Wonder how many Boston bands they'll have in the bonus songs. Not complaining, just making an observation. Boston's has/had an excellent music scene for quite some time now.

But GH3 is not being made in Boston. Harmonix has nothing to do with this anymore, and it's going to be all Neversoft, so if anything, we might see some local Cali bands.

Maybe this sounds like a job for Mordred.

Now to convince my wife to move halfway across the country to a ridiculously expensive state where I'd be making half what I do now for what is probably a temp position.

Find out how long they'd need you and take a leave of absence/vacation for that time

It's really going to suck if GHIII isn't compatible with the existing guitars.
It wouldn't surprise me, though.

Guitar Hero 3 video:

It looks like the button changes are purely cosmetic, which is what I thought when I read "new button color design".

That proto-type guitar looks like shit. I'll stick with my 360 explorer. I sure hope they offer this game without the guitar. And I would think neversoft would have changed the graphics on the in-game fretboard.

Here's another article that goes into a bit more detail on just the guitar:
Guitar Hero Les Paul Controller Impressions
It looks good to me, but just a little strange with the all-white faceplate. It'll look better, I think, once some of the removable faceplates are shown - hopefully with the pickups and the pickguard and all that stuff - that it'll look a lot more like a typical Les Paul. Sounds to me like they've improved on the Xplorer, with the different strap knobs and button placement. I still prefer the feel of the PS2 SG controllers to the Xplorer.
Good stuff, though. The fret buttons are exactly what I was expecting--nothing radically different, just toned-down a bit to be a little less cartoony-looking. Wireless built-in, detachable neck, optional strap knobs, removable faceplates. . . Lots of good changes they've made, in my opinion. Just hope it feels right.
And on the compatibility with GHII:

First of all, the wireless Xbox 360 controller will work with Guitar Hero II. The wired controller, if you have one already, will work with Guitar Hero III. Don't worry about being forced to double dip.

Not too shabby. I don't know if I'll pick one up. I guess it depends on my disposable income at the time.
As far as the videos, everything looks about the same, which is good. THey did mention that the timing was tweaked a little bit, and the HUD is different. The HUD changes don't really bother me, since I don't look at those very often, but hopefully the timing issue is either due to the reviewer sucking, some HD lag, or something they haven't tweaked yet.

The guitar looks pretty cool to me, especially if they have some cool faceplates. Hopefully they'll have some kiosks setup with the new guitar that I can try before it comes out. I'll probably pick up the wireless guitar if it feels right. Probably won't bother buying an extra guitar this time. My friends can use the wired one.

As for the videos, I hate, hate, HATE the changes they made (with the exception of the streak counter) mainly because it seems a lot harder to quickly convey the information to the user which is important because you can't take your eyes off the note board for more than a split second usually. However, I'm not too worried as my guess is this is an early design and lots of changes will be made to the interface before it ships. As to the "timing issues" I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a crappy guy playing. I do like the missed note sounds a lot better than GH2 though.

Love the new guitar!
I just hope they keep the neck thin like the Xplorer one.

I'm pretty happy with all the new info that came out. The new guitar design is pretty nice and I might get it so that I can have a wireless controller. Then again I may be cheap and just get the game.
I am never going to attempt expert mode and even hard mode is a slow process for me so I welcome new games to rock out with.

Some new informatio has been released, including two new songs and a nice little blub about the Living Colour song.
The Living Colour song, Cult of Personality, is a track that people have been wanting in Guitar Hero for a long time. There was a slight hitch with it though. The master track was nowhere to be found. Instead of getting a cover, Living Colour came in and re-recorded the song just for the game. And they threw in a wicked solo that makes this song on expert just plain ridiculous.
Two new tracks are also being announced today, exclusively on IGN. They are:
Evenflow: Pearl Jam
Lay Down: Priestess
Evenflow is a much more fun song to play than the previous Pearl Jam song we've seen, Life Wasted, which was one of the 10 new tracks included on the Xbox 360 iteration of Guitar Hero II. It's also a master track, so you won't have to wonder how it will turn out other than note placement.
Lay Down is also a master track and it's one of those nice surprises that Guitar Hero games are known for. Priestess isn't a member of the rock pantheon so you might not have heard about them yet, but this metal song is a ton of fun to play. It's fairly fast and has a great riff to it. It isn't the toughest song to play, but the fast nature of it make it a nice choice for a Guitar Hero III battle.

More pearl Jam? blech...and the way I see it, an extra button would work out really good for the people that have mastered the expert level. I beat Gh 2 the day i got it on expert. Adding an extra button would up the challenge again. It wouldn't affect novice players at all because they, more than likely' would keep the 3, and 4 button configs for easy/medium. Maybe there could be a level past expert. Maybe call it 'guitarded'

You don't really need a level past expert. There are still three songs on which no one has gotten 100%, and there are a few more songs that very few people have.
Even if you wanted it harder, you wouldn't need an extra button, you would just need more songs like Trogdor, Jordan, Beast and the Harlot, Institutionalized, Hangar 18. But really, there are so few people that score that high that another level is really unnecessary.
