Left thumbstick -- excellent. I'll try that when I get home tonight.

You cannot use the arm for that particular task, you'll be able to get that envelope later on in the game.

Beat it yesterday. The game is a bit short, and the challenge (at least on normal) just is not there. As I complained about before, I wish there were better boss battles. There was one boss battle that I still don't understand how I won.

I like all the bonuses that get unlocked (though listening to all those phone calls gets annoying)... a copy of Darkness number 1 and other Top Cow comics, pretty cool. Also, the little TVs are cool. But I can't help thinking that they included all that because they had so much room to spare in the game... the whole game world is pretty small.

Finally got past where i was stuck. I was an idiot.

I also was ecstatic to see one of the extras unlocked was the first issue of Magdalena. I think i have the entire run of that comic and always found it way more fun than the Darkness.

Michael Corvin 07-16-07 02:13 PM

Just finished last night. Great game. Could have used at least one more chapter, if not two, but overall, very satisfying. Just gotta head back and clean up on the single player achievements I didn't get. I think I have roughly 70 of the unlockables so far. Not sure if I'll bother with the MP ones.

After finishing it last night, I rebooted Chapter 5 to get the Darkness Master achievement and chose differently when Jimmy the Grape offers the position of The Don to me. I originally passed on the offer, so I figured I would accept this time and get a different ending. Nope, same ending. I was kinda disappointed.

I also bumped the difficulty up to Hard. I didn't notice a big difference from Normal. I figured I would have some difficulty at the lighthouse, but not so much.

Spoiler:
I'm heading into the Turkish Baths. I kept getting stuck at an door that can't be opened and there is poison gas coming out of the floor. I finally broke down and looked at a FAQ and see you need to use the Black Hole to get through part of that tunnel. The problem is i have only eaten like 194 hearts so i don't have the Black Hole.

I left the tunnels and have been wandering around everywhere and i can't find any cops or anything to kill to get more hearts. :( I checked the FAQ again and i have done all the sidequests up to this point so i have no clue what to do now or where to find some baddies to eat hearts. Any ideas? If i start the chapter over again will all the quests reset for the chapter and i will still have 194 hearts so i will be able to get Black Hole?

I know you are already past, but if anyone plays through again or is just starting out, you can help your situation by:
Spoiler:
putting a nearby crate on top of the vent spewing gas. Then you can stand there freely without taking damage.

I kept trying that and could never get the positioning correct. It turns out

Like a complete idiot i didn't notice the window over the door to send the Creeping Darkness through -ohbfrank-

Spoilery question about Chapter Three of the game:
Spoiler:
I did the mission where you show up in Gun Hill to kill Shrote (the police captain) and he gets away in the helicopter. Now I'm supposed to go to City Hall and steal his stash, but before I do that, I'm doing the side mission where Vinny sends me around to kill various thugs Uncle Paulie has brought in to town. The last guy Vinny sent me to kill is supposedly staking out the Shrote's place, and he's supposedly at a high elevation. I know I chased Shrote out of his building and across the roofs of Gun Hill, but now that that's over, I can't get back up there. Have I screwed myself out of completing Vinny's side quest

UncleGramps 07-16-07 03:54 PM

I picked this up last week and got insanely drawn into it. I beat it over the weekend, and while it was a great experience, I can't see going back to it much, so I tossed it on Half. I bought it with store credit so it worked out all right. It was awesome to play an FPS with a great story, memorable characters, and emotional impact. The scene where
Spoiler:
The Darkness restrains you and forces you to watch while Paulie murders Jenny
actually got me a little choked up. And the plot twist after that is great.
Spoiler:
I had only seen screenshots from NYC, so the Hell/Purgatory twist was a big surprise for me.
I'd highly recommend a rental for this one since it's great but pretty short.

That's the one I actually had to look at an FAQ to find:
Spoiler:
There's actually a window on the second floor that you can send the creeping dark through to kill the guy. I think it's closer to the place with the elevator (as opposed to the other dead end alley), above some grafitti... really, really tough to find.

JasonF 07-16-07 04:39 PM

Thanks fujishig!

