What things can you download on the PS3?

Can you take PS2 games and save them in the HD?
There's gotta be a limit right, since anybody can just rent games and save them instead of buying them.

You can't download PS2 games. There are some PS1 games, arcade hits, and orignal games on the PSN however.

Yeah, the PS3 is not a system where you can just rip files to the HDD. You can rip MUSIC to the HDD, not games.

All the PS1/PSN games you download are at a cost (some free, like GT4 and some Starter Packs). Still no demos of PSN/PS1 games (like the 360 XBLA). Since I never owned a PS1, this is the biggest drawback for me. I would like to TRY some of those games, but I won't pay for that without a taste first. XBLA has spoiled me.

Yeah, I was pretty underwhelmed by the Heavenly Sword demo also. As big as the download was, I don't know why it was so short. Fight a couple guys on this platform, then fight some more guys in another area, and that's it.

Also, the controls seemed a little sluggish. I recently played and beat God of War for the first time this past week, so I suppose I was expecting Heavenly Sword to play somewhat similarly. I really wanted to enjoy the demo, so that perhaps it would give me something to look forward to, but I just didn't have any fun with it. I'm sure the full version will be better, but I'm not nearly as excited about it anymore.

I have my PS3 and HD-A2 both hooked up to my Sony 46E2000 thru HDMI. Then I have optical out on the TV to my Onkyo receiver. The problem is when I play a movie on the HD-A2 my receiver isn't very loud. It sounds a lot different than when I have the optical going directly from the receiver to the HD-A2. The PS3 is the same way. Is the optical out on the Sony just a pass thru or am I losing something by using it?

How do you have your PS3 hooked up? Optical directly to receiver?

Based on the demo, it doesn't feel as epic as God of War does. It has some nice combos in it, but the controls will take some getting used to. You have to hold R1 to use the power stance, and L1 to use the quick stance. Blocking is supposed to be automatic, as long as you're not attacking, but I never seemed to block any attacks. What bugged me was that when you try to move the character, it doesn't seem like she responds right away. Like, if you press left to run left, there's a slight delay between the time you move the stick and the time she actually starts running on screen.

Does the TV have an adjustment for the optical output level? I'm not sure if anything happens to the signal when being converted from HDMI to optical although, from what I understand, nothing should be happening to it.

I have the digital audio going directly to my receiver so I can have everything on a separate receiver input.

You can use the right analog stick and she will dive in the direction you point it to. Blocking is automatic, however there is no blocking in the range stance. Also you can only block the orange attacks in the heavy stance.

That could be because your TV may only accept one flavor of data, then send out another. And chances are it's goign to have to be converted while en route from the tv to the optical out of the tv - so you'll likely lose some strength this way.

When I initiall had mine use HDMI to the TV then coax from the tv to receiver, nothing came out in DD - it was all pro-logic. Swapped to use optical straight from the ps3 and it allowed other types (DTS, DD, etc)

Ok that must be the problem because my receiver doesn't say DTS, DD unless the audio is directly connected. That sucks.

I've got a stupid question: how do I download stuff from the PS3 webpage? I open the PS3 browser, it takes me to the Playstation Portal Page. I can click on "Demos" and then hover over the demos. How do actually download the demo or video that I'm hovering over. I've pushed every key on the controller and nothing happens (besides asking if I want to leave or reload the page). Please help. I feel like an idiot.

It sounds like you're using the internet browser. Use the Playstation Store instead.

I was. I suppose this means you can't download from the internet browser then. Seems counterintuitive. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated.

Yup. They work pretty well as background wallpapers for the PS3 too.

EGM supposedly gave Lair a 6.0, 5.5, 5.0.

It wasn't a good month for the big releases, in terms of EGM reviews:
Lair: 6.0, 5.5, 5.0
Blue Dragon: 6.5, 7.5, 6.5
Guitar Hero 80s: 7.5, 6.0, 6.0
Mario Strikers: 7.5, 7.5, 7.5

The videos of Lair just reminded me too much of the last GameCube Star Wars game I hated from them with a Dragon instead of an Xwing. This was a no buy for me, but the 6.0 pretty much cements it. Once again a developer leaves Nintendo and falls flat on their face.

The problem with Guitar Hero 80s is a mediocre song list and a $50 price tag.
I still want to play Blue Dragon though.
