IGN's Prince of Persia Classic review
Finally, an XBLA that I actually want!! I am glad to hear they toned down the difficulty since the original was impossibly hard. It was one of the few games I never could beat.
Closing Comments
It's been years since I played the original POP. It's a game I couldn't finish as a kid, but thanks to Gameloft's friendly redesign, I've raced through it four times now. The seeds of Ubisoft's recent Prince trilogy on Xbox can be found here -- even the dark alter-ego of the Prince plays a role.
Prince of Persia Classic is certainly short, but it's oh so sweet. This is one of the best games released on XBLA to date and the template all future enhanced classic games should follow. If it weren't for the brevity of the experience, POP Classic would be, well, an instant classic. Still, if you can accept that you won't get more than a couple hours enjoyment from the $10 download, do yourself a favor and check out Prince of Persia Classic. It's one of the elite among Xbox Live Arcade games.
7.0 Presentation
Three different leaderboards and a cool ghost option add a lot. But the overall packaging is fairly standard XBLA fare.
9.0 Graphics
The best-looking XBLA game to date. The animations are better than some regular Xbox 360 titles. Preserves the great art style of the original series.
7.5 Sound
Decent ambient noise and a great score that oddly only plays in the menus. Voices for the cut scenes would have been a welcome addition.
9.0 Gameplay
It's the layout of the classic original, but with better controls and a less frustrating difficulty level.
3.0 Lasting Appeal
You have to finish the game in under 60 minutes. And all that's left is replaying the same 60-minute scenario in hopes of bettering your time.
8.6 OVERALL

Looks decent but 2 hours for $10? I don't know about that one. Sounds like instead of toning down the original they totally babyfied it.

Babyfied? The only thing that looks too babyfied to me is that the one hour time limit is basically meaningless. The review states that if you take more than an hour (and get the princess dying cutscene) you can still keep playing and get to the end of the game where the princess is magically still alive.
The instant death traps and the tough combat are still in. Checkpoints have been added too which is good IMO. The only thing I don't like is the meaningless time limit thing.

Ummm, so exactly WHY do you only have 60 minutes to complete the game? I never played any of the PoP games -- is this a common feature? I hate timed sequences / games -- it adds unnecessary stress and takes away from the gameplay.

It's a far cry from the style and length of games today. Pole Position also had a time limit for each checkpoint.

It has been ages since I played the original, so this is the basic plot as I remember it: (This could be minor spoilers if you really care about the plot of the original game).
The Sultan of Persia is away on a foreign mission when the Vizier turns traitor and seizes the throne for himself. He throws the Prince in prison and gives the Princess an ultimatum: to marry him or die. He turns an hourglass (the Sands ot Time actually!!) and says that when the sands run out, she will die unless she agrees to marry him. The sands will run out in one hour. The game is played in real time, so therefore the Prince has one hour to escape from the prison, work his way to the throne room, kill the Vizier, and save the princess.
In a lot of ways, the recent Sands of Time game on PS2, Xbox, and Cube was actually a remake of the original game. Many of the plot elements were carried over.

Was trying to play some Burnout on Live last night and got to wondering, do any Live enabled games have PC style game browsers? Meaning ones that show PING and show more than a few games. Seems like the few games I've tried all have very simplified browsers. The bar system used by GoW seems pretty generous with it's connection ratings. I can get 6 games with 3 full bars and maybe manage to get into 1 that isn't laggy.
Maybe it's the nature of how games are played on Live as opposed to on the PC. But, I never have a problem playing a lag free online game on my PC. My 30 day trial ends in a couple of weeks and so far, the Live experience has not impressed.

Well, I doubt it's my connection as I am hard wired and rarely have my PC on when using the 360. Never have lag problems on my PC games (FEAR, Wolf ET, UT2004 etc...).
I guess I'm just annoyed that it's more of a crapshoot when entering a game. The fact that I can play a lag free 32 player UT2004 match and have trouble consistently finding stable Gow and Burnout games doesn't help. Surprisingly, though, Unreal:Liandri Conflict (old Xbox game) plays great just about every time I'm able to find a game.

Too bad host servers aren't utilized (what are we actually paying for anyway??).

No Xbox 360 Price Drop, Says Microsoft
Microsoft executive denies rumors.

June 11, 2007 - Looks like those waiting for an Xbox 360 price cut are out of luck, if recent comments by Microsoft executive David Hufford are any indication. Hufford had spoken out about the Xbox 360's high price point in a recent Bloomberg article, saying that Microsoft is "well aware that the sweet spot of the market is really 199 bucks." The resultant media buzz led many to speculate that Microsoft intended on dropping the price of the 360 in the near future to compete with the Wii's "strong value proposition." Now, Hufford has come forward to put such speculation to rest.
In talking with Gamerscoreblog.com, Hufford denied rumors of price cuts, stating that "the comment, which is accurately reported, unfortunately has now been taken way out of context and being reported as if I am signaling a price drop. I was not, I am not." Hufford continued, "With Xbox 360s selling well at their current price point, Elites selling out at $479, and an insanely great portfolio of games in the market, there's no reason to announce any kind of price drop any time soon."
Anyone holding out for that "inevitable" price drop is just going to have to keep on waiting.
