I have zero nostalgia for the Doom series (wasn't a PC player growing up) so this wasn't really on my radar but after hearing the guys rave about it on the Bombcast I gave it a shot. Glad I did, fun campaign, some tense battles and a great exploration/collectible system. Now that I finished it I'll probably go back and look for more secrets.

Grey market sites are around $36.
Fair warning on the PC but right now if the game ever crashes, or even sometimes if it doesn't, the game will get put into "developer mode" which disables all achievements and collectible rewards. The only "fix" right now is to delete your save game... until it happens again... rinse and repeat. Hopefully they'll put up a fix this week.

Thanks guys. I ended up seeing the special edition at Best Buy (with the ridiculous statue ) and bought it. At least I got a bit of a discount due to my rewards card.
I'm 3 levels in, but the game is a lot of absurd fun. I suck at MP, though.

still having a ton of fun with this. don't know what mission i am on (probably still near beginning), but damn if it isn't getting harder and harder...
one question...i got the chainsaw, probably early on, used it, loved it (as it spewed ammo when i sliced a demon in halvsies), then i died and did not have it in my weapons cache when i re-spawned. still saw gas canisters to pick up, but couldn't bc no more chainsaw. what gices with that?

You hit the X button (on the Xbox One) or Square button (PS4) to get to the Chainsaw (I'm not sure what it is on the PC), it doesn't show up on the weapon wheel.
Similarly, later on

The weapon wheel is for your guns. The chainsaw is for melee.

I just finished the campaign. Really fun game. I missed a ton of secret locations but I really didn't spend a lot of time looking for them. My biggest complaint was with the weapon selection wheel. Since I have my controls inverted it made picking weapons really tough. I think they should have put the selection on the D-pad instead.

Just finished this as well. Great game. Dang if it didn't get super tough at the end. I'll probably spend a few more hours with it mopping up achievements and the snap map. I'm so glad I went this route picking it as my free game from Microsoft over Homefront. Still want to play Homefront but I'll wait for 15 used.

man, does this game really make good use of ratcheting up the difficulty on the demons as you progress. i am actually scared of what is yet to come.
just came across this behemoth of a demon that takes quite a few licks to beat. i started using the assault rifle more, but find the ammo isn't as prevalent as shotgun. and god forbid i ever come across a gas canister for the chainsaw.
so cool that you really have to think about what to use and how to use it, like the chainsaw for ammo drops, glory kills for health, etc...

Yeah, the glory kill bonuses add a surprising amount of strategy.
I finally had time to finish the game, and I absolutely loved it. This is my GOTY so far, though I haven't played Uncharted 4 yet. I plan on playing it again on a harder difficulty, you could see where they gave you a nudge here and there in the form of weapon and life bonuses.
More games need actual cool bonuses/secrets. I liked that it was so easy to miss them, very true to the originals

Definitely my GOTY as well after my first play through. The last two years have brought the Wolfenstein games in May, and now this one. This kind of shooter is just ridiculously fun. One question though - does anyone else find the map to be borderline useless as far as actual navigation goes? Is it just supposed to tell you the general location of things while tricking you into thinking you can go from one point to the next?

Caved in and bought it today on PC. Just played through the first mission - not really blown away yet, but hopefully it'll open up as I get more weapons

Yeah, check your expectations. Most of us playing it the first weekend it came out weren't expecting much, so we were pleasantly surprised and impressed. Now that the hype is way up, people are gonna be expecting to be "blown away".

I'm an old school shooter fan and PC player, so by "blown away" i'm referring to my expectations on matching those old games and game play moreso then some epic experience.

What makes you think anyone here expected anything "epic"? Look where you are. We're all old geezers that have been playing these goddamn games since day-one. Doom2 was the very first game I downloaded to my PC - it took overnight too!
Anyways, as far as "old school shooter" not having to reload and having all guns available at once is a huge fucking deal these days.

Has anyone been able to get a multiplayer game of this going on the Xbox One? I have very little interest in the mode, but I figured I'd give it a fair shot. However, anytime I try to get into a match, it just keeps looking for players for 15 minutes. I get that it isn't popular but sheesh.

man, i am having delirious fun with this. just got one of those rune challenges (where you have to kill a certain amount of hell spawn with a timer) and it really adds something to it. not to mention the rune perk that it comes with.
so many cool things in this game. fast and furious is the way to be!
