnett because it was 1Up or because it was friendship with Garnett. If it is the latter maybe they will continue over to do a podcast with ShackNews?

Re: Video game podcasts
Bummer about Garnett and Listen Up. Hopefully he'll start something new.
With that out of my rotation, Idle Thumbs, GWJ and Drunken Gamers are my new favorites.