Michael Corvin 07-16-07 06:18 PM

I have to say thanks to fujishig as well. That's one I didn't find. I did the side quests before chasing Eddie, but I couldn't find that guy. I sent my creeping dark up and down those buildings too. I guess I just missed it.

xmiyux 07-17-07 04:07 PM

Son of a bitch. I got tagged with a glitch that locks up the game every time in Chapter 5. I have to restart the game at chapter 3 to get past the glitch. So a warning to everyone.

Supposedly if you do the second mission for the harmonica player and/or (forum posts are conflicting) kill the Pajamas guy when Vinnie is handing out missions then you will lock up every time when going to the lower east side in Chapter 5.

The solution is supposedly to start over at chapter 3 and skip all sidequests until you make it to chapter 5 - and start the Mother of God quest.

A warning to everyone. :(

I did the second harmonica mission in Chapter 3 but not the Pajamas mission and had no lock-up when I hit the Lower East Side in Chapter 5.

xmiyux 07-18-07 08:03 AM

Hrm, ok good to know. Is the Pajamas mission given to you in chapter 3 as well?

cerial442 07-18-07 08:15 AM

For those who finished it, how long is this the game? I've heard it is shorter than most titles, and if thats the case I'm going to wait on a price drop.

Canis Firebrand 07-18-07 08:16 AM

I think it comes in about 8-10 hours depending on if you do all the side missions or just the main story.

It is easily worth it, however. The game has an amazing story and is one of the best games I've played on the 360 so far.

Michael Corvin 07-18-07 08:37 AM

8-10 sounds about right with the side missions. Achievements will double that easily. Even more if you are hell bent on getting the MP ones.

Canis Firebrand 07-18-07 08:47 AM

Yeah, I still have to go back and do the MP achievements. Then I plan on starting the game over on harder difficulty to pick up any SP achievements I missed along the way.

Michael Corvin 07-18-07 09:01 AM

I wouldn't mind doing the MP ones with some DVDtalkers. Hit me up if you see me on. Probably be Thurs or Fri.

I've already done Chapter 5 on hard and am halfway through Chapter 1. It's amazing how many collectible papers you can find in Chapter 1 with the Creeping Darkness. My first time through I didn't have the complete grasp of how the game was shaping up so I missed a lot, especially since I didn't backtrack or wander too much, especially during the helicopter sequence.

According to the Xbox forums there is a glitch on the hard achievement. It doesn't always unlock. Supposedly this is only if you started the game on hard, from reports there, of course. There are some reporting that it took 5 play-throughs on hard to get it to unlock. So here's hoping... :fc:

Canis Firebrand 07-18-07 09:04 AM

I got a good majority of the little letters you find throughout each chapter. I do believe that I missed the most during the

hell level
parts.

Some MP with DVDTalkers would be great to work on getting achievements for everyone.

Michael Corvin 07-18-07 09:06 AM

Yeah, I got around 60-70 on my first time through. I should be hitting that 75 collectibles achievement soon. It's nice that they tell you which numbers you missed, but a bummer they only list 5 at a time since they aren't in any particular order throughout the game.

I wandered around a bunch in the area you mentioned. I'd be surprised if I find any a second time through.

The hard glitch i had read comes about if you start a game on hard, play a multiplayer match at some point, then the game reverts to medium when you continue the single player.

To be honest though the MP sucks horribly horribly bad. The developers even admitted it was tacked on and it shows. Laggy, lots of warping, plays completely different from the single player. Bleck.

Single player though... easily the best single player experience i have had on the 360 so far. Not so replayable though so it makes a great rental/Gamefly choice.

I didn't get it until Chapter 5, but I wasn't looking for it either, so I'm not sure if I could have gotten it if I had tried.

Mikael79 08-20-07 10:26 AM

I'm bringing this thread back from the dead because I rented this and started playing it last night. So far it's alright, but I'm not exactly enjoying using the Darkness as much as I had hoped. I almost wish it was just a straight-forward shooter without a gimmick.

Michael Corvin 08-20-07 10:29 AM

Once you get further into the game that gimmick is mostly what you will use, not your guns.

I thought it was great. Could have been a hair longer. Liked the story. Just wish the multiplayer wasn't complete ass. Played through on both difficulties and didn't have much trouble on either. Already sold it.
